19.01.2022 Just got a call from Medicare because of the virus they were asking to update my details so I will get the $750 government payment. Please do not tell anyone ...your name or any other information. If it was Medicare they would be able to tell me what my name is. Medicare do not ring you, and you dont need to do anything to get government funds. Disgusting scammers at work again See more

05.01.2022 Coronavirus alert Public Health Services have contacted a number of tourism and hospitality businesses following advice from an interstate health department tha...t two people who travelled in Tasmania last month have subsequently been diagnosed with coronavirus. The two people travelled together as part of an organised tour of Tasmania from 12 to 23 March. One was likely to have been infectious with coronavirus from 12 March. The other from 19 March. Neither person was aware they had coronavirus while they were in Tasmania and did not present for either medical care or testing. They were only diagnosed after they returned to their home state. As part of the PHS investigation into their movements, it has been determined that they visited the following locations: - Hobart Travel Lodge (12-19 March) - Gray Line tour bus from Hobart to Port Arthur (morning of 13 March) - Port Arthur Historic Site and visitor centre (13 March) - Carnarvon Bay Navigators boat tour (afternoon of 13 March) - Female Factory Site, South Hobart (morning of 14 March) - Cascade Gardens, South Hobart (morning of 14 March) - MONA ferry from Hobart (1.15pm, 14 March) - MONA (1.30 to 4pm, 14 March) - Peppermint Bay Cruise and Restaurant (15 March) - Freycinet Marine Farm (16 March) - Kates Berry Farm (16 March) - Pennicott Cruises on Bruny Island (17 March) - Female Factory, South Hobart (18 March) - Grape Food and Wine Bar, Salamanca (18 March) - Launceston Leisure Inn (19-23 March) - Bridestowe Lavender Farm (20 March) - Pyengana Cheese Factory (20 March) - Lease 65, St Helens (20 March) - Batman Bridge River Cruise, run by Tamar River Cruises (21 March) - Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre and Waldheim Chalet (22 March) - Ashgrove Tasmanian Farm (22 March) Anyone who was at these locations on these days and who developed or develops respiratory symptoms in the 14 days after they were there should contact the Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738. Public Health Services is working with the tour operator to obtain more specific details about transport taken by the persons while in Tasmania and will provide this additional information as soon as it is available. Public Health Services is also sharing this information with communicable disease agencies interstate because it is expected that most close contacts of these cases will be interstate residents. The situation with coronavirus is changing regularly. People can stay up to date by visiting the Department of Health coronavirus website www.coronavirus.tas.gov.au or the Australian Government Department of Health website at www.health.gov.au. Anyone requiring more information about coronavirus should contact the National Coronavirus Health Information Line on 1800 020 080.

05.01.2022 The residents got some much needed entertainment in our Eureka Gladstone village. Nothing like some music to lift your spirits. Thanks Bill and Esther for organising. :)

04.01.2022 LIVE UPDATE | coronavirus

02.01.2022 On This Day 15th January (1868) Princes Square Oak Trees and the first railway line in Tasmania 152 years ago today was a special day for Launceston and Ta...smania Prince Alfred Ernest Albert, the Duke of Edinburgh was the second son of Queen Victoria and the first member of the Royal Family to set foot in Australia. As a Captain in the Royal Navy he commanded the screw steamer HMS Galatea which he took on a world cruise in 1867. He arrived in Hobart on 6th January 1868 and after a round of activities there, including laying the foundation stone for St Davids Cathedral, he travelled north to Launceston by coach. On the 15th January 1868 his Royal Highness planted two Oak trees and a massive celebration was held in the Princes Square featuring a choir, candlelight and background illumination from the citys new town gas supply. At ten minutes to twelve his Royal Highness, who was in private dress, accompanied by his Excellency the Governor and Lieutenant Haig, and escorted by a guard of the First Light Cavalry, arrived at the north-east gate of Princes Square, where he was received by his Worship the Mayor. His Royal Highness then proceeded, accompanied by his Excellency and the Mayor, followed by the gentlemen within the grounds, to the Southern side of the Square where the ceremony was to take place. His Worship, addressing the Prince, said he had been desired to request his Royal Highness to plant two trees to be named after her Majesty the Queen and his Royal Highness respectively. His Royal Highness having graciously bowed in assent, the trees, which were young oaks, were successively placed in the ground and partially filled in by the Prince the first planted and nearest to St. John Street being named after her Majesty; the next, nearer Charles-street, after his Royal Highness. His Worship afterwards called for three cheers for her Majesty the Queen, three for his Royal Highness, and three for his Excellency the Governor, which were heartily given and were joined in by the thousands, who also cheered loudly for the Prince as he entered the carriage and rode away. His Royal Highness then proceeded, escorted by the Cavalry and followed by several carriages occupied by the Reception Committee and others, to the proposed terminus of the Western Railway. The event saw the name changed from the former St Johns Square to Princes Square to commemorate the momentous event. After the celebration in Princes Square his Royal Highness travelled to Inveresk where with the aid of a silver shovel (containing 40 ounces of silver) with blackwood handle, suitably engraved, he turned the first sod on the Launceston to Deloraine railway. He lifted the sod into a special wheelbarrow, made of huon pine with blackwood handles and with a carved shield including the Dukes coat of arms on the headboard. For ten long years there was much debate and many obstacles put in place in relation to the Launceston and Western Railway. Successive governments were appealed to, but lacking energy or courage to deal with the many questions on their merits, they temporised and vacillated, at one moment kindling hope, and the next extinguishing it. Like all great and good causes this one continued slowly to advance: its ultimate accomplishment was certain; it was simply a question of time The railway would eventually traverse seven out of twenty-four electoral districts, containing a third of the entire population of the colony and contributing 50 percent of all exports. #LauncestonEvents

02.01.2022 A convincing scam that appears to be from MyGov is catching out unsuspecting people. A text message asks them to update their personal information on what looks... to be a government website. A Department of Human Services spokeswoman says that while the department does sometimes text, call or email people to access personal information, DHS staff will always identify themselves.
