10.01.2022 Question 1: neither needed surgery Question 2: Get your mind out of the gutter In the context of disc bulge size does not matter, symptoms do. Both of these patients sort help from a Physiotherapist, and both have responded well. ... Research has demonstrated 1 People that have no pain also have disc bulges, protusions and joint degeneration on imaging. These findings are common, and unless it matches your symptoms it is unlikely the cause. It is important to be aware that imaging is only a small part of the puzzle. A good therapist will treat the person, not the image. 2 Surgery isn't all that helpful for back pain alone. HOWEVER It can be effective for treating people who have leg pain, weakness and loss of sensation that has not improved with conservative management.
