24.01.2022 Plenty of progress with Oracle 17050. The fret ends have been bevelled and the initial neck profile cut is made. The control holes have been drilled in the body along with the jack cavity. I spent a bit of time this week making a neck pocket jig - basically allows for a fairly straight forward setup for the neck pocket rout. Probably the scariest stage of the build - get the neck pocket wrong and you've blown the guitar body! End result is this is starting to look like a guitar now and the neck is bang on alignment :-)

23.01.2022 EG 20065 just rolled off the bench. My first attempt at a Tele style. Awesome spanky tones. Slim taper. set neck, 12" radius, 22 frets, Blackwood top and Alder body, 3 piece neck, Baked Maple FB. Understated hardware with wood full of bling. Check it out here: https://www.etherealguitars.com.au/20065-tele

22.01.2022 While I'm on a roll. Finished this one a couple of months back. An Australian timber theme here with Tasmanian Blackwood top, headplate and neck outer sides. Jarrah fretboard and neck centre. Mahogany body. Lollar P90 pickups. Much to like. For anyone questioning the integrity of Jarrah as a tonewood - question no longer. Just select the right, quartersawn light weight stock and it rings like a bell. This guitar is full of bite and treble - tone controls are there to adjust to taste. Some guitars lack treble and the tone control only goes to 10 - for me this is the ultimate - tone on 10 = treble on 10!

22.01.2022 My favourite and least favourite stages of a guitar build. Sanding - messy, dusty, time consuming and labour intensive. Applying first coat of oil - bliss! It's always a treat to see just how the timber is going to present itself. I thought this Blackwood was going to be pretty special and it hasn't let me down. There will be around 10 coats of oil with fine sanding in between coats before this is ready to buff.

20.01.2022 EG 19062 was finished a little while ago. One of the last of my Brazilian Walnut bookmatched tops on a Mahogany solid body with an Indian Rosewood fretboard and laminated neck. A versatile guitar with pristine cleans and plenty of output when required. Check it out on the new EG website www.etherealguitars.com.au

20.01.2022 Oracle LP 19057. Always wanted to try a hand dyed burst. It took ages mixing up the aniline dyes and rubbing them into the sycamore top to get the right blend. I then shot about 3 coats of rattle can nitro to seal the deal. Specs on this one: one piece Mahogany solid body, one piece Mahogany neck, bookmatched Sycamore top, thick Indian Rosewood FB, Seymour Duncan Seth Lover pickups, aged Gotoh hardware. I've owned a few R series guitars and this is an authentic experience. Pretty much my number one player these days. Cheers.

18.01.2022 Introducing Oracle 19055. I've had a busy summer! First one done for 2019. Nothing more than nature at its absolute best.

17.01.2022 Further progress on the Oracle 17050 fretboard - abalone inlays glued in, fretboard radiused to 12" and polished out to 12000 grit mirror finish. Ready for fretwork now!

13.01.2022 GUITAR IS SOLD Introducing "The Oracle 17052" - Now For Sale or Trade Model: Oracle... Serial Number: 17052 Body Wood: Blackwood (weight relieved, 1 piece). Guitar weighs 3.65kgs Top Wood: Figured Queensland Maple Bookmatched Neck: 22 Fret, 25 Scale Length, Tasmanian Blackwood & Queensland Maple w/CF Rods, LMI 2 Way Truss Rod & Gold Evo Medium Fretwire Headstock Veneer Wood: QLD Maple w/052 Embossed Rosewood Truss Rod Cover Fretboard: Rare QLD Blackbean w/Gold MOP Dot Inlays Neck Carve: ‘59’ style C shape Finish Type: Buffed Antique Shellac Natural Finish Pickups: S Duncan Saturday Night Special Gold Set Electronics: CTS Push/Pull Volume Coil Tap Bridge CTS Push/Pull Volume Coil Tap Neck CTS 500k Tone Reverse Phase CTS 500k Tone Series w/Bridge Components: Gotoh Japan Bridge GE103BTG, Gotoh Japan SG301MGT Locking Tuners, Graphtec Tusq Nut, Orange Drop Tone Caps, Switchcraft Jack, Gotoh Toggle Switch Setup: Elixir Optiweb 10-46 Strings, Hardcase Price: $1,750 GST Inclusive. Will accept cash or consider TRADE proposals for quality guitars and related equipment. How does it sound? It's certainly in the Les Paul realm of tones but on the brighter side given the Blackwood body which is much denser than Mahogany. Pickups sound great - plenty of heat and sing - a nice balance between vintage and modern. The 25" scale also adds a bit more sparkle to the overall tone than a standard LP. Tone controls can always tame the sparkle but if it's not there to start with it can be impossible to add. Sustain is excellent too - has a fully extended neck tenon to the edge of the neck pickup cavity, the thin finish doesn't dampen the tone + string through = hit a chord and go and make a coffee A unique guitar such as this is rarely able to be purchased "off the shelf". Traditional custom orders can take months to complete but here is your chance to own a truly extraordinary guitar - NOW! Get in touch and we can discuss your situation.

12.01.2022 Oracle 17052 is about to land! Detailed photographs and build specs coming soon........

12.01.2022 Some progress this weekend on The Oracle. Blackwood top has been glued to the body and flush routed. I've also routed the toggle switch cavity and the cavity plate recesses - plates are done too with just a fraction still to remove so not such a tight fit.

07.01.2022 Finished this one in the past couple of days. An SG with a "mild" Viking theme. Designed to be old from new, ageing the parts is half the fun. Traditional tonewoods of Brazilian Mahogany Body (plantation), African Mahogany Neck and Indian Rosewood FB. I think this one might just be a keeper!

06.01.2022 I finished EG 20064 recently, a tip of the hat to a 1958 Gibson Firebird. A futuristic design at the time, I was fortunate enough to have one big slab of African Mahogany that allowed me to build the body from one piece! Still had to add a wing for the hockey stick though. Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates pickups, Gotoh hardware, Indian Rosewood FB and one piece Mahogany neck. Plenty of resonance in this one and great fun to play. Check out more photos at www.etherealguitars.com.au

06.01.2022 Had a bit of fun going through the archives recently and put this new webpage together. See what you think! https://www.etherealguitars.com.au/

06.01.2022 Introducing the Ethereal Guitars - Eventide Custom 24 - build 19056. Queensland Maple bookmatched top on a solid Mahogany body. 5 piece laminated neck and a Wandoo fretboard. Seymour Duncan Nazgul and Sentient pickups with a push pull coil tap pretty much covers it all. One of the most versatile guitars I have built.

03.01.2022 A sneak peak at Oracle 20060 - a 1960 inspired Les Paul with a modern 'Tiger Eye" flame maple top. More pics to come when I get some better lighting sorted out over the next few days...........

03.01.2022 Oracle SC050 is coming along with some solid progress on the neck. Fretboard has binding, is now glued and flush routed to the neck billet. Headstock is angled and routed to shape. Diamond Inlays are underway!

03.01.2022 Frets are seated. I'm using Gold EVO fretwire which is nickel free and is harder/longer lasting than standard nickel silver fretwire but not as hard as stainless. I'm using a fret press and glue method for fret installation. The glue fills the small cavities left in the fret slot and helps create an extremely solid fretboard and neck. The Gidgee Fretboard has been polished to glass standard. This wood is harder than ebony, looks amazing and is a luxury to play.
