25.01.2022 Tuesday Tip. Love a neutral palette but its all feeling a little flat? Perhaps youre missing texture.... Texture is an important design element often overlooked and underused; it can be both tactile and / or visual. Tactile or Physical texture refers to the surface quality of the material, how it feels when you physically touch it; such as timber, stone, jute and linen. Whereas Visual texture appears to have physical texture but when touched doesnt have the same or expected effect, such as matt and shiny finishes or patterned surfaces. Texture helps differentiate between surfaces and objects, communicate a particular design style and create interest. It can generate warmth, provoke a memory or induce a particular feeling. @gshepherdinterior nails texture in The Pavilion through her considered use of material including stone, timber, polished plaster, linen, jute and wool. 24.01.2022 As Australians, particularly here in QLD, we love outdoor living with these areas having become an extension of our homes; and as such Ive been asked to consider these spaces more and more over the years. After losing privacy when the neighbours had their trees cut down a new pergola and screen is proposed to be attached to the existing entertainment area, creating a cosy, inviting and secluded little corner in the garden while still allowing the morning l...ight to penetrate the interior of the home. 3D concept @eucalyptstudio See more

21.01.2022 So Ive felt a little paralysed with social media of late and heres why. What do you say? What do you do, and say, and post, and talk about during these challenging times? It seems trivial to post pretty pictures for others to aspire to, to show what could be, to appear to be selling a dream when so many people are currently doing it tough and dont know if theyll even have a roof over their head in the coming months let alone how ...theyll feed their children tomorrow. And Its heartbreaking. Its heartbreaking to watch the news and open your social media accounts to such despair, negativity and hate. To see small businesses built up over 30+ years lose it all overnight, to watch the selfishness of others and racist attacks. To see so many of my family, friends and former colleagues impacted. So what can we do? Be kind. Thats it, just be kind. Show kindness through consideration, be mindful of what youre about to do or say, dont discriminate who youre kind to you dont know what challenges theyre facing or mindset theyre in, spread good intentions and smiles, theyre free and infectious and most of all be kind to you. 20.01.2022 Same kitchen. Different Finishes. Youre probably more than aware that the finishes you select for your home can can have a dramatic impact on the look of your space but they can also have an impact both emotionally and physically on a conscious and sub-conscious level. You know that feeling you get when you walk into a spa and feel instantly relaxed or when you walk into a wine bar and suddenly feel sexier than you did just seconds ago. ... Theyre both usually smaller, dimly lit spaces but the colour palette, finishes and application of these evoke vastly different feelings. Your home should reflect both who you are and who you aspire to be. So who are you? A or B? And what feelings do these evoke in you? @ Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

14.01.2022 Coveting those terrazzo tiles? Would love to conceal those curtain tracks? These decisions may seem like they come towards the end of your project but theyre just a couple of instances where the finishes and fixtures chosen will need to be considered during the planning stage in order for your builder to accommodate them and price accordingly.

13.01.2022 Are you prepared to evolve?

12.01.2022 Tuesday Tip Dont have the space for a Butlers Pantry? Consider incorporating an appliance cabinet into your kitchen like this lovely one by @arentpykestudio in their stunning Treetop House project photographed by @smartanson An appliance cabinet is a great way to keep your benchtops free of those everyday essentials and hide away the clutter when entertaining. ... When including an appliance cabinet consider what you will storing and how you will be primarily using this space. Is it just a coffee or breakfast station? Will it also be your pantry? How many appliances will be used on a daily basis? Will you be working in here? Eg operating a coffee machine or mix master. Is it likely the doors will remain open the majority of the time or closed unless in use? Heres my top 5 tips to help you on your way. 1. Utilise internal drawers below bench height to ensure maximum storage and easy access to all your items. 2. Add a small utensil insert to your top drawer to keep some additional teaspoons and knives close at hand. 3. Include at least 2 double powerpoints to ensure you have enough points for all your everyday essentials. 4. Dont forget to add lighting internally and consider putting these on a sensor when you open the doors. 5. A minimum 900mmW cabinet will provide you with enough bench space for your everyday appliances and plenty of elbow room to work with. While youre at it why not add a punch more personality by incorporating a fun colour internally like theyve done here See more

11.01.2022 C H A N G E T H E D A T E January 26th is not a day to celebrate our unity as a nation. 09.01.2022 Speaking of taking small steps in the right direction. One small positive change we can all make is swapping out those plastic pegs we usually have to replace every couple of months for a long lasting stainless steel option such as these from @thedirtcompany There are plenty of suppliers of these out there but I like the Dirt Company as theirs are 316 stainless steel so great if you live by the water like we do, they come in a handy recycled bag and I love their philosophy.... No matter where you purchase yours from youre not only helping to remove plastic from our environment theyre super strong, fully recyclable (though you should be able to pass these down to your kids ) and also look great! TIP: 30 pegs just isnt enough for a family. I recommend ordering 2 sets then once you have your confirmation (if you order from Dirt) you can reply to the email and ask them to pop them all in the one handy weatherproof bag. No need for 2 of those on your line This is not a sponsored post. I just like sharing the love @ Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

08.01.2022 Seen a feature you adore in a commercial application? Just like couture on the runways of Milan is interpreted for the streets you too can take inspiration from that gorgeous design feature from your favourite restaurant. In fact I encourage it. 08.01.2022 Toondah Harbour, on Brisbanes east coast, is a special place. But it's under threat. It is home to endangered bird species and sits in Moreton Bay, where dugon...gs, humpback whales, dolphins and sea turtles play Walker Corporation, a powerful property developer, wants to build 3600 luxury high rise apartments on the harbour's protected wetlands This would destroy the wetlands and push already endangered species to extinction. This is happening because our national environment laws don't *actually* protect nature. We must protect Toondah Harbour.
