Mawsynram is a village in northeastern India that gets 467 inches of rainfall per year making it the world record holder of the World's Wettest Place on Earth. To give you perspective on what this looks like, roofs are buffered with grass to prevent the noise of rainfall, schools have rain days as opposed to snow days, and sometimes the rain is so strong that you cannot even see your feet in front of you! Oh, and should you leave your window open a CLOUD may just make its way INSIDE your house! Unfortunately, this means that they lack a forest canopy and that soil erosion is a thing. Most locals will cultivate potatoes and turnips from indoors. And despite getting so much rain, after monsoon season they do grapple with drought. In 2010, locals decided to take charge and lead a tree planting initiative to help solve this issue.
