12.01.2022 Ransomware advice. The best way to safeguard yourself from data loss is to have a good backup solution. My backup tips. 1. Backup regularly. Set up an automated backup. 2. If you back up to a USB hard drive, buy a secondary device and alternate between the two. One of the reasons we backup is because drives fail therefore so too can your backup drive. 3. If you backup once a week, disconnect the backup when not in use. A virus cannot infect a drive that is not connected .... Stay safe while surfing. Next post will be about the NBN.

11.01.2022 Do you need to enable your workers to work from home? With the current situation we are facing with this dreaded virus, more and more businesses are needing to let users work from home and connect back to the office. There are two ways to enable remote access; An easy unsafe way, or a proper safe way.... Don't open up your systems to desperate hackers who will be even more active during these tough times, trying to get to your money. If you are connecting to your work computer by simply clicking an icon that looks like a small computer screen, then you run a risk. Contact us via email at [email protected] and we will contact you to discuss how easy it is to do properly.

11.01.2022 Troubleshooting your FTTN NBN or ADSL connection. The current situation is putting a lot of stress on both the NBN service and all of the 4G networks. You are not alone if you are having connection problems. To make things worse, the call centres that offer tech support are probably all in lockdown too so we have a double whammy here. If your internet drops out, the first thing you need to check is the status of your xDSL link LED light. Google your router model and find out ...which one it is. It may be a sign only or it may say Link, DSL, ADSL, xDSL. In most cases, when this LED is blinking or is a different colour, it means it is trying to talk to the device at the local exchange (called a DSLAM) so that they can negotiate a stable connection. Whilst the LED is blinking, you won't have internet. Once your router and the DSLAM connect to each other, the LED will either go solid green instead of blinking or change to a green colour. This means the internet is on. If it keeps blinking, there is a problem somewhere beyond your router and no number of reboots will fix it. It will require an NBN engineer.... but since you cannot talk to a tech support person, you are stuck in a conundrum. Hope this helps a little. Stay safe people.

08.01.2022 Apple Macbook Repairs. If anyone owns a 2011 - 2012 Macbook Pro model A1286, A1297 or A1398 which has graphic display problems and you have been told that they cannot be repaired and you may as well throw them away....... Incorrect.. I just had my A1286 15" Macbook Pro repaired. I am happy to promote this persons business because she does an amazing job. www.it-tech.com.au... As for Frances and tell her that Chris from ESI in Sydney said hi. Cheers :)

07.01.2022 Attention Business Owners: We are in for a hot summer if the last few days are anything to go by. Computers don't like heat. Here is my suggestion; If you have a server which doesn't run your email (Exchange) and won't be getting used during the Chrissy break, then unless you have a dedicated air-conditioned server room; turn it off until you come back. Obviously run this past your IT person first but I can guarantee that unless you have your server(s) in an air-conditioned... room, they will get dangerously hot. Merry Christmas everyone and a Happy New Year.

07.01.2022 Smeaton Grange businesses... the NBN is coming soon !! I know this because the calls from telco companies have begun. All the "we can install a brand new phone system that is NBN ready for only XYZ $$$$". Here are two things to think about.... You know how you hear so many stories about how bad the NBN can be!! They are not lies... The NBN is not a business grade product. There are other options. All it takes is a phone call to us and we can run a service availability check ...on your address and tell you exactly what options you have available. The other thing to think about is this.. We can get you a VoIP telephone system that will cost you $29.95 per user/line per month and that will include local, national & mobile calls !! Bundle your services together and you will have a business grade internet connection AND a modern feature rich phone system. Here is a teaser: Fibre1000 for $799 per month !! Yes that is 1gbps both ways, unlimited !! Check out our webpage or call us for chat !!

03.01.2022 Office 365 Login issue. If you are experiencing problems with your O365 emails and applications where the password prompt pops up, it is not a password problem. Microsoft are currently having authentication problems and are working on it. If your Outlook is currently working, DO NOT CLOSE IT !! Whilst it is working, you won't have a problem unless you close it and try to re-open it.... Keep an eye on this page for updates: https://status.office365.com/

01.01.2022 NBN - My thoughts... Hands up those who are blown away by the performance of their new NBN connection !!! For those lucky thousands, the remaining millions of us are happy for you. We have all seen the add where we are told that we have all of these choices and all we need to do is sign up with our prefered service provider, tell them what speed and download limit we want and presto !!... Next time you see the add, pay attention to writing on the bottom and listen out for those "conditional" bits that have a massive impact on the reality of your new NBN connection. If you are going to receive Fibre to the Node (FTTN), which is what the majority of us will be getting, then let me explain what it is as you need to understand this in order to have a realistic expectation. FTTN is a technology where a Fibre connection is made between a node in your suburb/estate (you know the green Telstra boxes you see around) and your main telephone exchange. The Node is then upgraded from supporting ADSL to VHDSL. You then receive your new router from your NBN service provider and bingo !! your are now on the NBN. I am glad you asked !! Yes, your "new" service is being delivered to you using the same "old" copper wires that once delivered your "old" service... The same copper wires that play up when it rains because the pits fill up with water and cause interference on the line. The same copper wires that in most old suburbs have been in the ground for a century. The new VHDSL (ADSL with a turbo charger) uses the same copper wires as ADSL did so what you need to know is that your distance to the node has a huge impact on what you can get.. NOT what you would like.. This is a key point. Just like ADSL had limitations, so does VHDSL. You may want 100mbps (like I did) but the reality is that it all depends on your distance from the node, the quality of the copper wires in the ground and your cabling inside the home/business. I can only get about 23 theoretical mbps, but on most days I get about 12mbps (www.speedtest.net). My old ADSL service gave me about 6mbps so I have doubled my speed but it is far from the "Wow, I can get 100mbps" that I was expecting. To highlight my point, friends of ours who live in the same estate but probably 800m closer to the node get about 30mbps. So my advice is, before you sign up on a big two year deal with 100mbps and a gazillion Tbs of download, ring your prefered service provider and ask them what is the best speed that your line can handle and then pick the best suited plan. I think this far better than later arguing with them that you wanted 100 and only getting 12... Happy downloading..

01.01.2022 If you get a call from Telstra. Just a warning for everyone out there. Please pass this onto all your friends. If you receive a call from Telstra telling you that your computer is infected or has a virus or a trojan or anything like that, and they tell you that they are going to fix it for you.... HANG UP on them. It is 100% scam. None of the Internet providers in Australia offer to fix a users computer.... It is a scam so do not give them access to your computer. Hope this helps someone. Chris.

01.01.2022 Are your users looking like our new page photo every morning when they start their computers? Maybe you need to give us a call before your customers start calling you.
