12.01.2022 MARY MEETS MOHAMMAD SCREENS AT DEVONPORTs CMAX CINEMA ON THE 5TH SEP with FILMMAKER Q & A & thru to SEP 11th. This story follows the opening of Tasmanias first detention centre and local knitting club member Mary, a staunchly Christian pensioner, who is not welcoming of the 400 male asylum seekers mostly from Afghanistan. Mohammad is a 26 year old Muslim asylum detained inside the centre and an unlikely friendship develops between Mary and Mohammad after her knitting club ...donates woollen beanies to the asylum seekers. Mary finds many of her prior beliefs are challenged as her relationship with Mohammad deepens. Book asap for opening night .all Tas opening weeks in cinema have sold out. One of four finalists in the national Outstanding Documentary Talent Award 2013 at the Australian International Documentary Conference. AIDC Director Joost den Hartog praised Mary Meets Mohammad for its beautiful filmmaking technique, with perfect structuring from start to end, "like a James Bond movie." Hes not wrong - its a powerful story gently told that sucks you in, in a "what happens next?" kind of way. Excerpt from SCREEN HUB Movie Review by Kate Rogers. "Miss this ... and you are mad. Certifiably so. Its a stunner. The most beautiful story. So evocative, so powerful. So utterly, fully, human. The story of Mary Meeting Mohammad." Lindsay Tuffin - Tasmanian Times.
