22.01.2022 A new post on the blog. Thinking about our energy usage! https://evansbasecamp.wordpress.com/2020/08/27/energy/
21.01.2022 We designed the bathroom to feel in touch with the outdoors. So one side of the shower is a full length window next to a glass door. Last night we had our first ‘Peeping Tom’. He was pretty cute so we let him stay. On a functionality note, the door works well to let muddy kids into the house through the shower where they can rinse before muddying the floors. It also optimises ventilation and sunlight so the shower dries out quickly, helping to mitigate damp and mould. We’ll... put in an outdoor shower one day. . . . #showerbuddy #greentreefrog #showerdesign #showergoals #indooroutdoorshower #showerwithaview #sustainablehousedesign #rainforestblock #basecamp @ Kuranda, Queensland See more
19.01.2022 Welcome to Base Camp! This page is about sharing our experience in the hope we can have some useful discussions and help some likeminded people on their own design journey.
18.01.2022 The last of the winter afternoon sun warming up the lounge room floor. Soon enough we’ll be avoiding the suns rays rather than following them around the house! New blog post on design for energy consumption > https://evansbasecamp.wordpress.com/2020/08/27/energy/ How much do you use?
17.01.2022 Hello Wallabies! We are lucky to be surrounded by rainforest and share our land with wildlife. While a few trees were cleared, we kept our impact minimal by keeping the house small. This is something everyone can do, even on a suburban block. Small build = less resources taken to build. Added benefits are more space to regenerate nature previously cleared and less to clean and maintain! Oh and less time at work to pay for it Not everyone will have wallabies, but everyone can have birds and bees #basecamp #sustainabledesign #sustainablehousedesign #greendesign #greenhomesaustralia #wallabies

08.01.2022 Found this new angle of the house from the girls cubby/treehouse. Not a bad place to isolate in - you wouldn’t even know there is a world crisis going on. Feeling very grateful. 06.01.2022 Just a quick reminder about a valuable resource! September 20, 2020 is Sustainable House Day (SHD). It is being run a bit differently this year due to COVID-19 and will all be online. There are a number of virtual tours and webinars being streamed, filled with information about sustainable design and building for new homes, renovations, gardens and a whole lot more. 05.01.2022 Thank you to our builders for a great job of bringing our design to life!
02.01.2022 One of the design criteria for Base Camp was seamless connection to the outdoors. We know that being connected to nature is good for our mental health, adults and kids, but it also makes a perceptively small space feel much larger than it is. During the design process we had countless discussions on whether our living space would be large enough. [ 615 more words ] http://evansbasecamp.com/2020/09/10/outdoor-connection/
