25.01.2022 NAME AND SHAME! Industrial Recruitment Partners 58 hours at $37 flat! $2146 a week before tax. under the Award a casual employee is entitled to $2150.68 plus travel before tax for the same work!... Look at this screenshot sent to us by a member today. Great to see Electricians standing up to these labour hire mobs that are ripping workers off. If youre sick of seeing this sort of thing give them a call and let them know what you think!

24.01.2022 UGL CREW - HOLD THE LINE- VOTE NO!

24.01.2022 The ETU WA wrote to South 32 management in April this year, seeking to engage in discussion around an enterprise agreement (EA) specific to the Maintenance E&I team. The South 32 management did not believe that the ETU had the support of the workforce. You would have to be deluded to think we didnt given the constant wage attacks ongoing at South 32 on our members, who are all on common law contracts. We have been welcomed with open arms by members and prospective members.... They have been encouraged to see some union activism on the job and better yet, they are all willing to sign a petition (Majority Support Determination) in support of the union bargaining for an enterprise agreement that cant be altered by an executives directive. Seems to us that the executives certainly know how to execute a HUGE pay rise - for themselves only. South 32 its time! See more

24.01.2022 UGL Barrow Island crew this is the message VOTE NO!!!

22.01.2022 Congratulations ALL UGL crew at Barrow Island. A resounding NO vote that has sent the clearest message yet to UGL. All the Unions will be back at the table with UGL shortly. Hold the line!

22.01.2022 There has never been a more important time to be a union member. Amidst economic downturn, rising unemployment, and large-scale IR reform, friends dont let fri...ends go it alone without a union. Thats why were encouraging you to sign up a mate whos not already in the ETU. 22.01.2022 SHAME SERCO SHAME Serco are not delivering fair wages and conditions to their workers and they are not delivering the WA taxpayers the services they're being pa...id for. Serco were stripped of the contract for sterilising surgical equipment at Fiona Stanley Hospital when human tissue was found of equipment that was supposed to be sterile. That's not a one off. That's the attitude they take to everything they're supposed to deliver. They are a profit driven multinational that makes money by not actually providing what they're paid for. Privatisation doesn't deliver services for less. It just delivers less services. 21.01.2022 The ETU and its members on the Salini/NRW FAL Metronet Project are calling on Salini to realise that the hourly rate for experienced, licensed electricians is not nearly good enough for this major infrastructure project. During the earlier phase of the project, many of the tunnel boring crew were in receipt of a ring/casing bonus, on top of their EBA and outside the scope of the EBA. But NOT the electricians, who were crucial to maintaining the tunnel boring machines and all...ied equipment to keep the project running. Now, as the project moves into a later, crucial phase, including major electrical installation, termination, pre commissioning and commissioning, Salini need to wake up and realise that the rates need to be lifted to attract and retain good sparkies. Salini/NRW executives and board members continue to drink large from the pay trough, while those that do the real work, and who make them rich, are disrespected! Salini/NRW need to cough up and fix this ASAP or risk damaging a decent, timely completion. You can’t electrify this project with non-licensed trades, labourers and trades assistants doing all the work!!!! Ian Gill ETU Lead Organiser - Electrical Contracting

21.01.2022 An important message to our members and all workers at KGP regarding proposed changes to rosters

20.01.2022 A follow up from our video the other day. Great show of solidarity from workers and the unions that represent them.

20.01.2022 If you dont think the establishment (who this clown and his lackeys govern on behalf of) wants the working class to pay for the fall-out from Covid youre deluded. Theyre cosying up to the ACTU to have them endorse it. The ETU says NO. Peter Carter ETU WA State Sec

20.01.2022 It begins. Assistant state secretary Brendan Reeve met with Western Power Picton Depot members for the first of many depot visits state wide to discuss the Log Of Claims for their upcoming EBA. Picton is the first depot of 26 in what is arguably the ETUs largest membership.... They proved they can fight when they got WA Labor elected at last election on the back of an anti-privatisation campaign. They did fight they did win and they will do it again. This is what high density union membership does. Join your Union, Join the ETU!

20.01.2022 An important message about the parlous state of the Electrical Contracting Industry, the refusal of contractors to address the wage race to the bottom and an epidemic of bankruptcies, leaving workers fighting for owed wages & entitlements. Peter Carter ETU State Sec

19.01.2022 "Shell cares about the safety of employees and contractors". Or so says Shells HR spin doctors. The facts speak for themselves with yet another serious inciden...t on the Prelude. The toxic workplace culture coming from the Shell House HR department impacts employees at all levels, including OHS. 2 years for Shell to fix a damaged guard on the Prelude? Even by Shells standards, this is not good enough. Shell pretend that they want feedback and input from employees in addressing their concerns but the reality is far, far different. Maintenance schedules are being ignored as Shell put the almighty dollar before the safety of workers. Shell sacked 25 maintenance workers on Prelude at the onset of Covid-19 and this has now come at a price that cant be measured in dollars and cents. NOPSEMA havent carried out a single offshore inspection since March and we will be watching with interest to see how they deal with Shell after their latest OHS incident. Shells toxic workplace culture starts with individual employment contracts and ends with coercion, threats and workplace bullying. A Root Cause Analysis of Shells latest OHS incident must by necessity identify systematic failings by Shell, and should not put the blame on any individual worker. NOPSEMA need to get answers on why a damaged guard doesnt get fixed for 2 years. Shell management need to be held to account as they are not Koala Bears.

18.01.2022 TES have millions and millions of dollars of electrical work on at the minute and plenty of that will be getting stuffed into the family trust account no doubt. Meanwhile, their employees get a COVID care pack and a pay cut! This mob have been getting away with this kind of behaviour for too long!! TES its time to set things straight!

17.01.2022 While other building and construction trades are seeing better wage and entitlement outcomes, in particular in the city block, Peak Commercial Electrical have actively engaged in ensuring licensed electricians sit at the bottom of the wages table, while also making sure they remain on-site alone when the summer heat and 37.5C plus temperatures arrive. If you are new to Peak Commercial, no matter what your years of trade experience are, their dodgy EBA says they will pay you t...he princely sum of $28.70 per hour! But don’t worry, after being with the company for more than two years and less than four, you can advance to another pathetic rate of $32.80! This mob are on Capital Square and Lots 2 & 3 at Elizabeth Quay, the latter a project in the hundreds of millions in build value. They have effectively consigned a four-year electrical apprenticeship that results in a licensed trade qualification and issuance of your Energy Safety WA Electricians Licence card into little more than a Bunnings wage rate and Bunnings voucher card! It's time Peak Commercial ponied up and applied to vary their agreement with an upwards hourly rate outcome that shows respect to their employees. And while you are at it, throw in income protection and a proper severance redundancy scheme! NECA will no doubt have you lined up as a shining example of the Electrical Contracting industry! What a disgrace! Ian Gill ETU Lead Organiser - Electrical Contracting

17.01.2022 From North West Organiser Alister Robinson "We have just spoken to a few of our members this morning in regards to the frequency of room cleans at the Mulla Mulla Camp for South Flank . We have asked them to take a picture of the room cleaning schedule in your room and send them to me personally. This will be brought up on site tomorrow whilst we are there. ... This is no fault of the employees who have the task of cleaning the rooms , this is down to employees being given the expectations to clean between 25 - 50 rooms per day for the cleaning contractor. The anger needs to be focused at ESS. I have asked our members to send me the contact details of the camp manager which is readily available at the office and dry mess / reception. They will be contacted on site and in Perth when the office opens tomorrow."

17.01.2022 Not happy with stripping away penalty rates, to allegedly secure ongoing work for its employees, TES have decided to use subbies on one of its jobs, thereby stripping away the very job security that giving up those penalty rates was allegedly supposed to secure! The subbies are probably running around in TES clothing so the builder or anyone else doesnt know! So how good is taking away penalty rates and taking away work from your employees?... Well thats one for TES management! It really is time TES played with a straight bat, instead of using it to bludgeon their employees further down the race to the bottom slippery slope! Time for an EBA that will lock in decent rates and conditions and stop this type of shonky behaviour from happening ever again!

16.01.2022 ETU officials Brendan Reeve and Mark Mocerino, along with AMWU official Jade Cochrane were at Austal Ships early this morning, handing out flyers to employees regarding their expired EBA and how to go about ensuring they get a better deal to bring them in line with other shipyards along the Henderson strip. For decades now, Austal Ships has had some of the lowest wages and worst conditions in Australias shipbuilding industry. They have just been awarded a $350million naval contract to build 6 new Cape Class Patrol Vessels so there is no excuse not to sit down and bargain a new EBA. 16.01.2022 Adam Woodage caught up with Peter Rozentals today just prior to commencing negotiations for the Alcoa CEPU agreement. Peter has been a valued convenor for the ETU WA at the Alcoa Pinjarra site. He looks forward to advancing the agreement for the next generation. Well done Peter 40 plus years with the ETU!

16.01.2022 South flank update Today we were contacted by CCIWA ( employer representatives ) regarding the progress of the issue of room cleans not being up to standard . Comments made were in response to and reflected the concerns we raised via social media and the email sent to contractors and the client .... It has been acknowledged that the room cleaning schedule has been sub standard and improvements are being made to have a more frequent room clean on a regular basis. ESS have mobilised more staff to site to accommodate the numbers of employees on site at camp . It was also brought up that W BLOCK at the camp is extremely noisy due to the thickness and insulation properties of the walls . A third party specialist will be coming to site towards the end of the week to perform acoustic testing since the installation of sound proof panels . Thanks for keeping us informed and providing the evidence we need to hold those to task .

16.01.2022 The blue collar Unions work together on more than just industrial, social and environmental issues. When one of our members is going through troubled times we commonly come together to help them out. Such an occasion happened again on Friday where we held a fundraising bbq at seagull tavern Kwinana beach. Multiple sites along the Kwinana strip put that hat around, and delegates and members came down to show support. ... A big thanks to the CFMEU WA for putting on the BBQ and to the AMWU Australian Manufacturing Workers Union WA for the donation on behalf of your members. We wish our member all the best with what she is going through and she knows she has the backing of all the blue collar Unions and their members!

16.01.2022 UGL crew at Barrow Island We believe it is only a matter of time before UGL push out a sub standard agreement for all those who work at Barrow Island. You know you are worth more, we know you are worth more. Even UGL know you are worth more! ... The difference is UGL want to try it on and take money off you. Come along to the next report back meeting on Monday 15 March at Trades Hall and have your say!

15.01.2022 Sparkies on Salinis FAL Perth Airport Tunnel project have been dudded by Salini on their licensed trade rates! This mob know how to shaft electrical workers while bumbling their way through a massive infrastructure project that has failed on safety and failed to value electricians. Good luck when you want these highly skilled workers to get your rail project electrified! Shame on Salini! Zero respect given to electrical trades!

14.01.2022 Monadelphous employees on the Shell Prelude FLNG facility, 475km north of Broome, are in the process of returning their ballot papers in support of protected industrial action against Shell. Back in February this year, the combined Unions and our members within Monos had reached in principle agreement on a very good EBA that would replace the current baseline piece of crap they currently work under. Then Covid-19 landed on us all, and the agreed draft was never put out to vo...te. In the meantime Shell have taken everything off the table, and we are almost back to square one in terms of the new offer they have allowed Monadelphous to put to the workforce. Shell are a huge company with operations in multiple locations around the globe. They dont see any problem in paying their contractor workforce roughly $100,000 a year less than their core crew employees here in Australian waters. We do see a problem! The new deal is not good enough. Not by a long shot. Collective action is proven to deliver better outcomes for workers. The ETU and the Offshore Alliance are backing workers all the way in the fight for better job security, and better wages and conditions in the offshore oil and gas industry.

14.01.2022 Yet another example of why Electrical apprentices should be ETU members! Recently we were able to secure 4 positions within the Water Corporation for apprentice members who had been displaced due to COVID. Initially these positions were to be in 6 month increments through group training/labour hire type arrangements. However, through ongoing consultation with the Water Corporation and the Minister for Water, Dave Kelly MLA, these apprentices have now started as direct indentu...red employees of the Water Corporation. These 4 apprentices can now complete their apprenticeships whilst recieving quality training and secure employment. They came on as direct employees of Water Corporation at the end of August and are to be trained as dual trade HA Instrumentation Electricians by the time they complete their apprenticeships. 13.01.2022 OFFSHORE UPDATE The ETU and the Offshore Alliance have been successful in attaining a Majority Support Determination for Legeneering employees engaged on the Woodside offshore facilities. Legeneering vehemently (and clumsily) opposed the joint Unions application in the Fair Work Commission, but patience, diligence and some sterling work by our Legal teams eventually won the day. Congratulations and thank you to the Legeneering employees who were actively involved in getting ...us this far. Now the fun begins! In other offshore news, we have met twice with Chevron to negotiate an EBA for the core crew on the Wheatstone platform. They agreed to bargain when they realised there was 98% support within their workforce for an EBA. We are also going through the Majority Support process with Inpex and Shell core crew members right now. Inpex Management are delaying proceedings in the Commission to the best of their ability, and doing all they can to avoid the bargaining table. They, along with Shell have shown their true colours since Covid-19 arrived, but theyre not the only ones in our cross hairs. The struggle continues

12.01.2022 Today Adam Woodage presented Peter Rossi, a very long term member of the ETU and site convenor, with his 40 year membership certificate. Peter has been a great advocate for the ETU at Kwinana Alcoa and will continue to be as long as he works there. We reckon hell continue to be an advocate for the ETU even when he doesnt. Be like Peter, be a Union member!

12.01.2022 BBQ THIS SUNDAY All invited to attend the joint Union meeting, to receive an update on the legal tactics being used by south32 to not enter into negotiations despite the overwhelming majority giving a mandate to the union to proceed. representatives from all unions will be in attendance to answer your questions. ... 10.01.2022 Aerison Pty Ltd have failed to pay their workers superannuation quarterly payments on time. It may well be on its way, but its not good enough! Less days in our members accounts means less money when they retire. We advise all members to always check your super contributions and other entitlements such as construction long service leave. Contact us if there is any issues.... In addition to these late payments, members around the state have had enough of baseline agreements with a letter of offer, or the latest trend of an individual flexibility arrangement (IFA) over the top. They know, the employers know, and we know theres no bargaining over the T&Cs in these IFAs, its a take it or leave it situation. Well enough is enough! Get on board with your Union today, lets lead the charge and make a positive change together! AMWU Australian Manufacturing Workers Union WA CFMEU WA

09.01.2022 EVERY WEST AUSTRALIAN NEEDS TO WATCH THIS! Vested interests are trying to derail Industrial Manslaughter legislation currently before the WA Parliament that wou...ld hold big businesses and CEOs to account for killing people. Lobby groups like the MBA and CCI are trying to make sure the legislation doesnt pass by arguing that it would be too costly, risk jobs, and criminalise accidents. Weve heard all the same arguments before. Theyre the same false arguments that are made any time big businesses are faced with any law that might stop them doing whatever they want, whenever they want. Heres the truth. IT DOES NOT CRIMINALISE ACCIDENTS. If a death is truly an accident, then employers are not liable under these laws in any way. The legislation only applies if employers can be shown to have acted outside existing health and safety obligations. So simply complying with existing health and safety laws would completely protect any business or employer from prosecution under the proposed laws. IT DOES NOT INCREASE THE COSTS OF COMPLIANCE There is no additional costs or requirements for health and safety law compliance under this proposed Industrial Manslaughter legislation. It does not compel anyone to do anything more than simply abide by existing health and safety laws. If any business is saying it will increase their costs, then they are actually admitting they are not currently complying with their obligations and would need to spend more to simply comply with the existing laws. IT WILL NOT COST JOBS Industrial Manslaughter laws exist in other countries and other States. There is no jurisdiction where laws like this have come into effect where there has been any reduction in the rates of employment as a result. THIS IS ABOUT MONEY The only thing these laws will do is make sure businesses and bosses actually face some meaningful consequence if they chose to put their own profits above peoples lives by cutting corners on their legal obligations. The attempt to derail this legislation, as the families of lost workers said today, is a disgusting display of dishonesty and contempt by the MBA. Shameful. AMWU Australian Manufacturing Workers Union WA, ETU WA Branch, Maritime Union of Australia - WA Branch, Unions WA

09.01.2022 UNIONS ARE YET AGAIN ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF HISTORY Right now theres a battle going on over laws being put to the Parliament of Western Australia that would hold... business owners and CEOs to account if they kill a worker by failing to meet their health and safety obligations. On one side of this fight are Unions and the families of the workers who have been killed through the disgraceful indifference or blatant corner cutting of their employers. On the other side are the lobby groups and vested interests who pretend to speak for their industry but are actually just the paid mouthpiece of big business interests. These are not the families of workers who died from an unforeseeable accident. They are workers who died because of a known or clearly foreseeable problem that their employed did nothing about because they didnt want to pay the cost of complying with the law. Future generations will look back on this issue the same way that we look back on the fight from Unions to abolish child labour. They wont believe that anyone was shameless enough to put forward a serious argument against these laws. But the history of the Union movement is a history of having to fight against vested interests for the most obvious and basic fairness. So here we are again having to make the case that if an employer is shown to have broken the law and kills one of their workers then they should have to face the music. And here we are again with business lobby groups trying to seriously make the case that it would be too much of a burden on them. Heres a list of just a few things throughout history that big business owners and their lobby groups told legislators would place far too onerous a burden on them and destroy their businesses and our economy. 1. Abolishing slavery 2. Abolishing child labour 3. A 40 hour working week 4. Sick Leave 5. Unfair dismissal laws 6. Gender discrimination laws 7. Racial discrimination laws 8. Workplace bullying legislation 9. Environmental protection laws Industrial Manslaughter laws are just the next in a long line of legislation that big business interests have shamelessly tried to derail to protect themselves from ever being held to account if they put their own profits ahead of the lives, safety, and dignity of workers and our community. The CFMEU and the entire West Australian Union movement stand with Mark and Janice Murrie and all the other families whos loved ones left for work one day and never came home. We demand, on their behalf, that the Parliament of Western Australia legislate real and meaningful consequences for bosses who kill a worker by breaching their health and safety obligations. To do anything less is to accept the argument that accountability under the law is only for ordinary Australians and is too arduous a requirement for business owners. 08.01.2022 INPEX and Broadspectrum should be hanging their heads in shame for their treatment of the Broadspectrum crew working on the INPEX offshore facilities. Using the excuse of Covid-19 and a reduction in POB on the INPEX facilities, Broadspectrum have sacked their offshore workforce from TRACE JV and re-hired them with one of their grub labour hire outfits, Snout Solutions. To make matters worse, Snout Solutions (fully owned by Broadspectrum) have got a bunch of biscuit makers fr...om South Australia to vote up a dodgy baseline Agreement which they are using to employ their INPEX workforce. It appears that not one of the Snout Solutions biscuit makers who supposedly voted on this dodgy baseline Agreement, have ever worked on an offshore facility before and probably never, ever will. Broadspectrum and INPEX have indulged in the most disgraceful rorting of failed industrial relations laws. It is a sham and a scam. The management of both companies must be really proud of what they have rolled out across the INPEX facilities. See more

08.01.2022 If youre an apprentice employed under the Federal Electrical Contracting Award make sure youre getting paid what youre entitled to. Recently we have seen a number of instances where apprentices arent being paid the allowances theyre entitled to under the award. Apprentice rates under the Award are the absolute minimum you can be paid and those rates are already low enough without having anything shaved off the top because your boss thinks they can get away with it.... A couple of dollars here and there may not seem like much but those amounts add up fast. If you are unsure of what allowances youre entitled to, or if youre not being paid what youre entitled to then get in touch with us at the ETU and we can help you get back what youre owed. To any employers out there who arent paying the correct rates and continue to do so you can expect a visit from us in the near future.

07.01.2022 Covid-19 is being used as an excuse to attack the pay and conditions of workers across the Hydrocarbon industry, and the ETU in conjunction with the Offshore Alliance is fighting back! We are lodging an application next week for Protected Action against Monadelphous/Shell on the Prelude facility. We are also in the process of Majority Support Determinations for Inpex and Shell core crews (in order to commence EBA bargaining), and we are continuing EBA negotiations with Chevron for the employees on the Wheatstone offshore facility. The ETU and the Offshore Alliance are battling on against unscrupulous multinational Oil and Gas producers. Offshore Alliance

04.01.2022 Here we are again at another Solar farm Project where certain employers believe its common practice to employ backpackers from other countries to perform work in Western Australia . West Australians are experiencing some of the highest unemployment rates to date due to the impact of Covid 19. The State Government has raised that Western Australians should be employed on these projects and the Clean Jobs Plan should be boosting employment in WA especially through the construc...tion phase. However here we are at an FMG Mine which has obviously approved the use of foreign backpackers to perform work under the guise of a company called RL Solar who are fabricating the framework for the Solar Farm, Let me also mention that we have been advised that these backpackers are only on $31.50 flat as a casual . So not only are RL Solar taking job opportunities from WA workers they are also undercutting rates and conditions in the process. Ruining the Trade RL Solar Mark McGowan how does this align with your WA recovery plan? FMG Andrew Forrest Bill Johnston MLA

04.01.2022 Corestaff are an Australia wide labour hire mob that use a low ball baseline agreement with contracts on top. This is often a flat rate, casual employment. This means they can terminate you at very short notice. Yet they give themselves the power over prospective employees by having them sign an "AUTHORITY TO RECOUP FUNDS FORM" this allows them to seek monies from the prospective employee or hired employee; the ability to recoup costs for onboarding with them for medical, dr...ug tests, flights, inductions and even PPE!! So if your circumstances change and you cannot stay on with the assignment within 12 weeks of starting, Corestaff have your pre start signed authority to deduct monies from you! Some contracts we have seen dont even last that long! Forget OH&S law on employers providing PPE! CoreStaff Recruitment forcing you to sign away your rights and giving them the power to take your money even before you start to earn it in some cases!

03.01.2022 Vote NO to Powertech’s grubby baseline agreement. Starting NOW, Powertech employees will be voting on their Powertech Enterprise Agreement 2021. The ETU WA are calling on all Powertech employees covered by the substandard baseline agreement to VOTE NO. You do not want to be stuck on an agreement that is only just above the B.O.O.T for another four years. If this goes through, it will allow the company to lower your contract rate at will, based on the ebb and flow o...f their projects. Vote smart, VOTE NO!

03.01.2022 Important research on FIFO projects COVID-19 has changed many aspects of our lives and how FIFO work operates is no exception. It is important to understand the impacts of the current COVID-19 situations on workers.... A team of experts from Curtin University and University of Western Australia led by Professor Sharon Parker and Dr Jess Gilbert at the Centre for Transformative Work Design are conducting research on mental health and wellbeing in FIFO workers during COVID-19 and aims to identify the attributes of FIFO workplaces that contribute to mental health. Mental health is a serious issue and FIFO work can contribute to mental health issues. If you have worked on FIFO projects, then you are encouraged to participate in this survey. 01.01.2022 ALL UNION FUNDRAISER THIS AFTERNOON.

01.01.2022 After almost 12 months former EC&M employees are now receiving their FEG entitlements such as unpaid annual leave, weeks in lieu of termination, and unpaid wages from when EC&M went bust in August 2019. There are also post-administration entitlements to those that were recalled to work under the control of the administrator KPMG, such as stand down pay, and accrued annual leave. This has now been paid after significant pressure from the ETU.... What wasnt initially paid by FEG was redundancy pay to those entitled to it. ETU National Assistant Secretary Michael Wright (head of legal) got straight onto it. The final result being that any ex-EC&M employee who was employed as an electrician will now be paid over $5,000 each. One ETU member is now going to receive over $14k! (less tax) Redundancy pay of several hundred thousand dollars is now being paid when many of our members are most in need. A huge win for ETU members! Join your union!
