25.01.2022 Tasmania Fire Service requests that landholders avoid lighting fires on their properties for at least the next 24 hours due to forecast severe weather condition...s. Fires in these windy conditions will be difficult to control. Fires that have been lit in the past fortnight should be patrolled as the wind increases, even if they are believed to be extinguished.

23.01.2022 Today is International Volunteer Day so we are sending a huge shout out to our 5000 TFS volunteers who give up their time so selflessly. Whether you are one of ...the 3900 who works on the frontline, or the support, junior and cadet members - you all play a vital role in keeping the community safe and you answer the call when you are needed. For that we thank you! Tag your favourite vollie here and give them a shout out!

23.01.2022 On Saturday we welcomed Bruce and Alicia back from N.S.W, along with 16 of our TFS colleagues. Being able to stand back and watch them as they got of the plane and listen to their experiences over there only reinforced to me what a special group of people I get to work with. The Brigade are so proud of the effects Bruce, Alicia and all of the TFS members are putting in on the mainland. From, Brigade Chief Grant Rigby

23.01.2022 Yesterday two of our members headed off to NSW with 16 other TFS members to help control the fires over there. We wish them safe travels and return.

18.01.2022 Name: Jacinta (Jac) Sinclair Position: Leading firefighter How long in service? 12 years in TFS - Evandale and 18 months in NSW RFS - Woodstock... Why did you join? Brad (my partner) and I joined the RFS in NSW when we moved to a small village (276 people) in central west NSW. We wanted to get involved in the local community and the RFS brigade was pretty much the only thing happening. It was a great experience where we learnt a lot and made good friends. When we moved to Evandale in 2007 we went to the local brigade in our first week to see if we liked the people here. We're still here! What do you enjoy about being involved? The opportunity to work in a very competent team where each of us is able to to utilise our skills (no matter what level) and we all have each other's back. I even enjoy the more boring long days of fire edge patrol; it's a great opportunity to really get to know people. What have you gained from being a member? A willingness to take a deep breath and keep going well beyond my comfort boundaries. Some hilarious memories. Salt-of-the-earth friends. An MR truck licence and the opportunity to drive a big red truck with flashing lights and siren. The admiration of my elderly aunties. An appreciation of just how versatile a 4WD truck can be in the most interesting places. About me: 53yo part-time chaplain and poet; love walking the dog (and husband); kayaking and reading; enjoy being on the fire truck with husband and 20yo son.

16.01.2022 Critical reminder to check and maintain your fire place before lighting up this cold winter. Stay Safe

14.01.2022 Cleaning the lint filter on your clothes dryer every time you use it is a small act, but lint is flammable and a fire can start easily in a dryer if it isn’t cleaned.

11.01.2022 Hazard icons across the country have a new consistent look. The new Australian Warning System introduces several changes to the way the community will be notifi...ed about hazards. We're rolling out the first stage of the changes to the Australian Warning System for bushfire in Tassie today. The changes will include the way bushfire warnings are displayed on the TFS website. From today, consistent colours will be used for: Advice (yellow), Watch and Act (orange); and Emergency Warning (red) The icon shapes will also change on maps from diamonds to triangles. While the colours and icons change, the meanings of the levels do not change. The changes are designed to bring consistency to the way warnings are displayed across Australia. Over time more states will use the new colours and icons and they will be used for other hazards like floods and storms. Further changes will occur in Tasmania in 2021, including enhancements to our warning messages. The Australian Warnings System is based on community research and good practice, in terms of what communities recognise and what gets people to take action during an emergency.

11.01.2022 We're taking a break from our member profiles to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Thank-you all for your amazing support and kind regards this past year. Stay safe and have fun

01.01.2022 Tasmania Fire Service has declared an end to the fire permit statewide from 2am tomorrow (Thursday 26 March). This means that anyone in Tasmania intending to li...ght a private fuel reduction burn will no longer require a fire permit to do so. Even though permits are no longer required, landowners who plan to light burns on their property should: be mindful of the weather be prepared with an adequate water supply have access to firefighting equipment be physically capable consult with the owners of neighbouring properties, particularly those with vulerable crops such as vineyards. This update brings the north and south in line with the north west which had the permit period revoked a fortnight ago. At all times burning on private property is governed by local council by-laws which must be adhered to and environmental laws which govern smoke emissions. Property owners planning to burn on their land should visit fire.tas.gov.au for further information. Call 1800 000 699 to register their burn to prevent an unnecessary visit from a local brigade.
