25.01.2022 Golden Queen peaches are in store now. These Beautiful golden coloured peaches are by far the best tasting peaches and my personal favourite. Golden queen peaches are used to make what we all know and love in a tin peach.... Be quick as the are only available for a short time.
25.01.2022 As we are approaching the holiday season, it is time to spice up your cooking with a range of seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables. Sweet-eating glossy red cherries from Victoria are in good supply. Cherries are perfect for picnics, lunchbox treats or a festive family feast. Wash before eating or cooking and keep them in a covered container. White and yellow-fleshed nectarines and peaches are eating beautifully. Prices may vary depending upon sizes. Blood plums have also made... an appearance in the Markets; however, supply is forecasted to increase as the season progresses. In peak season right now are juicy and fragrant apricots from Victoria. Enjoy them as a snack, make desserts or blend them to make a glistening chutney to accompany spicy Indian curries as apricots are known to temper the heat of dishes. The mango season rolls on with many varieties available for you to choose from including R2E2, Kensington Pride and Honey Gold. Pair mangoes with prawns, cucumber, onion, coriander, and chillies for a Thai-inspired summer salad. Whip up a great-tasting smoothie from well-supplied fruit such as bananas, apples, strawberries and blueberries. Also in good supply is Queensland-grown pawpaws, especially the red variety. Arriving from New South Wales are valencia oranges. Perfect for the tropics, this late variety is known for juicing. Valencia oranges are sweet, have a smooth, thin skin and contain few seeds. Other great value buys include pineapple, corella pears, watermelon and dragonfruit. Passionfruit are in light supply. In vegies, all varieties of tomatoes are in great supply including truss, roma, mini and heirloom. Mild-tasting zucchini, button squash and eggplants are all in good supply and calling out for a ratatouille. If you are hunting for a good deal, beetroot, carrots and parsnips are fantastic value at the moment, along with potatoes, onions and pumpkins. Roast them with garlic, toss with spinach and feta and you have got yourself a nutrient-packed roasted veggie salad. Transform any recipe with a choice of herbs including well-supplied mint, parsley, chives, thyme and coriander. Local veggies in good supply include cauliflower, cucumbers, and broccoli. Enjoy the flush of spring vegetables which include asparagus, spring onions, green beans, snow peas, spinach, kale, lettuce and rocket and all represent great value. This week’s top pick is blackberries currently coming from New South Wales. Blackberries are becoming popular by the year. Blackberries are sweet, juicy, small, ovals made up of rounded drupelets. Be sure to choose blackberries that are plump, firm and uniform in colour. They are delicious eaten as is or excellent in pies, tarts, jams and sauces.

17.01.2022 We are seeing high-quality, well-priced fruit arriving from multiple regions, including Victorian strawberries, apricots and pears, sweet pawpaws from Far North Queensland, dragon fruit from Northern Territory, passionfruit from New South Wales as well as local pineapples and bananas . Blueberries continue to impress with their quality while new season blackberries are also in stock but will need to be ordered, so enjoy them while you can. The stone fruit season is ramping up... with white and yellow varieties of nectarines and peaches increasing in supply along with plums. For an easy, ready to go dessert try seasonal tart with thinly sliced stone fruit of your choice enclosed in golden flaky pastry. Serve sugar-dusted tart along with a scoop of ice-cream and roasted nuts. Apple varieties, including Red Delicious and Granny Smith, are excellent eating and in good supply. Cherries and lychees are looking beautiful however prices are variable. We are in-between season for mangoes as we have come to an end of the Kensington Pride supplies from Northern Territory whereas R2E2 from Bowen and Honey Gold variety are available. There will be more Queensland mangoes available by next week. Several veggies are fantastic buying this week including handpicked beans from Gympie, red and green capsicum, cauliflower, broccoli, celery and zucchini. Onions from Gatton and sweet potatoes from Bundaberg are abundant right now. Sweet potatoes never get enough credit. Not only they are a form of slow-releasing carbohydrates, but are also extremely high in Vitamin A, C and B6. Pair any main course with ultra-rich and creamy sweet potato mash. Add butter, grated ginger to boiled sweet potatoes and mash until smooth. Season to taste. On the salad front, Victorian-grown fennel, spinach, rocket, watercress, kale, Iceberg and baby cos lettuce are having a great week. Also, look out for well-supplied spring winners such as eggplants, beetroot, mushrooms, leeks, spring onions and asparagus all coming in great quality and value. Carrots from Western Australia, Continental cucumbers and radishes are in plentiful supplies to accompany summer dips and crudité platters. This week’s top pick is seedless watermelon. Look for fruit that feels heavy for its size and has a vibrant colour. Watermelon is a refreshing snack made up of 92% of water but soaked with nutrition. Store watermelons in the fridge once ripe. To test for ripeness, give it a tap, whole watermelons should sound hollow when tapped. Surprisingly versatile, watermelons are great performers in both sweet and savoury salads. For an ultimate refreshing spring salad, combine grilled watermelon chunks with prawns, olive oil, feta, mint and thinly sliced onions. Add salt to taste.

10.01.2022 Stone fruits are a must-buy this week. Delicious nectarines and peaches, arriving mostly from Victoria are in excellent supply. They can be preserved in syrup and are perfect for fruit compotes, upside-down cakes and crumbles. Don’t miss out on sweet candy plums that are eating beautifully too, Apricots and Tasmanian cherries are in short season and will last only until January so grab them while you can. With plentiful supplies of mangoes, why not try your hand at making so...me frozen mango bars? Blend diced mangoes, sugar syrup, thickened cream and lemon juice until smooth. Pour mixture into a pan lined with baking paper, sprinkle over shredded coconut (optional) and freeze until firm. Once done, use a knife to cut into rectangular bars, enjoy! Queensland rockmelons and watermelons are also available in good supply along with fresh red pawpaw from Far North Queensland. Other great buys this week include tangy passionfruit, strawberries, blueberries, limes, pink lady apples, exotic dragon fruit and valencia oranges from Tharbogang, New South Wales. Avocados are priced at a premium and pineapples are in moderate supply. When it comes to veggies, supplies of broccoli, cauliflower, snow peas, celery and silverbeet have been affected due to the high humidity and heat. Also priced at a premium are local lettuce. On the flip side, beans, pumpkins, cucumbers and eggplants are in plentiful supply, while root vegetables such as onions, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and beetroot represent good buying. Are you looking for a low-carb alternative to pasta? The spaghetti squash makes a great addition to bolognese sauce, gratin or lasagne. Slice the squash in half, scoop out the seeds and roast it facing down in a baking dish with a little water for 30- 45 minutes. Use a fork to separate the flesh into noodles and serve with your choice of sauce. Stock up pasta sauces as we are noticing bumper supplies of tomatoes including truss, roma, cherry, mini and heirloom varieties. The standout herbs this week are coriander and parsley. Look for fresh-looking green leaves and stems, avoiding wilted or discoloured leaves. This week’s top pick is the exotic fig, with plentiful supplies from South Kolan, Queensland. Figs range from bright green to a deep purple exterior, with the inner flesh being bright red. Choose soft figs that give a little when pressed. Rich in vitamins and a good source of fibre, figs are great as a snack or can be added to jams, salads or desserts.
