15.01.2022 For so long I blamed my weight issues on everything but me. It wasn’t the right time, this diet doesn’t work, I’m working full-time, I just had a baby, my mother in law died ....... yes sure these situations are far from ideal but really the only person standing in my way was ME. I chose to eat copious amounts of junk food, I chose to not exercise. I chose to make unhealthy choices. It was all on me! I needed to take responsibility for my actions, I needed to stop m...y destructive behaviour, stop my limiting beliefs and get out of my own way. So instead of looking at all the reasons why it’s all too hard to lose weight or make changes, think about the one reason why you can. That reason is: YOU ARE IN CONTROL. YOU ARE ENTIRELY UP TO YOU. 06.01.2022 Happy Monday! So confession time.........I’ve had a bit of a food fest of late, time spent away, school holidays, and to be honest a little bit of emotional eating. Over the years I’ve come to realise that I will probably never ever 100% recover from my food addiction, but I’ve done a great job in managing it. ... How? Well, by becoming more self aware so that when I succumb to a craving I am able to pick myself up very quickly from a ‘fall’ or an ‘oops moment’ - I really attribute a big part of my maintenance success to that. I’ve also come to realise that when I was at my biggest (123kg) I was in a terrible cycle of staying down for months on end after a ‘fall.’ I cannot stress enough how important it is after that ‘oops moment’ to quickly pick yourself up, brush yourself off, stop the self-loathing, be kind to yourself, reach out for support, feel those feelings and move on. 01.01.2022 Happy Monday! Hope you had a great weekend. Good food, good mood ...... so true! I know when I fill my body with nutritious food I feel energised, strong and physically well. ... On the other hand, when I over do the processed food and sugar I feel like absolute cr*p. I get that hungover feeling - like I have been out on the town all night. I don’t sleep well, I get lethargic, which in turn affects my mood - and not in a good way!!!! Research in nutrition proves that the foods we eat can affect our brain & our body’s chemicals DIRECTLY. Vitamin B12, for example (found in animal sources ie. eggs, milk, meat, shellfish, and poultry) is required for the formation of the mood-boosting neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine. The vitamins and minerals in fruits and vegetables help us to feel better too. For example, chromium, found in broccoli, increases the brains’ level of serotonin, norepinephrine, and melatonin, whichhelp the brain regulate emotion and mood. Fruits and veggies also contain fibre which helps keep us regular. This can greatly contribute to how good we are feeling that day. Omega-3 fatty acids - found in salmon, walnuts, flaxseed, oils provide many benefits. They actually help the neurons in your brain to be able to communicate with each other via synapses therefore improving your memory and your ability to retain information. One form of omega 3’s - DHA (found in salmon) also helps relieve oxidative stress on your body. Oxidative stress is what happens when your body is trying to fight off all of the bad chemicals. By eating these foods, you are actually relieving stress from your body. Therefore contributing to why we ‘feel better’ when we eat these foods. Lastly, my final food for thought...... When you eat nutritious foods, you are filling your body with vitamins and minerals - all of your physiological needs are met.
