24.01.2022 Things to consider before selling your investments due to the Corona Virus. If you hold shares, I can understand the compulsion to sell them, especially if your livelihood depends on it, but before you do, consider the following: Have your dividends been impacted in previous market downturns? ... If you take CBA shares as an example, the latest 2 dividends (March this year and Last August) would have provided a dividend yield of 5.3% (7.5% if you count the franking credit). If you compare that to the dividends during the Global Financial Crisis in 2008-2009, the 2 dividends leading up to February 2008 would have produced an unfranked yield of 5.4% (7.7% franked) and the 2 dividends leading up to February 2009 (the low of the GFC) would have produced a yield of 7.3% (10.5% franked). Now, im not saying all shares are like CBA but it's worth a deeper look into what you have. This information is readily available through Google (search dividend history and historical share prices). If your investments provided sufficient income through dividends and what not, ask yourself if there is another reason to sell? Also ask yourself if you sell, are you at risk of sitting on the sidelines too long and miss out on a recovery? What if your monies are in an investment that's spread across many investments. You might take comfort in knowing that some of your investments have bonds in them which are currently increasing in price as shares are falling (yes I know the interest/yields are low but don't forget the capital return you might be enjoying right now). What if some of your investments are held in listed or unlisted property? Perhaps it has a strong tenant that can afford to pay rent with a long lease and therefore continue making rental distributions to you. Imagine selling everything and living off 1-2% in cash. Imagine selling your shares and being surprised with a tax bill on all the gains you've made since you bought them (keep in mind each tax situation is different). Look, don't take this as a hold recommendation, each situation is unique, perhaps for you it's less about income but more about saving and require a set amount of money to make a lump sum purchase in the near future. The key message is, just be better informed before you pull the trigger. On the flip side, you will find many people seeing this as an opportunity to buy into shares at a discount over the coming year. No one knows the future. There's plenty of people you could speak to who would give advice but just make sure they're the right one for you and understand who you are and your situation. Disclaimer: This is general information only and is not intended to be a recommendation. It is recommended that you seek advice from a registered adviser to ensure whatever you do is appropriate to your needs, financial situation and investment objectives.

24.01.2022 Something to be aware of on why Westpac shares have fallen (see article on the bank's failure to tighten up anti-money laundering procedures and suspicious transactions). CBA did a similar thing with 53,700 breaches and were fined $700 million. AUSTRAC alleges more than 23 million breaches which dwarfs CBA's amount and we are waiting to hear what the fine would be. This might be something to think about when choosing to invest in single stocks vs diversifying into a broader portfolio. https://www.abc.net.au//westpac-hartzer-austrac-m/11724092

23.01.2022 With tax laws always changing, its important to select the right structure/s when setting up a business, reviewing trading operations, and planning an effective exit strategy. For example, there are special rules that apply to capital gains tax for Partnerships including factional interest rules, access to CGT discounts and small business concessions. Knowing these rules, like we do, can make a difference to your profits, year after year. So don't look back, look forward and have us in your team #forwardthinking #etlanda http://www.etlanda.com/a/tax-effective-business-structures/

02.01.2022 The government pays up to $500 if you have met certain criteria (government super co-contribution). Some criteria includes (1) 10% or more of your total income must come from employment and/or carrying on a business, (2) having an income of up to $38,564 for the 2019-20 financial year. The $500 co-contribution reduces for every dollar greater than $38,564 and cuts out at $53,564 and (3) making a personal non-concessional conribution of up to $1,000 to super. We recommend seeking professional advice beforehand and be aware that there are more rules that need to be checked before contributing which can be found at the following website: https://www.ato.gov.au//Growing-you/Super-co-contribution/

01.01.2022 A huge congratulations to Yen from the Etlanda team on successfully completing her CPA studies. This lovely young lady has worked hard and showed great determination in her studies.

01.01.2022 Before I became an Etlanda client my business accounting was in a mess. My former accountant simply didnt offer the help and advice I needed to get ahead. Instead, I got a shoe-box service which meant I was ATO compliant but thats about it. Today, thanks to their vast accounting knowledge and caring, friendly approach, my business continues to thrive and prosper. Ive even started a Self-Managed Super Fund with their help something I wouldnt be able to do on my own. T...he Etlanda team truly care about my personal and business goals and are always available to solve my bookkeeping and accounting challenges. Id recommend them to anyone who wants to grow a business with the right set-up and know-how. - Brett Solo, Principal, Padstow Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Centre http://www.etlanda.com/our-clients/
