24.01.2022 "In 2020, we marked one of the most difficult years for our profession" NSW Nurses and Midwives' Association General Secretary Brett Holmes shares his thanks for the tireless commitment of members through what has been a challenging year.

24.01.2022 "The federal-led aged care response is little more than window dressing" Experts have panned the Federal Government's Aged Care response for not taking on board the lessons of the past. Our elderly residents deserve more than the lip service they are currently being given. Via @7NEWS Melbourne

23.01.2022 "You hope you never have to use it, but it's always there behind you to back you up". Nurse Chris was involved in a motorcycle accident on the way to work, and had to have his leg amputated. Thankfully, he was an NSW Nurses and Midwives' Association member, and thanks to our Journey Accident Insurance, he was able to recoup $100,000 to assist with his recovery. It's so important to be a member of your association You can join here today: https://www.nswnma.asn.au/nswnmamembers/benefits/

19.01.2022 Through COVID-19, your NSW Nurses and Midwives' Association has been busy delivering accurate, up to date information for our members across the state, in all sectors.

19.01.2022 There are so many questions that need to be answered about the crisis in aged care, and so many issues that need to be addressed. So why is Aged Care Minister @Richard Colbeck running away from his responsibilities?

18.01.2022 WE'VE WON the SafeWork NSW Award for "Outstanding work health and safety support to members in the changed working environment due to COVID-19"! It's exceptional recognition of the work and effort that both Association members and staff have undertaken through this pandemic. It's clear that together, we can win safer workplaces for all nurses and midwives. If you've got a safety issue at work, make sure you get in contact with us ASAP: https://www.nswnma.asn.au/about-us/contact/

16.01.2022 "Aged care workers don't need to be told they're heroes. They need practical recognition of the value of their work." The Aged Care Royal Commission's lawyers submit that aged care workers need their work valued & respected with better working conditions, better wages and safe staffing. 15.01.2022 "Aged Care workers are at their wits end" The aged care sector has been in crisis for years, yet the Federal Government has refused to act. Unions have released our plan of action - now it's time for the Morrison Government to act to protect our vulnerable elderly. 14.01.2022 Unions are setting the agenda in a space where Government and corporations have failed to protect our most vulnerable.

13.01.2022 Hi Estia nurses, here is a recent Aged Care update from Helen.

13.01.2022 As we mark Senior Citizens' Day, we continue our campaign for More Staff For Aged Care. Every elderly person deserves safe quality care - and we can only provide that through safe staffing and proper skills mixes in the sector.

13.01.2022 Nurses and midwives have seen the worst of violence and PPE issues this past year. We'll continue to work hard to ensure your safety - both in and outside of work.

13.01.2022 What is Aged Care Minister Richard Colbeck trying to run away from? Is it responsibility over a failing sector? Is it the thousands of aged care residents and staff suffering under his ledership? Or is it the over 350 deaths in aged care that have happened under his watch? Via 7.30

11.01.2022 "The Government has known about this for a very long time, and it is completely unsurprising to anyone who's been paying a modicum of attention to the sector". Aged Care advocate Sarah Holland-Batt tells it like it is. Aged Care is a sector in crisis, and the Morrison Government's neglect of our vulnerable elderly deserves to be called out for what it is - neglect. Via 7.30

11.01.2022 Minister Richard Colbeck, we'd like you to know that NEGLECT isn't one of the "functions" of aged care. We care deeply for our residents, and your defeatist rhetoric flies in the face of the incredibly hard work that we do. Minister, we don't need your words or condescension - we need staff-to-resident ratios, adequate PPE, and transparency in funding for the sector. These are "functions" of Government - the Government that you are part of.

09.01.2022 Your NSWNMA is holding of free live webinars throughout August and September. For more information on topics, dates and times, please click here https://bit.ly/3ir3FDK.

07.01.2022 "Would you want your loved ones to be in Senator Colbeck's care?" If you knew that Aged Care Minister Richard Colbeck was responsible of the shambolic state of aged care through COVID-19, the mass opaque cash handouts to aged care operators, and the deaths of over 350 elderly Australians, would you still want your loved ones to be in his care? What do you reckon?

06.01.2022 This is Aged Care Minister Richard Colbeck Yes, the Minister who was in charge of Australia's woefully inadequate COVID-19 response in Aged Care. The same minister who couldn't remember the number of deaths in aged care facilities through this pandemic. The Aged Care Minister who is responsible for over 350 resident deaths in Aged Care due to COVID-19.... When he was faced with questions and criticism over the state of aged care during this pandemic, this was his response - to walk out on the most vulnerable people in Australia, and the nurses and workers who care for them. It's just not good enough.

03.01.2022 Problems in the aged care sector were rife before the pandemic but now we need support more than ever. The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation's recommendations for immediate action are: 1 Stop any further cuts to nursing and care 2 Additional staffing with the right skills 3 Sufficient Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)... 4 Paid pandemic leave 5 Accountability/transparency for Government-funding See more

03.01.2022 The Morrison Government's own medical experts know that stronger action would have prevented the spread of COVID-19 in aged care facilities - yet they FAILED to act. DEMAND action in aged care now, and help protect our vulnerable elderly: www.megaphone.org.au/petitio/we-demand-action-for-aged-care

02.01.2022 Thanks Estia nurses for participating #EndCOVIDForAll
