20.01.2022 URGENT ATTENTION REQUIRED FOR NSW RESIDENTS ONLY The NSW Parliament passed the Modern Slavery Act in 2018, yet the Berejiklian Government still refuses to proclaim this Act. It is absolutely vital that this Act is proclaimed so that the most vulnerable persons in our community are protected. The NSW Government must do its part to end modern slavery. 15.01.2022 The coronavirus crisis had had a devastating impact at all stages of garment supply chains, with no reprieve in sight for many. One of the worst issues for garm...ent workers, caused by this pandemic, has been the cancellation of orders. Typically, companies pay for orders from factories after they've been manufactured. Many companies have been exploiting this system, refusing to pay for orders that have already been produced or are in progress, leaving factories at a loss. The burden of these major cancellations is being felt from workers in sewing factories to those in mills producing fabric, and those farming the raw materials such as cotton. Most companies only have visibility over a small part of their supply chain, meaning they don't always see the full impact of order cancellations on their workers' wages and livelihoods. In order to provide support for all workers in the fashion industry, companies must consider workers at every stage of their supply chain, work with their suppliers to support garment workers, and make cancelling orders a last resort
