23.01.2022 From the President: Essendon Vets Cricket Club has introduced additional COVID 19 protocols to be conducted prior to all our training sessions .... mandatory rectal temperature checks. We are considering similar protocols for all home games next season .... every player from the visiting team will be required to undergo temperature checks before each game. The checks will be performed by Essendon Vets Cricket Club accredited COVID 19 Testing Officer, Billy Wigmore ..... Bill...y is a Vietnam Veteran .... that is where he became proficient and experienced in this type of procedure. Attached is a photo of Billy testing our club captain Les Quarrell at training this morning, Les is leading by example. We are very proud of Les .... he is so diligent and conscientious ..... he returned 5 times for testing this morning ..... it would have been 6 except the thermometer broke. See more

Due to our age profile, we must promote extreme care with and how our games are implemented. By their nature and format, our games cluster players from all over the state and particu...Continue reading

10.01.2022 Great documentary "Onward to Victory" featured an interview with Greg Quinn who is well known to Essendon VCC members as Greg has played with us at a number of carnivals in Echuca. Greg is also SA and Australian Over 60 captain. Gregs father Bob Quinn is a Port Adelaide legend and is regarded as probably Ports best ever player. Not sure if it is still available, but it screened on FoxFooty on Mon 18 May 20.

10.01.2022 We welcomed 2 new players to the round one fixture against Endeavour Hills last Sunday. Michael Goldsmith quickly showed he will be one of the sharpest bowlers in this years comp. He returned the tidy figures of 8/2/1/21. Peter McDonald is an all rounder who will be a considerable asset to the team. Great to have them both on board.

09.01.2022 Vale Peter McDonald. It is with profound sadness we advise of the passing of our esteemed colleague Peter McDonald. Peters friendship, enthusiasm, playing ability and embracement of the club will be sorely missed by all at Essendon. Sincere condolences to the McDonald family.

09.01.2022 Back to Back Premierships for Supplements Les Quarrell reports on Echuca: On completion of another majestical over 60 cricket carnival week held in Echuca the Supplements have come away with very hard fought grand final win against Geelong. The week started last Sunday and both the Supplements and Geelong had very good wins all through and both reached the final undefeated. Our week started with a win over Tassie, Sth East Coasters (SA/ Mt Gambier) and the ACT and the Ca...ts defeated Gippsland, Warrandyte & Vic/Country. This competition is a participation one where bats have to retire at 25 and bowlers only allowed 6 overs. Round 1- Supps 2/115 Burt 26*, Quinn 25* Quarrell 22*, Haley 15, Tas 110 Quarrell 4/10, Wigmore 2/22. Round 2- SEC 88, Boyce 2/15, McDonald 2/13, Supps 5/89 McDonald 25*, Stokes 14, Quinn 14, Round 3 Supps 7/148 McDonald 25* Quarrell 25* Quinn 17, Wilson 17, ACT 109 Watsford 4/16, McDonald 2/10. Echuca at this time of year is a great place to be and I suggest the 19 over 60 teams up there had a great time, meet & greet, dinner (Trot meeting at Echuca) and plenty of other things to do on the rest day. Over 60 cricket is now on hold (Time to get the bodies right), until carnivals in Mackay in August and the National Champs in November. See more
