It is fantastic and refreshing to see the correct information about the teaching of reading being distributed by a university team. If only more institutions would follow suit. 15.01.2022 This graphic from Lindsay Braman got me thinking. Am I asking too many pointed questions of my students? Learning to read is a long journey and my students are going to be with me for some time. I’m working to improve the way I ask questions of my students so that I can lessen their anxiety. It is always great to think about things from a new perspective.

10.01.2022 I’m super excited to be registered for Literacy Nest’s online conference starting next week. It’ll be amazing to hear and learn from such an experienced line-up of specialists and contributors.

08.01.2022 These past couple of weeks I’ve been keeping up with The Literacy Nest summer conference. The Literacy Nest is a blog and website run by Emily Gibbons, dyslexia practitioner in the U.S. Emily has organised this online conference, bringing together experts in dyslexia. One of the presenters, Nancy Duggan, has given an introduction to the field of Meta-cognition which has made interesting watching. Meta-cognition means Thinking about how we think. As a tutor, modelling my own... thinking processes as well as applying my own meta-cognition is an important component of my teaching. It’s important for all learners to think about the way they’re learning. It helps them build self-efficacy and independent learning. Thanks to Nancy for this lecture. It has sparked an interest in this field for me and I look forward to continuing to broaden my own knowledge around meta-cognition.
