24.01.2022 To celebrate NAIDOC 2020, our Solid Ground Group recorded a music video for a song written in collaboration with our artist in residence Emma Donovan and choreographer Neville Boney. The song entitled Strong Feeling was generously translated by Darug elder Aunty Edna Watson. The video was also featured in Blacktown City Council's NAIDOC virtual showcase. #NAIDOC2020 #alwayswasalwayswillbe

21.01.2022 Celebrating NAIDOC is an integral event in the calendar at Evans High School. We are fortunate to be part of a vibrant Aboriginal community here in Blacktown and have amazing Aboriginal leaders within both the staff and student body of the school. While we were unable to hold our regular festivities due to COVID-19, we have still managed to hold a variety of activities including lessons developed and delivered by our Aboriginal students with the support of their mentor Kooper... Martin; a poster competition; and boomerang and spear throwing classes organised by Ms Pagett. This concert concludes our NAIDOC celebration and reminds us that Aboriginal Education is a shared responsibility of both First Nations students and their non-Indigenous friends. Here you will see items by the Solid Ground group led by mentors Emma Donovan and Neville Williams Boney and Dr Fienberg’s Year 11 Music Class ably assisted by Mr Chapman and Ms Liku. Throughout the concert you will be introduced to amazing First Nations artists and have the opportunity to learn more about Country, the continuity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural expression and the meaning behind each song. We hope you enjoy the concert and remember that Evans High School is built on the lands of the Warwarrwarry People from the Darug Nation. This Always Was and Always Will Be Aboriginal Land. See more
