23.01.2022 In May this year we called our wedding off. We decided with the way things were heading that we wouldn’t be able to have the wedding we had planned. And we were right. We always knew that my brothers and sister-in-law weren’t going to be able to get here from Canada, but we never would have guessed that 6 months down the track, all our best mates, Alex’s family and even my sister who is only two hours away in Byron would still be locked out. But we’re doing it anyway! On the ...10th of October Alex and I will be celebrating our 11th anniversary and will be saying our vows. Everything we’ve ever planned has been thrown out the window. The plans have changed a zillion times and we’re still waiting to see what the restrictions will be when October rolls around. The best thing about all this is it’s really taken the pressure off. After 15 years on and off in Melbourne and trying to shoot winter campaigns in 40’c and summer beach shoots in 13’c, I cannot tell you how much I love working in this climate. It’s so damn consistent!!! This beautiful mumma wanted an outdoor, golden hour feel to her images and again the weather delivered. 20.01.2022 This is one of my favourite bully stories... The creator of Lamborghini S.p.A. originally owned a tractor company, Lamborghini Trattori S.p.A., which produced tractors from surplus military hardware after World War II. He decided to get into making cars as a result of frustrations he had with a Ferrari he had purchased which ultimately resulted in him being insulted by Enzo Ferrari, the founder of the famed Ferrari brand car company. After the war agriculture became huge in... his area and his tractor business boomed. He had always been very interested in engines and as such he was becoming rather wealthy from his tractors, building around one tractor a month. As a car lover and wealthy entrepreneur, Lamborghini owned a number of sports cars, with the Ferrari 250 GT being one of them. At a certain point, Lamborghini became frustrated with problems he had with the clutch in his Ferrari. He then went to visit Enzo Ferrari. The world may have never had the famous Lamborghini super cars that were to follow had Enzo Ferrari not answered Ferruccio’s complaints with the problem is not with the car but with driver! and went on to advise him to look after his tractors instead. For a mechanical genius and Italian, this kind of answer was not only insulting but an open challenge. 17.01.2022 It was pouring down the day we did this shoot. It was supposed to be a beach shoot and by that morning it was very apparent that was not happening. I couldn’t have been more chuffed. The images we got in Gracie and Kristian’s home were so incredibly beautiful. The light was gorgeous and soft, we got to change outfits comfortably and now they have these beautiful images for little Leo to look back on and see where they lived and what they looked like when he came into their wo...rld. 14.01.2022 Beautiful mumma’s everywhere right now! When you have a baby there is normally loads of support. People popping over with casseroles, grandma taking care of bub for a couple of hours so mum can get some sleep, friends gooing and gahhing, offering you some adult conversation, love and support out of your breastfeeding haze. This year has been different. 2020 has brought with it a tonne of challenges for everyone, but for new Mum’s who don’t have people popping around, no doula...s to support them, husbands who aren’t able to come to scans... I want you to hang in there and also know, you got one of the biggest gifts of all... time. Time at home with your new family. Never before have so many dads been able to be present with their new families for such extended amounts of time. It has been a real gift for our men and the women they love. 2020 may have taken from us but it has also given us so much! As a new pawrent I have loved being able to be so present in my new puppies life and when she is doing something funny (or super naughty) I can include Alex in that journey. 11.01.2022 It’s feel good Friday and cute little bundles of goodness always make me feel good. Did you know there are even tips I can give you before a newborn shoot to make it run more smoothly so we can get those beautiful sleeping shots like little Sophie? After shooting newborns for nearly 7 years now, I can tell you there are some fun little tricks to get these tiny humans to do what we want on the day.... There are also a lot of myths around only being able to photograph newborns in the first two weeks. It’s true there are photographers out there that say that, but it’s total codswallap! You can photograph these tiny humans at any stage and they all come out different. FACT: If you come in the first two weeks they haven’t really figured out they’re out of the womb yet and you can get those super curled up photos. But let’s face it babies are still cute when their giggling up at you at three months too! FACT: Around day 10 they cluster feed, which is feeding every 15-30 mins and that can be super tough when trying to settle them for a photoshoot. I do try to book before day 7 or after three weeks. After 6 weeks is even better because they are a bit more settled. FACT: In Victoria babies tend to do a whole body peel around two weeks so their skin can look a bit funny. In QLD they tend not to do this and usually only do their hands and feet. I imagine it’s because there is more moisture in the air. FACT: I have still photographed babies going through all of these stages. Everything from 1 week old to 95 years old. 08.01.2022 One of the coolest things about my job is being around people in some of the most exciting times of their lives. I get to feel their reverence for how special their life is. Whether that is growing a new life, the first weeks of their babies life, learning to walk... you get the picture. Maternity is the most magical. They stick with me. It’s the precipice. I wonder about how they are going. Whether it was a boy or girl. Where they were when they went into labour. What their ...story looked like for them and how it’s going now. Then if I’m really lucky I get to photograph their newborn shots and start to help tell that story for them. Forever remembering these first special moments and how alive they felt. How in love they were in those first moments. This beautiful woman is one of my best friends in the whole world and is on my mind everyday at the moment. She is there, in that moment where it all shifts to the next chapter. I can’t wait to meet my new little niece and hear about the beautiful journey that brought her to us, whatever that looks like. 04.01.2022 FUN FACTS 1. I actually love fun facts, the weirder the better, if you scroll down my Instagram there is quite a few and I’ll be bringing these back soon! 2. I can’t stand Pinot noir, I think it’s watered down wine and I’ve had this argument with some of the best sommeliers in the country. 3. Everything I once thought was going to happen at my wedding is not at all happening now. No high heels, no dancing, no outdoor ceremony, no best friends standing at my side, it’s all a b...it weird - but I’m still super excited about it. 4. I used to be very good at fire twirling, I was even paid to perform in front of crowds at events and even used to have a 1.5mtr sword and a skipping rope that both use to light up. I started because I loved the sound of the flames by my head. 5. And for all those new followers, my name is Marigold. My dad was a horticulturist and it was his favourite flower. He used to plant them all up and down the east coast when he was traveling with my mum on a Ducati motorbike with a guinea pig in their early 20’s.
