20.01.2022 My embarrassing moment with a fitness influencer If you live in Australia you’ve no doubt heard of Michelle Bridges. Michelle rose to fame in the early 2000s as the no BS trainer on the TV show, The Biggest Loser.... Known for her hard nose tactics and being a hater of excuse, you could argue with her methods but you can’t argue with her results. Love her or hate her she is now best known for her very successful 12-week transformation challenge done by tens of thousands each year. I’d even done the program myself after having my second baby, so you could imagine my delight when I found out that I was going to be speaking at the same event she was. In fact, I squealed with delight when I saw the promotional material and my face was next to hers. Yes! I had something that I could talk to her about in the green room, you know that fancy place where the talent (excuse me, fancy right?) hangs out before they are needed. Well, I was on before Michelle and to my absolute fan-girl delight I got to meet her in person. I was all nervous, got sweaty and blanked on what to say (I know but there is a first time for everything) And do you know what she said to me... ‘Oh, you are the nozzle girl’ Not, ‘I recognise your face being next to me on the giant posters’ Not, ‘your that copywriter that makes her clients squillions’ Nope. She remembered me from the story I told on stage about my husband's plumbing invention and how we overcame the doubters to sell a trade nozzle (that competes with a free product) in over 27 countries even after some of our friends thought we were crazy and laughed in our face. Because here is the thing. Although she may have seen my face, she remembered my story. Your story is what makes you memorable. The emotions, the challenges, the journey, everything. It makes you unique, believable, trustworthy. You become uncomparable, even if you are in a flooded marketplace. 12.01.2022 But Eve, I got negative feedback! I hear this a lot. It is one of the main reasons why someone hasn’t published their marketing, hasn’t ran a campaign or begun their launch.... And here is the thing Negative feedback happens and you should take it onboard BUT! You have to consider the context in which it came. Just last week I was asked for feedback on a social media video. To me, it looked like an old corporate pat on the back. One of those 'look at us' and how good we are! A 5 minute self-promotional video with nothing remarkable, nothing eye catching, nothing of interest being talked about. The lack of engagement on the video indicated to me that the audience felt the same about it. And when I was asked my opinion on it, I told them that. I gave negative feedback. And someone was rather disappointed with my negative feedback. But here is the thing. Opinions (just like marketing) are subjective. Feedback is important, but so is context. Was I the ideal client that this video was created for? Probably not. Were they going to do anything with my feedback moving forward? Probably not. Do they know that I am actually qualified to give feedback on this type of thing because of what I do for work? Again, probably not. The lesson? The next time you get any negative feedback, I want you to ask yourself: Was the person who gave you negative feedback your ideal client? Because if they weren’t, thank them, smile and do whatever the hell you were going to do anyway.

02.01.2022 Mirror, Mirror, On The Wall, is it worth having the most #Insta followers of all? Okay, it is not quite the original quote from Disney’s Snow White, but you get the idea. What’s it got to with social media?... Well, I recently had a client come to me to help with a collaboration she was doing with an influencer, someone with over 1.2 million Instagram followers. Working with both women, the influencer was able to earn over $10,000 in affiliate in fees from it and my client's more. All in all it was a success all-round. Afterwards, the influencer disclosed to me that the $10,000 was the most amount she had made in a month ever! I was super happy for her, but I have to admit I wasn’t surprised. She has over a million followers. So why? Because the amount of the followers you have on social media does not always have a direct correlation to your sales. For most people, social media fans and followers are a vanity metric. It tells you surface information, reflecting back what you can see from the outside #thequeensmirror Yes, having a social media following is a great way to grow your business. And it can certainly lead to sales. But you need to get them off social media and into a direct conversation with you, either in person or via sales message. You need them to be on a media YOU control, your email list, in your contacts or in your membership site. How do you do this, without looking like one of those desperate ugly sisters? 1) Create content that leads directly into the services that you offer 2) Use a Call To Action to help move them from FAN to CLIENT Need more help with your call actions, the video pinned to the top of this page can help.
