23.01.2022 Trade Talks! A team of European Union trade negotiators are meeting their Australian counterparts virtually for the 9th round of negotiations towards an EU-Australia Free Trade Agreement. Working to European and Australian time zones, the latest round is taking place over two weeks from 30 November to 11 December. Around 60 negotiators will take part in 20 different groups. Negotiations will cover all areas of the future agreement, including technical barriers to trade,... sustainable development, goods, public procurement, rules of origin, and intellectual property rights. The EU's chief negotiator Helena Konig says the agreement, once finalised, will boost EU-Australia relations. "It is very important to come with something that actually improves the situation from where we are now, making it easier to trade, making it easier to provide services or to invest. An agreement that is good for our stakeholders, whether it’s businesses both small and an agreement that cares about the environment, labour rights. All of those things are covered in the agreement.
