24.01.2022 A TENS machine is a non-pharmacological form of pain relief that consists of a unit that which sends mild electrical impulses through to 4 pads that you stick on your lower back. It takes advantage of a physiological phenomenon called the gate control theory of pain. The idea is that non painful sensations (like the buzzing of a TENS machine) can interfere with painful sensations (like back labour) and so if you buzz your TENS machine when you are having a contraction, your... brain will focus on that sensation rather than on the intensity of the contraction. It is also thought that TENS machines actually help you produce extra endorphins. And many women like using a TENS machine as they find that it gives them a sense of control and something to focus on. You can use it at throughout labour, at home, at the hospital, for an induction...it can't be used in the water but other than that, you can use it whenever and wherever you want! Did you use a TENS machine during birth? How did you find it? . . . 23.01.2022 One of my favourite things when supporting women and couples as a Doula at their birth, is meeting with them again after their birth to debrief their experience. This Mumma is amazing and totally rocked her vbac! She feels she made informed decisions that helped her to have the best possible birthing experience. It was truly my pleasure to be there for her and welcome this gorgeous not-so-little bubba into the world . . . #birth #birthdebrief #birthdiscussion #vbac #doula #vbacdoula #birthdoula #postpartum #postpartumdoula #postnatal #feelgreat #bigbaby #sydneydoula #doulainsydney #birthsupport #informeddecisions #informeddecisionmaking #positivebirth #mumma #gomumma

19.01.2022 Very interesting. Researchers found: All 120 babies were negative for coronavirus at birth when tested using nasal swabs. 82 were checked again a week later and all were negative. Most of these babies (68) had shared a room with their mothers and more than three-quarters were being breastfed.... 72 babies were tested a fortnight after birth and found to be negative. 13.01.2022 Cosleeping and more specifically bedsharing is often frowned upon, discussed in hushed tones at coffee groups and not mentioned to health professionals for fear... of being lectured or told off. 13.01.2022 Did you know there are so many layers to get to our babies? What is the role of a Doula in a Caesarean Birth? It's still very important and here is why... The spirit of Doula support encompasses mothering the mother. Not only will your doula prepare you for the sights, the policies & the procedures of this kind of birth, whether elective or emergency, but she remembers this is happening to you & you still need loving attention. ... A C-Section birth takes place in theatre, but a doula has introduced you prenatally to the idea of a Gentle Caesarean. Mum and Dad May have asked their caregivers to incorporate some personal wishes because of this. Sometimes your doula is right there with you, letting you know whats going on at each step. Other times, Dad is by the woman's side to welcome your child into the world. While you're in recovery for 1-2 hours, your baby (usually) is with dad & your doula is there to help him. Breastfeeding support can start as soon as you are back. Your doula will help you find comfortable ways to hold your baby. Postnataly, mumma still needs that support around the home, someone to share her birth story & often times flip through pictures that you asked your doula to take. Whether you have planned your #Caesarean or it is chosen during the course of labour, your #doula helps you plan for the possibility & above all remembers that this is the day you welcome your baby into this world. She remembers that it is special & you need her love & support. . #Repost @the.birth.space & @jade_andher_babes #birthdoula #sydneydoula #cesareansupport #askmehow #getintouch #linkinbio www.essentialme.com.au #hereforyou #pregnant2020 #pregnant2021 #due2020 #due2021 #birthsupport #birthteam #birthsupportteam #evenwithcovid See more

11.01.2022 It's National Rainbow Baby Day! A Rainbow Baby is a child born to a family who have previously lost a child due to #miscarriage, #stillbirth or #death during infancy. These subsequent pregnancies can bring "strong feelings of anxiety, guilt, and even fear" but also "immense joy, reflection, healing, and mixed emotions". The term "rainbow" is symbolic of the hope brought by the child after the storm of the previous #loss.... This special celebration is a way for mothers across the country to share their experiences, grieve, reflect, and most importantly, celebrate the joy and love for their beautiful Rainbow Babies. 11.01.2022 If you're pregnant and having a hospital birth COVID19 does not give providers permission to strip you of your rights. 1. You do NOT have to be tested. Period.... You don't have to explain why, and you don't need any kind of excuse. 2. They CANNOT take your baby from you if you refuse to be tested. 3. They CANNOT take your baby if you test positive for COVID. *Both the WHO & RCOG strongly recommend keeping mother and baby together, even if mom tests positively. You can show this resource to your provider if they say otherwise: WHO- https://www.who.int//clinical-management-of-severe-acute-r RCOG- https://www.rcog.org.uk//covid-19-virus-infection-and-pr/ 4. There is NO known medical reason to stop breastfeeding if you test positive. Current research shows no evidence of the illness being transmitted via breast milk. Breast milk does however have valuable antibodies to build your baby's immune system. If you planned to breastfeed, it is still recommended by the WHO. WHO link about COVID & breast feeding- https://www.who.int//com/detail/breastfeeding-and-covid-19 CDC link about COVID & breast feeding- https://www.cdc.gov//need-ex/pregnancy-breastfeeding.html 5. They CANNOT make you wear a mask while laboring/pushing. You can voice that you are uncomfortable, and take it off. YOU get to decide what you consent to, COVID does not change that. https://evidencebasedbirth.com/covid19/ This has A TON of evidence based links and info. 11.01.2022 Another beautiful google review written by an amazing birthing doula client. While their birth certainly didnt go to plan, with a long labour and a baby in a posterior and asynclitic head position, we tried every tool and trick in my kit, and both mum and her partner were able to look back and say we gave everything a go, and tried our best, and this was a necessary cesarean. I strive to work with couples to ensure they look back without regret. In this way, no matter what... happens, birth will be the most positive and empowered experience it can possibly be. . 07.01.2022 Review just received today on google Amanda recently supported me through the birth of my first child in December. It is without hesitation that I say she was imperative to my journey and birthing experience in that she filled a human requirement not offered by my hospital of midwifery group. Her nurturing support through my natural, physiological birth was crucial to my mental and physical well being. I kept thinking how even if she coached my partner on the... ins and outs of her role in the labour suite, there is no way he would have been able to do what she did! Will most definitely be seeing her at the next birth. x . . . #googlereview #clientreview #review #testimonial #clienttestimonial #fivestars #5stars #doula #birthdoula #birthsupport #sydneydoula #sydneybirthdoula See more

03.01.2022 This outcome of #mum reflecting that she wouldnt change a thing, to feel empowered and confident, is what motivates me to be the #Doula I am. . #googlereview I started talking to Amanda to be our doula for the birth of my second child and straight away I felt safe and supported. I can not rave enough about how positive (and different) the birth of my second baby was and in large part that was having Amandas help and guidance. I would not do anything different with the p...regnancy and delivery. She made me feel secure I had a person I could share my pregnancy and postnatal concerns with. She was such an asset during the birth. My husband loved having the support person to call and while he was with the baby she was able to support me in procedures after birth. I felt that she was part of my team and I had the best type of cheerleader. She was a wonderful person to debrief with postnatally and gave me beautiful perspective into my birth that I am very grateful for. She gave me different ideas and information and let me make my own decisions about what I felt comfortable with and I never felt that I was being pressured or told. She helped me feel empowered and confident and making the right decisions for me at the time. For all parts of my pregnancy, birth and postnatal journey she cared for me and my family in a holistic way and I would recommend her greatly. . . . #googlereviews #review #clientreview #testimonial #clienttestimonial #appreciation #birthdoula #birthdoulas #birthdoulasydney #sydneydoula #doulasydney #honoured #motivated #confident #empowered #empoweredwomen #betterbirth See more

02.01.2022 Google 5 review left today This Mum approached her challenging, somewhat unexpected delivery with such determination and poise, and should be so proud of herself! She and her partner are such an awesome team and it was wonderful to be able to be there for them in any way I could. . I reached out to Amanda to come along the birthing journey so my partner and I could feel confident that we were receiving the guidance and information (plus a kind, no nonsense approach)... we wanted as first time parents. Every step of the way, Amanda supported us well and truly beyond our expectations. We were curious about homebirth, and landed on the decision to move forward with it with help and consultation with Amanda, and her experience in supporting other homebirths. But when our baby decided she was too cosy in there and I was induced at 42 weeks, Amanda effortlessly transitioned her part in the birth plan we had for homebirth to hospital birth. She also provided a truly appreciated sounding board when I had a challenging, somewhat unexpected delivery. The advocacy and 101 tips, tricks and encouragement she offered both myself and my partner during labour will stick with me forever. She truly lives and breathes her passion for supported birth.
