22.01.2022 Treasury has also now advised that only one partner in a partnership can be nominated to receive the JobKeeper payments. Likewise, where beneficiaries of a trust only receive distributions, rather than being paid salary and wages for work done, one individual beneficiary can be nominated to receive the JobKeeper payment. Eligible businesses will also only be allowed to nominate one director to receive the payment and that individual may not receive the payment as an employee.... Further, an eligible business that pays shareholders that provide labour in the form of dividends will only be able to nominate one shareholder to receive the JobKeeper payment. 22.01.2022 You buy a new car, you use it for business so you can claim all the GST right?? WRONG!!!! This area is the biggest area of error for those completing their own BASs and also something that people know very little about. There is a limit to which you can claim GST and Depreciation on a motor vehicle. For 2016/2017 this amount is $57,581. So if your purchase price exceeds this amount you can only claim $5,234 of the GST amount and when it comes to depreciation you can only de...preciate to $57,581. The balance you do not claim a tax deduction for!! There are some exemptions to this rule so speak with us if you would like further information. You also need to consider your business usage in amongst all of this. Do you use the vehicle 100% for business, what adjustment needs to be made to your GST for non business usage. 04.01.2022 Many Uber drivers have never had to be a small business before. Many wont know what they have to do to stay legally compliant and able to keep taking fares for years to come. THEY HAVE TO REGISTER FOR GST Because Uber drivers are taxi drivers now, they have to register for GST no matter what their annual turnover is. That means they have to collect 10% GST on all fares they offer. That in turn means the 10% comes out of their cut from Uber, not Ubers share of the fare is ...this fair? Regardless, its their lot now. THEY HAVE A BAS TO KEEP NOW Uber drivers need to chart where and when GST is paid. They need to communicate and net off their GST liability on a quarterly BAS. Most Ubers wont have ever lodged a BAS before its not something you can just pick up and do right away. You can help with this. Esha Denkha & Associates
