11.01.2022 Things are crazy for us all at the moment. Being at home, isolated with your kids stuck inside (or at least within the confines of your property) can be frustrating and overwhelming. Just try to remember "you're not alone!" We are all in the same situation but with modern technology we can reach out to each other when things are getting too much. If you're finding it hard to think of things to entertain the kids try sending them outside!! Get them to collect as many nuts as t...hey can then line them up in largest to smallest, collect items from nature to make a collage, ask them to record the sounds or write down as many sounds as they can hear then label them "natural" / "man-made", or just make a nature broth! If it's raining - send them out anyway! I'll post more inspiration in the coming weeks, in the meantime take a deep breath and send them outside See more

07.01.2022 As some holidays have come to an end and others are still on break, I thought I’d just remind parents to be kind. Be kind to yourselves and your little ones. It’s important to have a routine when it comes to remote learning; have your child/ren sit in the same place at the same time (morning is best as we’re always fresher in the morning), allow them to choose what they would like to do but explain everything needs to be done so getting the ’not-so-fun’ stuff out of the way f...irst might help. Don’t make them work for hours at a time; everyone needs a break, and check in with your child’s school if you have any queries. Daily skills are just as important- cooking, gardening, planning meals for the week, cleaning, budgeting etc are all things everyone needs to learn and what a perfect opportunity we have to teach these to our kids while we are stuck at home with them. If you’re still on holidays (like my children), allowing our kids to explore can open doors to many learning opportunities. My youngest son, Quinn found a fat hairy caterpillar today so I suggested he and his brother draw it. We caught the caterpillar in a bug catcher. We talked about shape, colour and textures. They helped each other with their drawings and we then discussed how and where we would let the caterpillar go. The boys sat and watched the caterpillar crawl out of the bug catcher onto some leaves. I’m not for one second saying we watch over our kids like hawks but if we happen to notice their interest in something, carry that on, try to find a learning experience that is fun and engaging - and if it’s something they have already shown an interest in it should be engaging for them! Win, win!! See more
