25.01.2022 Why is Plain English important to translations? Ambiguous English = Ambiguous translations Complex English = Complex translations Plain English = Plain translations... Of course, its not always as simple as this but this is a good rule of thumb that we follow at {{linkedin_mention(urn:li:organization:2240235|EthnoLink Language Services)}}. Plain English translates well into community languages, helping to improve the overall readability of in-language resources. And, did you know that... government-issued health information is typically written at a Grade 8 reading level? the average Australian reads at a Grade 5 level? Put simply, health information is not accessible for all Australians. Thats why we are so passionate about producing high quality translated and Plain English content. If you need help with Plain Language, {{linkedin_mention(urn:li:organization:2240235|EthnoLink Language Services)}} can help! We strongly believe everyone should have access to vital information, whether that be in their own language, or in Plain English. #plainenglish #translationservices #CALD #culturaldiversity #communityengagement #diversityandinclusion #healthpromotion #publichealth

15.01.2022 Today, on Remembrance Day, we pause to remember and commemorate soldiers around the world who have sacrificed their lives for their countries. Whilst we recognise that the events surrounding war are harrowing for the most part, at EthnoLink Language Services we have recently found it interesting to learn the impact that war has on language. 'Soldiers returning from overseas posts bring with them the foreign languages of these posts and in-group slang from everyday life.' - H...oward Manns, Monash University. You can read about the language of remembrance and the origins of terms such as digger, GI and ANZAC in Howard's article below https://hubs.li/H0zzqyv0 #remembranceday #lestweforget #translationservices #culturaldiversity #CALD #communityengagement #diversityandinclusion

14.01.2022 , ... Our team have been busy putting together this Multilingual Resource Library on COVID-19 with information available in 18 languages (and growing!) For many Australians who dont speak English well, they rely on information from friends and family, what they see on Facebook or what they hear in the community.... This can lead to misinformation spreading and people being scared and confused. So weve launched this online multilingual library of information from trusted health authorities such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Department of Health. Feel free to share this resource!
