15.01.2022 I had a client in the other week who’s skin went cystic after she’d been seeing me for her acne vulgaris for 3 months... She was feeling a little disappointed as we had made some really great progress with her skin over this timeframe. She and I in the earlier couple of months had been so excited as we could really see her skin improving in texture by becoming more plump and hydrated. This allowed her oil to secrete easily and therefore, ...those lumps and bumps were starting to shift. This was a huge testament to her commitment of using her Montaser skincare system and monthly Express Facial appointments. She was following the advice I was suggesting to a Tee, internal support too! Yes!!! But for some reason on her 3rd facial appointment with me, I could clearly see that the P acne bacteria had spread very quickly which caused her skin to become really red and aggravated, sensitive and really sore to touch. When this happens, big pustular nodules form deep within the pore and if the bacteria goes deep enough it will disrupt the skin integrity within the dermis (thanks inflammation) making it permanently weak and exposed to free radicals. In other words, if her skin continued to stay like this, she would end up with acne scarring, just like I did. That’s not happening on my watch So I suggested that she go to her GP and ask for a course of antibiotics. The reason I suggested this instead of leaving her skin as is, was because we needed that bacteria to heal FAST and antibiotics are so good at doing this quickly. Treating skin holistically means that when I serve my clients, they get the best and most necessary care for the mind, body and soul. Sometimes this means we need extra help from the medical profession so we get our skin back on track again. As I explained to my client, this is just a little bump in the road to recovery. It’s kind of like being a recovering alcoholic and having that one alcoholic drink again which affects your results of staying clean. Our skin can slip up as well, after all, it is recovering right? The important thing to remember is to reach out to your support team as you go through it, so that you get the help and advice when you can’t see past it. Having a skin therapist by your side who understands acne is vital to your skin healing success and I am always here for you no matter where you are in your journey
