24.01.2022 Hey potters! We’ve made it to the half way point of our 6 week course woohoo!! Most of us are now up to the trimming stage so here are a couple of short videos demonstrating some of the tricks/tips and techniques out there - especially for beginner pots. Remember to always check the thickness of your base before you begin! Hope you find them helpful, Dani https://youtu.be/zMVDVYfXFzU... https://youtu.be/YkpWQ1vjTno In this video, Simon Leach uses a clay chuck to support & trim a small bottled/vase form. https://youtu.be/iTXkfxPbF-c

16.01.2022 Hi everyone! Just a quick note to say merry Christmas and a big thank you for all your support. I hope you all enjoyed classes and got something out of it above and beyond expectations- Dani and I really want to provide the best experience we can so it’s very rewarding to see your enthusiasm not to mention magical pieces coming out of the kiln! ANOTHER SEMESTEROF CLASSES will be in February and will be available online this Sunday at midday. GLAZING WORKSHOP- we have thought ...about the next step for some of you on your pottery journey and are going to run a 2 class workshop on a simple way to get you making your own glazes WHEEL HIRE PEOPLE- I’m offering a fire service for you guys (but still more than happy for you to go to the pugmill instead) it will be $10 per kilo for bisque and $10 per kilo for glaze firing- but remember you need to get your own glazes, check out the pugmill or walkers ceramics online, feel free to comment about some of the brands you have found Melissa Au and Pheobe, there’s Gare and Mayco and amaco and make sure they are cone 5/6 if you go down that path or you could do the glaze workshop and use those glazes if we make any good ones Thanks again ! I had to stop myself sending pictures because I didn’t want to spoil the surprise 6-8:30pm on Friday and a beer after at the wheaty for anybody that’s keen. Or Sunday during the day :)
07.01.2022 Great first week guys! As promised Ill be putting some how to throw clips up. There's alot of different styles and techniques out there which can be frustrating when you are looking for 'the answer.' You just have to watch different potters do different things and find the common threads between them.. Or just pick one and treat the info like gospel- If you are going to do that I would suggest someone like Simon Leach, he was a production thrower and makes alot of youtube videos. Heres one on rams horn wedging https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7946ynxwISY
07.01.2022 Heres Keith Brymer Jones making some different shapes, his centering is very similar to what Dani and myself have been showing you and the volcano step (Collaring in) but then he uses his knuckle to pull up the wall if anyone wants to try that its pretty common https://www.claycraft.co.uk/gall/keith-brymer-jones-videos/
04.01.2022 POTTERY PICKUP: Hi Everyone! all the pots are done woohoo. Pick up times- Friday night (5pm to 9pm) Saturday morning 10am to 11am or Sunday afternoon 2pm until 9pm. Hope you can all make it let me know if you can't :)
03.01.2022 Hi Everyone! Classes are about to kick off so one final reminder to bring a towel or apron, clothes that can get dirty and an extra layer as the studio is a big open space and can get a bit fresh. Cant wait to see you all there, follow the 'Es Ceramics Class Page' on Facebook and feel free to ask questions or post there.... COVID: Dani and myself have read government guidelines in relation to Covid and we have a plan available to view. If you are feeling sick please dont come, we can make it up another time no problems. The studio is already well within standards; the wheels have plenty of space between them etc. The two changes for those returning students is the teacher will now collect all the tools in one bucket and use a small amount of disinfectant rather than students cleaning their own tools and we will have 5 people at the large wedging bench and 3 on the smaller one so please keep that in mind. Dani or myself will be instructing this anyway. See you all there! Shane
03.01.2022 CLASS UPDATE: I’m just doing a few alterations to the studio that I’m super excited about but has also made it hard for me to put a date on when classes will start again- I’m still looking at mid to late September and will know more by the end of next week. All the class firings from last semester will be complete also by the end of next week should we say next weekend for pickup of your pieces? They are looking great.. the studio may be in absolute shambles so sorry about that but I’ve had a lot of eagermessages from students so thought I better get it done quick haha!
02.01.2022 First firing down a few more to go- I just had a sneaky peek inside the kiln and it’s looking perfect
01.01.2022 Just for all that are unaware- 'The Great Pottery Throwdown' is a BBC series about pottery and is amazzzzzing haha. Get on it !
01.01.2022 Just another reminder that classes for feb are online now - glaze workshop still to come
