05.01.2022 In 2020 the brigade responded to nearly 40 separate incidents, including assisting the NSW Ambulance service, motor vehicle accidents, bush fires and structure fires. The beginning of the year finally heralded the extinguishment of the worst fires on record in our region and allowed members to travel to the south of the state to assist in areas that were still being threatened. In December, the members of the brigade were deservedly recognized for their efforts during the 2...019/2020 fire season by the NSW state government in the form of the Premiers Citation. Not content with an unprecedented bushfire season, fate then decided to throw COVID 19 at us all. This meant training that had been delayed because of the extended fire season was again put on hold, and it would not be until the middle of the year that the situation could be remedied. When training restarted, courses were held on weekends and midweek in an attempt to catch up, and our members stepped up and completed many hours as participants, instructors or assistants. Sadly, July saw a home in Eungai Rail destroyed by fire. The brigade arrived to find the house well alight and threatening a neighbouring residence. The crew got to work and ensured that the fire was not able to spread to the adjoining property until backup arrived. As we begin 2021, please take the time to talk to your family about making a bushfire survival plan and help us to keep our community safe. See more
