20.01.2022 EUREKA CYCLING - ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING The 2020 Eureka AGM will be conducted via Zoom video conference on Thursday 19th November at 7pm. Current financial members of the club are invited to attend the virtual meeting.... A vote will be staged at the AGM to determine the future of Eureka Cycling Club - primarily, which "peak body" will the club align with. An information pack was emailed to members three weeks ago, this includes a comprehensive review of the differences between the peak bodies - Australian Veterans Cycling Council (AVCC) and AusCycling - as well as the potential impact on Eureka conducting cycling events. Whatever the outcome of the vote, Eureka Cycling Club will continue to: 1. conduct cycling events for adults aged 30 years and over 2. be based at the club rooms on the Lake Learmonth foreshore 3. stage 90% of its events on Sunday mornings 4. be a blooming awesome bike club full of amazing people #EUREKAcycling

18.01.2022 RACING RETURNS TO EUREKA - NOVEMBER 29 FREE EVENT - AVCC MEMBERS ONLY NO PRIZES - NO STRESS - NO WORRIES EUREKA Cycling is happy to announce that we WILL be staging graded kermesse racing on the Burrumbeet circuit this Sunday - November 29th.... Distance range 38 Km to 51 Km depending on Division. Race registration will be at the Start/Finish line in Henderson's Road at 9AM. Race start 9:30 AM Public toilets are available near the club rooms and in Learmonth. The Eureka club rooms will NOT be open this Sunday! Due to the current COVID restrictions for indoors, we will NOT be opening the rooms to riders. All current members will receive an email detailing event requirements under the Eureka COVIDSafe Plan. The club expects ALL attendees to be compliant with the COVIDSafe Plan. EVERY person attending the event MUST carry a face mask! Face masks MUST be worn if the 1.5 metre social distancing rule cannot be maintained. No handshakes, backslaps or other touchy feely! Keep your hands to yourself at ALL times! 17.01.2022 REED POUNCES AGAIN - 1ST PLACE OVERALL Eureka member Darryn Reed stepped up into A Grade for the final race and WON! This was the second time that Reed has won the overall race! In a rare show of emotion, Reed typed ‘Yeah boi!’ on his fan page.... Other vets to do well in the final race of the series include Club President Stu Brien (2nd B Grade), Ash Burke (3rd in B Grade), James Knipe (4th in C Grade), Mark O’Callaghan 3rd in D Grade) and Ralph Jones (5th in D Grade). 14.01.2022 Eureka Cycling Club Thursday 19th November, 2020 Announcement by the Club President... I am very pleased to announce that at the Annual General Meeting held on Thursday 19th November 2020, the membership of the Eureka Cycling Club voted unanimously to join AusCycling at the completion of this calendar year. It was clear that this decision was made in the best interests of veteran cyclists in the region and the broader Victorian cycling community. We are proud to have been a part of Veteran Cycling Victoria, and more broadly the Australian Veteran Cycling Council and we would like to thank both of these associations for their guidance and oversight. However, the members of Eureka Cycling Club have voted clearly in favour of streamlining the management of cycling in the state and across the country and we look forward to working with AusCycling. 10.01.2022 JAKKII’S VIRTUAL CHALLENGE - THIS WEEK! TRAINING REGIMEN - RIDE LOTS AND LOTS NEW BIKE DAY - VIRTUALLY Just one day until Jakkii Dawson embarks on her virtual challenge, riding 10 laps of Alpe du Zwift (over two days).... Whilst this week has been a traditional taper week (meaning less riding), it has still been important to keep the legs moving. Jakkii pulled out the old Jazzercise videos to help keep herself limber and moving whilst off the bike. The last few weeks have all been about preparing mentally for the challenge... Last Friday (9th October) Jak completed five laps of Alpe du Zwift. That equated to 129 kilometres (including 5200 meters of climbing) in 8 hours and 20 minutes. Big day in the saddle! The previous week, Jakkii rode four laps of the circuit on TWO consecutive days (1st and 2nd of October). A whopping six and a half hours of riding on each day! Jakkii recounts ‘I spend so long on the trainer that the app (Zwift) changes from day to night. I got to see the Aurora lights!’ Jakkii has certainly left no stone unturned in her preparation for this epic stage ride, consisting of five laps on Thursday and five laps on Friday. Such has been her training regimen, that Jakkii has completely worn out all her old road tyres and had to purchase a proper indoor trainer tyre! In other exciting news, Jakkii also has a brand new virtual bike for the challenge. She hopes that it lives up to Zwift’s promise that it will be the fastest bike for climbing. Alaya and Iesha have been racing at Bendigo under the tutelage of coach Damien Keirl. The Go Skippy Cycling Team is preparing for another hot summer of track cycling.... Shallan competed at the recent Ballarat RUSH BMX Clubby, which saw riders from as far as Warrnambool travel to participate. Alistair Finlay visited last Sunday’s official return to racing and captured us being Vets for the last time. From 2021 we will be racing as Masters and affiliated with #AUScycling. The full page of cycling in the Ballarat Times, also features a story by Edwina Williams on the junior cycling clinic, which Ballarat Sebastopol CC have been running on Wednesday evenings at Victoria Park. Past and present Eureka members have been involved each week in the FREE junior clinic. Damien Keirl has been lending his vast coaching experience (as he searches for the next track stars like Alaya and Iesha) to assist Chris Liston. Tim Canny, Shaun Martin, Brian Ure and Dave Peters have all helped chaperone the little tackers around the criterium circuit during hot laps.
