19.01.2022 Hey lovers x As many of you know, I've been sticking my fingers in a few new musical pies lately. Attempting to spread my wings, and really starting to feel lik...e I'm finding my new groove, with the help of some beautiful, encouraging and inspiring people. I've decided to wrap things up with Eugene - The Band, and we will be playing our final show together this Saturday 18th March at The Record Crate. Fil and I met in August 2014 after I answered his Gumtree ad looking for band members to start an "Alternative Stoner Rock band" with influences along the lines of Type O Negative, Johnny Cash, Mike Patton, Talking Heads and David Bowie. His vision sounded suitably confused and matched to my lack of genre clarity. I'd been trawling the Gumtree muso ads for a while, and had just been told by some other bloke that I couldn't join his band because I wasn't "heavy enough" (usual story, no audition, no request for audio file, no basis for this judgement beyond gender... p.s. his demo sucked anyway ;) ) so had very little faith at that point. My message to Fil was mainly a general compliment on the vibe of his demo he'd posted of his song All The Kids. He sounded slightly nuts, with his Bowie phrasing and Byrne vibe. Probably someone I could hang around and be socially awkward with. I didn't really think he would listen to my track (a demo version of Patience - https://soundcloud.com/kate-v/patience-studio-progress-30th ) let alone have any interest in jamming, but hey, I sent it anyway. To my surprise he did actually reply, we met up at a pub, and after I was vetted as probably not being a serial killer, went to his place and played mostly Bowie covers for several hours. Thus started the journey. After jamming and writing together for many months, along with our rhythm section - our first bass player Ryan, and our may-as-well-be-founding-member drummer Samir - we played our first show as Eugene at The Townie Open Mic Night on Wednesday 18th March 2015. Exactly 2yrs later on Saturday 18th March 2017 we will celebrate with our show at the Record Crate in Glebe (https://www.facebook.com/events/1433563190019758/), which will be the last chance to see me play with both Eugene and my new band Anonymii sharing the same stage on the same night. We'd really really love to see you guys there to mark the end of an era. I've met so many amazing musicians and performers in my time with Eugene and I'm looking forward to continuing to be part of the Sydney music scene in the years to come.
