23.01.2022 Many of us were forced to endure the hobbit through our school years before it was an exciting action-adventure blockbuster. As teens we were pressed to realise the book’s academic merit, by exploring and appreciate its metaphors and allegory. We spent months dissecting and discussing the loyalty, courage, and common sense of Bilbo. How he was constantly faced with decisions, that would see him do the right thing. We learnt that even the smallest and most insignificant p...eople can change the world. Yet one powerful message often fell by the wayside amongst all this. It is also a tale of coming back to self. Connecting with who you truly and owning it. Hobbits strive to avoid adventure, so Bilbo is quietly ostracised on his return to Bag End when his journey is over. However, this is just because of the otherness of his adventure. Bilbo experienced things that the other hobbits just simply couldn’t understand. And although the Bilbo we meet at the beginning of this adventure would be concerned by this, the Bilbo we’ve come to know at the end couldn’t care less what the others think of him. He has come into his own power, feels his own individual worth, found some unexpected yet wonderful friends, and built extraordinary memories along the way. Bilbo’s story shows us that anyone can find self-confidence and self-worth when they find the courage to dive in to their unknown, travel their own journey, forget the opinions of others, and simply live life to its fullest.

19.01.2022 September is Happy Cat Month. There’s often a divide between dog people and cat people. Interestingly, few cat people hate dogs, they just prefer cats. Whereas many dog people really, really, dislike cats. Ah, the vicious cycle of public opinion. ... Thing is, despite how it may seem, cats are in fact social creatures. They crave affection. They want to feel they belong. They yearn to have a safe and happy existence, just like the rest of us. Sometimes cat’s need to know they are good enough too. CATalyst Council say they created the annual event to assist in spreading the word about the health, welfare, and value of companion cats. Often, cats are viewed as self-reliant, aloof, and less in need of medical care than dogs. The aim of this event is to counteract these stereotypes and ensure cats are well cared for, enriched, and receive the preventive care they require. Does not feeling good enough sometimes leave you not treating yourself the best? Are you in need of a little care and enrichment? Don’t wait for take care of yourself month. Start now. Make it I’m a happy cat month (and if you have a cat, don’t forget to give them a little extra love too!).

17.01.2022 Monthly challenge time! Today's challenge is to: do something that feels good for you! I chose to... roll around in a pile of marshmallows and it felt amazing! Not really, but this photo makes me want to! I chose to sip my morning coffee outside in the sun, and it did feel amazing. For the rest of the day I felt more energised than any other day this week. I was able to deal with the inevitable technological catastrophes of the day better than ever before (just, breathe). A...nd strangely I had zero sugar cravings, perhaps it was that extra boost of energy I started the day with! Tell us, what did you do and how did it feel?

16.01.2022 That moment, when you're trying to share a behind the scenes photo of one of your beautiful healing spaces...and you realise it was photo bombed.

16.01.2022 Everyone has their own way of doing things. For us, it's spending some time each week doing things that we know we can be good at AND will enjoy (craft day, here we come!). We'd love if you would share with us in the comments what your go to is for feeling better about you.

16.01.2022 Let us know in the comments what (positive) "blanks" you're able to find about yourself today. Ours is "I am good at not giving up, even when things aren't easy"

14.01.2022 Today on answering your questions we have: The one question all hypnotherapists know they will have to answer, at least a gazillion times Are you going to make me cluck like a chicken?... Thanks stage hypnotists. We love you for this one. No seriously, challenge accepted. This is actually a great question. Because it opens the conversation up for us to talk about how it really works. Most importantly, although many stage hypnotists skillfully use their PIZAZZ and WOW to influence you, and the rest of the audience, in to thinking they have mind controlled you they haven’t (sorry entertainers, there’s just no way to answer this one without revealing your magic secrets). Going up on stage is your free choice. Participating in the demonstration, knowing that the hypnotist is going to do something to you, is your free choice. Closing your eyes and relaxing into the hypnotic state is your free choice. And in the same way, everything you say or do while in the hypnotic state is YOUR FREE CHOICE. That’s right. You made yourself cluck like a chicken. Perhaps you always wanted to be a bird, fly high, soar up in the sky above the world. Perhaps you were just ready for a laugh. Whatever the reason, some part of you expected it to work, so it did. And that is the real magic. You didn’t even have to BELIEVE it would work, just EXPECT it to. The subconscious mind is THAT POWERFUL. It can take expectation and translate it to reality by making it PERCEPTION. And that is, essentially, all there is to hypnosis. Well, at a really high level of course. You let yourself relax, flow on in to a focused state, listen to the suggestions spoken by the hypnotist, choose which words to receive or reject, and then behave accordingly. Working with a hypnotherapist is the same, just with a different purpose. Where the stage hypnotist leverages the power of suggestion to invite you to participate in entertaining performances, the hypnotherapist uses that same power of suggestion to invite you to move towards your goals. A hypnotherapist does not control a client, they are simply a facilitator offering positive suggestion while you are in the hypnotic state. You will not say or do anything during hypnosis that you have not chosen for yourself. If while in hypnosis a suggestion is inconsistent with your own free will, personality, or values, you will simply reject it - exactly the same as you would at any other time. You don’t even have to believe that it will work. You just have to expect it to.

03.01.2022 Too busy for you? Barely keeping on top of the day to day? Holding back the emotional tsunami?... Give yourself permission to have just 3-5 minutes of calm. That’s right, a few minutes is all you need. And you don’t even have to make time for it (what!?!?). In this series I’ll help you find ways to take those few minutes, while doing something that’s already part of your life! Simple mindfulness practices to help ground you. Even if you think you don’t have time, or are not one of those people over time, if you practice mindfulness regularly, it will help you. It will help you to create a more intentional life. It will help you to feel less hurried. It will help you to experience more joy - because you will have space to notice it more. You will find a different way to live. And hey, since it’s only a few minutes (while you’re already doing something else, again, say what!?!?) there’s nothing to lose, right? In this month’s activity, invite a few mindful moments in to your day while enjoying a cup of tea (or coffee, hot chocolate whatever your flavour). 03.01.2022 Why does everyone tell me to practice gratitude??? It’s actually quite simple. Taking a moment to consciously appreciate what is stimulates more dopamine and serotonin (the feel good ones) in our brains. This promotes feelings of contentment. This places us in a better frame of mind. This shifts our perception of the world around us. This helps our ability to analyse and reflect, constructively. This gives us a platform for easier access to self esteem, happiness, and gen...eral wellbeing. This enables us to participate in activities that fuel us. We think good, we feel good, and then we’re better able to do things that are good for us. Gratitude is a way of training our brains to revert to positivity (and it works, even if we’ve spent a long time training that brain to revert to negativity). Heard the old adage that it takes 21 days to form a new habit? That’s only 3 weeks. What would it be like to give a daily gratitude activity a go, for only 3 weeks, and just see what happens?

01.01.2022 Our new tribe, sharing some love for us :)

01.01.2022 Do you rationally, logically, intellectually know you are worthy yet part of you still sometimes just doesn’t feel good enough? How is that even possible, to know one thing and feel the opposite? Could it be that our personality isn’t just a single piece of us? Instead, it is composed of many parts? ... Very likely. There are plenty of hypotheses out there, and evidence to back them up, in line with this very thinking. There are empowering therapy modalities, available to you, based on this understanding. For example, when you spend time with a therapist trained in Resource Therapy techniques (yes that includes me ), they can help you to invite the part of you that holds a problem to the conscious. You can then work directly with that part to facilitate change, rather than speaking to some other part of you, that may not be that helpful. When all our parts are healthy, well integrated with one another, allowing each other to be in charge at the right time, in the right proportion we feel more balanced and are able to live a richer life. Check out this book by Gordon Emmerson, the founder of Resource Therapy - Healthy Parts, Happy Self: 3 Steps to Like Yourself.
