20.01.2022 Wishing you a healthy start to 2018. If that is something you would like to work on I am open for appointments in January. If youre one who has given up on the idea of New Years resolutions a goal is a more achievable way to reach your objective, especially if broken down into baby steps.
20.01.2022 When your stress hormones are constantly raised from daily or chronic stress, your body cannot heal, repair, rejuvenate or restore proper function. It's important to give your body & mind a break - even short moments of relaxation or time out as well as restorative sleep.
19.01.2022 Whatever it is you're trying to achieve in life, remember that small baby steps still count ... progress is still progress
19.01.2022 Making changes that last the distance ... baby steps are realistic and achievable
18.01.2022 Whole food plant based eating is beneficial for all body systems and organs ... enough said
18.01.2022 Something else that has gone viral during the last 12 months is anxiety. It is like any other habit & can be driven in the same way ... through negative reinforcement & the creation of a repeating habit loop. One way to break the cycle is to resist constant negative news stories, social media posts and any other negative influences (which may include family, friends or co-workers ).
16.01.2022 A low cost and easy way to add probiotics to your diet is with sauerkraut. Support your immune system and improve your mood by improving your gut health. 14.01.2022 A positive mind can be still be turbulent ~ especially when we feel pressure to be constantly positive. We are all human and life gets in the way, so aiming for a quiet mind ... even if only for 5-10 minutes a day, might be a more realistic goal and a good place to start.
14.01.2022 Fast food doesn't have to be unhealthy. Leafy greens as a base with pumpkin & beetroot baked in olive oil. Goats cheese for protein & sesame seeds for crunch.
14.01.2022 Regular broccoli consumption demonstrates significant anticancer effects in breast and prostate cancer by stopping the formation of new blood vessels which supply tumours. Including broccoli and/or broccoli sprouts in your diet (several times weekly) can help protect against cancer by lowering the rate of cancer-promoting gene activity and increasing the gene activity associated with beneficial effects. Broccoli enhances the excretion of a form of estrogen that is linke...d with increased breast cancer risk. Eating a wide variety of vegetables and fruit including broccoli (and in particular veggies from the cruciferous family), significantly improves survival rates. If you add in regular exercise - walking 30 minutes a day / 6 days a week, the risk of cancer recurrence can be halved. If you have a prostate cancer diagnosis, eating broccoli regularly is associated with better survival and has the biggest impact of lowering risk of advancement. Naturally occurring compounds in broccoli such as sulphoraphane and glucosinolate, offer beneficial effects on a number of chronic health diseases such as cancer, as well being powerful antioxidants and is also required for efficient liver detoxification of toxic compounds. If you don't like the taste of broccoli, adding broccoli sprouts is a good way to maintain these benefits in your diet, as they contain 30 - 50 times the concentration of protective compounds of a mature broccoli plant.
13.01.2022 3 simple tips to help your digestion during the festive season: 1) Keep up your fruit & vegetables even if you do over indulge this will ensure your liver has the right nutrients to help detoxify your body. 2) Stay well hydrated, drink 23 litres of water daily if drinking alcohol, add a glass of water for every glass of alcohol. Hydration also helps your body to detox.... 3) Keep moving it doesnt matter what you do as incidental movement during the day is as beneficial as a gym workout.
12.01.2022 Consuming smoothies with blended fruit and vegetables is a good way to retain nutrients. The fibre retained also helps stabilise blood sugar levels, contributes to a healthier community of gut bacteria and reduces inflammation. Juicing (which doesn't retain the fibre) may be more favourable if you have ongoing issues with digestion. www.everydayvitality.com.au
12.01.2022 Soy products: Should you include it in your diet or not? Theres been plenty of debate about soy in recent years. This 5 minute video explains the protective mechanisms of consuming soy (equivalent to one cup of soy milk daily) and how it can reduce risk of breast cancer by 29%. If you have cancer, it can reduce risk of recurrence by 36%.
11.01.2022 Epigenetics is the study of mechanisms in the body that will switch genes on and off, how cells 'read' genes and how they are expressed. In many cases, genes are influenced by: environment, lifestyle: dietary habits, activity levels, alcohol & tobacco consumption, psychological influences & thinking style.
11.01.2022 Something we could all do with right now ... an enhanced immune system
10.01.2022 Low carb & protein rich banana bread from 'The Fast 800' recipe book. It's not very often that the end product looks exactly the same as the picture ... I'm surprised & impressed. Thumbs up for an easy everyday recipe ... who wants complicated when you can make something easy like this. This is from the 'Treats' section, but I've had it for breakfast - nice with coffee . It contains a little SR flour, but you could replace that with coconut flour if you can't eat grains - but I would add an extra egg because coconut flour draws in a lot of moisture.
10.01.2022 No 1 mood booster - getting outdoors in nature & exploring somewhere new. Who knows where the path will take you.

08.01.2022 Detoxification is popular for those who want to shed some weight & improve their health. The liver, which is the main organ of detoxification is associated with the emotions anger & irritability according to TCM. When you decide to detox and start too intensely, you can also experience these type of emotions without knowing why. This can be a normal part of the detox effect a physical and emotional cleanse. Ever heard of the saying shitty liver? If you plan a detox, start gently and time it when you are under less pressure. Keep well hydrated, include gentle exercise and most importantly eat enough fibre to ensure you are eliminating efficiently - otherwise you will be re-circulating toxins through your system. 08.01.2022 Motivation during social isolation ... this can be more difficult to do without your usual routine. The less you do, the less you want to do but sometimes you just have to force yourself to take that first step and the rest will follow. However there are times when it can be more beneficial to your body to take a break from over-doing it, rather than forcing yourself to be constantly busy.
08.01.2022 Stay at home but dont stay inside all day. 05.01.2022 Boredom eating is common during social isolation & comforting carbs are often our go-to. Often serotonin deficiency can cause carb cravings & is also a key player in mood and anxiety. There are several ways to increase serotonin levels, improving your general sense of well being.
05.01.2022 Its common to think about making positive changes when the New Year approaches. Giving up smoking is a popular new years resolution for numerous health reasons. Active smoking produces 50 different carcinogens, however second hand smoke contains a complex of 4000 chemicals. Have you heard of third hand smoke? This is the residue that is left on a smokers hair, clothes and furniture which makes it especially dangerous for children who are exposed & may ingest these chemicals. If you plan to give up smoking, put a plan in place to help get you through ... now is the time to make that plan. Work out how you will get support & who can help you - not only will your health benefit, but so will your family & friends.
04.01.2022 Warm rainbow salad - when you feel like a salad but not a cold one. Kept simple by using whatever veggies are in the fridge (beetroot, yellow capsicum, pumpkin). Roasted with olive oil & mixed with rocket & a sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds for crunch & nutty flavour. Dressing is kept simple as there are enough flavours, just olive oil & fresh lemon juice. Getting a variety of colours in your diet ensures you also get a variety of essential nutrients for optimal health. Not only good for the body but visually satisfying too #foodforlife #healthyliving #healthylifestyle #nutrition #plantbaseddiet #vegetarianfood #holistichealth #holisticnutrition #guthealth
