25.01.2022 Puppy Buyer’s Guide Before considering a British Bulldog or French Bulldog please remember that a Bulldog should share your home with you and your family by be...ing both inside your home and out in the yard. This breed does not do well at all with being just a back yard dog. In Australia, the world recognised body for registered breeders is the ANKC Australian National Kennel Council. Each state has its own kennel control council (eg Dogs Victoria, Dogs NSW, Dogs QLD, etc), and the ANKC is the parent organisation that each state council belongs to. ANKC breeders are only allowed to breed pure-bred dogs and have to conform to a code of ethics that is established by the ANKC covering caring for dogs, breeding, ongoing support to buyers, etc. To purchase a pure-bred pedigreed dog, your breeder and the litter of pups need to be ANKC registered. Buying a pedigree puppy does not mean you have to show your pup, it just gives you peace of mind that you are buying from a breeder who has agreed to follow a strict code of ethics, and that your pup is, in fact, a pure-bred dog. Your breeder will have an ANKC Breeder number, ask them for the number or check with the state kennel control (eg, Dogs Victoria). Breeders are required to list their state canine control membership numbers in any advertising of puppies that they do. Although most ANKC registered breeders are breeding for the betterment of the breed, there are some that flaunt the system. Hence the importance of taking your time and thoroughly researching potential breeders. Health & temperament are the two most important factors in your choice of a puppy. If possible, meet the parents or at least the mother before choosing your puppy. A puppy MUST NOT leave its family/breeder until at least 8 weeks old. Crate training is acceptable to keep puppy safe. Ask to see the pedigree papers of the parents, they will be blue papers. Papers should NOT cost you extra, and pups MUST be sold with pedigree papers. The pedigree papers belong to the dog, and breeders cannot sell pups without papers. If the paperwork is missing, that’s a red flag. You should be given information on feeding and training. You should be given vaccination certificates & worming schedules. A good breeder will enjoy discussing the breed with you, sharing puppy photos, and will be able to supply you with the above information prior to you seeing the puppies. It is not unusual to not be permitted to see the puppies before 6 weeks of age to ensure that visitors do not bring parvo virus or other diseases into their environment unintentionally via their shoes, hands or clothing.

20.01.2022 Unscrupulous breeders are taking you for a ride, they're taking your hard earned money for cross breed dogs you believe are purebred because of Embark DNA testing. Embark testing is a handy tool for families of cross bred rescue dogs to learn more about the 'ancestry' of their dog - it's handy because you get an idea of what breeds are in your dog so you can understand their breed traits better and in-turn get a better idea of how to...Continue reading

09.01.2022 Looking for a puppy like this or know someone who is? DON'T GET SCAMMED! Fraudulent websites and social media posts, advertising puppies, have been published o...nline and unsuspecting victims have been scammed. Tip: make sure the breeder's nationally recognised Dogs Victoria membership is current. Breeders are bound by a Code of Practice inclusive of registration papers for purebred puppy purchases.

05.01.2022 Something to think about for anyone wanting a puppy this goes for all breeds not just Labradors BUT I DON'T WANT A SHOW DOG! Why do people recommend choosing a breeder who shows their dogs to folks who are just looking for a pet and have no interest in showing? Why should breeding to breed standard be important to a pet home? Does it seem excessive, or snobby? ...Continue reading
