19.01.2022 She did not really help fix the pram; she helped us teach her that fixing things is neither a gender- nor age-specific exercise.
17.01.2022 It is not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it... Life is long if you know how to use it.
16.01.2022 My daughter told me that her friend who has short hair is a boy. I explained to her that like boys, girls can have short hair, too, and vice versa; that what is important is they keep their face tidy. I know that it was not going to be the last conversation we will have tackling gender stereotypes. Below is her drawing of herself. What gender stereotype conversation have you had with a youngster? 15.01.2022 I opened this bag of chips last week and it would normally take max 2 nights for this to become part of history. But not this time, not from this time on. I have managed my weight and health through physical activity and moderation of intake - I have not had any particular diet. I consume junk food and that will not change. What will change is how I consume them - with more restraint. I am committing to this change not just to lose my pregnancy pounds but moreso for my family who look up to me and rely on me to be healthy.
12.01.2022 Our daughter has come to an age where she strongly asserts her clothing preferences. While most of her clothes are as cute as they can be, mixing-and-matching them are not always of my liking such as the neon pink socks and blue sandals below. I tried to suggest an alternative but she did not budge. We let her be. We let her be because we did not want to start a needless tantrum. We let her be because allowing her to choose would build her self-esteem. We let her be because it taught her to stand by a decision that felt right for her instead of pleasing someone else, not even Mama and Papa.
01.01.2022 I purchased this lot from a family whose daughter has too many clothes that a good number of these still have tags on, worn once, or not worn at all. Yes, I get second-hand stuff for my children and I am proud of it because: 1) I do not want to spend $$ for items that will be used for only a few months. 2) It is easier not to mind if they do not use some of their clothes if they did not cost a lot.... 3) I don’t worry at all if any of those clothes lose their immaculate condition (heavily soiled, painted on, or used by the little owner to practice cutting skills). Children end up having too much stuff (and using only half of them) because of aimless givinggifting just for the sake of it. Christmas is near and if you plan to give something to a child, ask the parents what the child needs (unless you don’t mind if your present ends up with another child or, worse, in the bin).
