24.01.2022 We received a detailed review of our last program ................................ It is quite difficult for me, and I would argue for most, to go to an event on a Saturday night, unless it is entertaining or has good food or some sort of material benefit upon attendance. But Essense Melbourne's programmes are not known for delighting you in the gastronomy department. Nor are their amusing. Not unless you are interested in truth seeking occasionally.... Programmes conducted by Essense Melbourne are usually in Malayalam and therefore exclusive. So it was with great expectations that I attended the Ayurveda vs Modern medicine debate at the Chambly Hall in Camberwell on the 16th of November 2019. The debate kicked off almost half an hour late due to technical issues. Moderated by Jomesh James a thought provoking dialogue followed. Dr. Prasannan did a great job of presenting his perspective first. Even with an abundance of technical jargon, I was able to grasp many of the concepts put forward towards the motion that modern medicine was the one sensible choice. His statements were mostly factual or claimed to be since they were backed by research. This was followed by the Ayurvedic proponent's not so technical( unless you want to consider a few utterances in Sanskrit technical) but from the bottom of his heart statements. He made it clear that Ayurveda did not have the answers but needed more funding for research and integration of it's ideas into mainstream medicine. It felt like a plea to bear with Ayurveda's shortcomings while the modern world and it's research methodologies finally figured out how ancient wisdom had most of the answers waiting to be interpreted. Dr. Prasannan's rebuttals were again simple enough pointing out the lack of research. Dr. Suresh pointed out how Ayurveda had stood the test of time and will claim it's "rightful place" once again. A lively audience round saw most queries directed towards Dr. Kumar, as if unconvinced by his statements. A question directed towards Dr. Prasannan we how he would explain how Ayurveda stood the test of time surviving for thousands of years. It was an easy answer for him. So easy be seemed to crack into a joke answering it. I was reminded of the pyramids which stood the test of time. Magnificent structures. But, I am thankful I don't live or work in buildings built using the same methods. Talk about time jolted me back into practical world and I left three hours after the debate kicked off.
