24.01.2022 Sold 3 works at Nolan Gallery at Salamanca in the last week.It is wonderful to have an outlet in Hobart.... and a top gallery it is. So professional. Thank you Betty Nolan for having faith in me.... I am really pleased that is rewarded with sales for us.

24.01.2022 Living in Tasmania Australia is wonderful. Being an island, we have a "moat", no COVID for ages after an early scare in the Northwest here, and the most magnificent sunsets (for almost 2 hours tonight) at my local beach in Ulverstone. (And a huge dump of snow in the hills and mountains today). http://evantart.com/2020/08/04/tasmania-beach-sunset/

23.01.2022 I have some Iceland poppies out so picked them before the wind and rain ruin them. Painting bigger so using a 2 inch brush. No drawing just fluid strokes with a loaded brush... brush painting style. On cheap paper... cartridge so no fiddling or it gets a hole in it.

22.01.2022 I was walking through my watercolour studio to do something... not sure what.... but got distracted by my home made watercolours calling out to me (only I can hear them). Had to play... the painting subject is pretty ordinary but look closely at the granulation and sedimenting of the colours. That is the magic for me.

22.01.2022 Clouds.... skyscape.... subject of Tuesday's watercolour sessiom

22.01.2022 I almost forgot about my nomination by Ferri Lee to post 10 art posts that have a positive vibe. Autumn is a colourful month so here is "Autumn SAplash", watercolour, number 1 off my 10. I know Anne Dunham has heaps of lovely works so I nominate Anne Dunham to do the same. Thanks Ferrelith Lee for the nomination

22.01.2022 Tired after the Craft Fair over the weekend just gone. But it went really well. I was a so lucky with my spot, plenty of visitors, lots of chats, good sales...... loved it!!! Thanks to Keith for help set up and dismantle and to various people who gave me a toilet break!.... and of course to the organisers, Tammy and Latrobe Apex.

21.01.2022 Someone wanted a couple of blue owls for Christmas gifts. Hand painted using alcohol inks. Some landscape-ish some abstracted. Transparent paints... lovely in the sun. Direct from the studio $20.

21.01.2022 Watercolour inspiration at Buttons Beach this afternoon.

21.01.2022 SATURDAY 12 Sept (12th is not a Sunday). Sorry.

21.01.2022 Today I ran an Encaustic painting workshop. My first in the new gallery/workshop space. Loved it. We will have a session exploring together one Monday each month as all the participants enjoy to many possibilities the medium offers. I have the space.... it is perfect to have people with whom to share.

20.01.2022 Busy day putting in fenceposts. Wont paint them all in. I hope to "plant" trees tomorrow but off for a walk now.

20.01.2022 It has been a while since I have been out with my "stuff". We are lucky in Tassie and the Latrobe art and craft event still went ahead.... counting people in, police checking all was OK, mostly people being careful. Well done to Tammy and the other organisers... so much more stressful for them this year.

19.01.2022 Finished... just need to get the commissioners to review then seal if approved.

18.01.2022 And some more from todays encaustic painting session

18.01.2022 I think it is finished.... "In golden light"

18.01.2022 As I said, after my gallery opening I would work solidly to finish commissions. First this oil... need to go to Victoria so I must finish for it to cure. Will review tomorrow then send image to Hugh who commissioned this.

17.01.2022 WIP .. How appropriate on a rainy day. Getting with the mood.

17.01.2022 For those who could not get to the opening. My new Gallery. Feeling fortunate. A dream fulfilled. This post showing the entrance and northern wall.

16.01.2022 Finished another commissioned work. Bold as per instructions... acrylic on stretched canvas. Based on Deonport Bluff lighthouse but plenty of artistic licence. It will live in Queensland if the lady who commissioned it is happy with it. If not it will be in my exhibition at Wonders of Wynyard in October. "Catching the Light"

16.01.2022 I love making artists books. In my Tasmanian travelling exhibition of miniatures which was shown at this Gallery some years ago I had some handmade books. Looking at this today I want to revisit this art activity that I loved. You should try it too. Good clear instructions and lovely examples here.

16.01.2022 Day 2 of 10 for positive art images. This watercolour is a rural view in NE Tassie. Nominated by Ferrelith Lee. I nominate Michelle Smith to join in

14.01.2022 Starting to hang some works in my gallery ... getting ready for Sunday 22nd opening.

13.01.2022 An elbow greeting to a long time artist friend yesterday.... Terri. What a lovely surprise.

13.01.2022 Rasa is a fellow Maker at Burnie Makers Workshop. Call in today to see her lovely work. P.S. I will be there tomorrow (one day only) with a little display in Studio 8.

13.01.2022 Day 6 of 10 day creative challenge from nomination by Susan Kennerley. Encaustic wax medium. Today I nominate Margaret Coombes to take up the 10 day challenge

13.01.2022 I have just has new mugs printed with wrap around images from paintings I have done of my island home, Tasmania. I am very happy with them. Every one with a different image. http://evantart.com/2020/11/14/coffee-anyone-tasmania-mugs/

12.01.2022 A larger watercolour using the watercolour paints we made yesterday. Not what I thought I was going to do but it is what it wanted to be. We have had a lot of yellow in those sunsets... i think that influenced me. I am not a yellow person but this yellw ochre is lovely. Colours lift well to get the mist effects.

12.01.2022 More tulips for my Wonders of Wynyard exhibition during tulip time and their spring celebrations. Exhibition 2 October to 29 October. No opening as I did not want to patrol safe spacing.

12.01.2022 As I am sure you are aware I have been taking a lot of sunset photos lately. I love the photos but rarely am inspired to paint them with as intense colour as I feel the paintings look "fake"/over the top. On my blog I just came across this from years ago. Acrylic, very vivid and (apart from a blurred photo of it) I do like it even though sit iso intense. Chasm creek, near Burnie, Tasmania.

10.01.2022 It is months since I have done any of these bangles. Each individually painted using my own unique technique with encaustic wax medium.

10.01.2022 I had been looking at this for a couple of days and talked to Keith and my lovely watercolour ladies. Decided it needed a bit more work.... mainly on tone to increase the illusion of depth and emphasise the colours in the main tree. A critical factor for the commissioner. Much happier now. Being oil I am hoping it will cure in time to send for Christmas.

09.01.2022 I really challenged the ladies at watercolour class yesterday. Waterfalls are not easy. Next week flowers. Then if they are frustrated we go back to a landscape with those lovely broad washes... more relaxing to do.

09.01.2022 The artist/ the scientist. How I love to experiment. Making my own watercolours from pure pigment. First I made raw Sienna. I already knew the different brands of raw Sienna varied a lot in hue so I did a colour swatch of "Evelyn brand" and 3 other brands of artist quality. Then I used some of mine with sky blue ultramarine from Maimeri. Not sure what paper but wow the sedimentation was magic. Then I made "Evelyn Brand" Ultramarine. The raw sienna was made 2 days ago and rewet well. They both behave as watercolour should. Loving it.

09.01.2022 WIP. While getting the gallery ready for opening on Sunday week I have also been working on this commission. Oil mainly done with palette knife and fingers. Still a lot of trees to put in and more work on snow shadowing... gotta get a wriggle on for it to cure and post pre Christmas. Number 1 priority now!

07.01.2022 "Guardian of the forest jewels", is off to Debbie in Brisbane. Tasmanian fungi from Arm River. I was painting a light sepia background with the Blechnum fern and a waterfall when the old bearded man appeared so I stopped. When Debbie saw this work she immediately saw the "Guardian". I was so pleased as others could not decipher him even when shown..... I have had the work a number of years so it is a bit of a sad goodbye. Love this watercolour but I know it is going to a very special home. On its way Debbie.

06.01.2022 The full saw. Showing the dimensions of the painting area ... not easy compositionally but I managed to incorporate the plough as requested.

06.01.2022 I hope this is a better likeness to my latest watercolour. I loved the light reflected off the water channels in the tidal areas and the light on Dial Range. Can't help it, I love pretty

06.01.2022 This was a class demo a couple of weeks ago. I was not happy with it so decided to try out some NEW TECHNIQUES on it. Happier now. ..... lots of interesting things going on including use of a little Pearlex on the sand area to suggest the light sparkle and sunrays done with weak bleedproof white. Usually I lift out while damp but these were done after the work had been sitting a couple of weeks. What better way to spend a wet dreary day.

05.01.2022 In October I will be having an exhibition at Wonders of Wynyard. Although the Tulip Festival will not happen, the tulips will still do their thing. Wynyard+ tulips + art= a watercolour of tulips. I often tend to build my composition as I go. A strange way of working but I enjoy that as I never know what I will end up with.... like travelling without a pre-set itinerary.

05.01.2022 As promised... a second wall of my new gallery. Along the back wall, and bench top. A short wall with a window which showcases a lovely man fern outside. Tune in for the Southern wall soon.

05.01.2022 I just bought this artwork that my artist, niece did. Resin. Love it. Thank you Kristy Grant. Aopprox 85 cm diameter!

04.01.2022 This wonderful article Science and art was emailed tom by Caroline Smith this morning. Iamsure someofmy other friends will appreciate it .....

03.01.2022 Back to a commission piece I started a few weeks ago. Scarlet Robin and Correa reflexa. Slow progress. Not sure how many flowers I will do. Need to finish the robins feet and his branch. Not sure about a background. Probably not unless the paper gets too many spots of paint. Most commissions are not of the fluid work I do for my own relaxation and creativity. I call this illustrative watercolour. I do enjoy this way of working too .... more like my first watercolours many years ago. I will print some cards of it if it turns out.

03.01.2022 Yes... quarter sheet watercolour done with hake brush. Yes "my" beach (Buttons Beach Ulverstone, Tasmania). I missed the similar one I sold so did another... never the same but similar. Laura Phillips

02.01.2022 Tuesdays watercolour class demo finished.... "change: Ulverstone"

02.01.2022 Today's class.... sunset over the Leven... still a few finishing touches needed. Thank you Shauna for the photo reference

01.01.2022 More tulips... for my October exhibition at Wonders of Wynyard. This one was not what I originally planned but not many of mine are. They evolve.
