25.01.2022 Interesting Uni of South Florida research showing that endothelial cells are responsive to lymph flow and influence the formation and maintenance of valves. Maybe future implications for repairing valves and restoring lymph flow after filariasis? https://hscweb3.hsc.usf.edu//study-finds-cellular-proces/

24.01.2022 Who knew it would be more work pre-recording conference presentations than presenting them live.... If you are attending the Australasian Lymphology Association Virtual Conference please look for our session on Day 2 - Delivering lymphoedema services to people affected by lymphatic filariasis in developing countries - A "not for profit" initiative. Jan Douglass, ASM Sultan Mahmood and Marielle Esplin

23.01.2022 March is #LymphoedemaAwareness month. What will you do to support people affected by lymphoedema this March? Read more at Talking Lymph https://www.movinglymph.com.au//march-is-lymphoedema_aware

20.01.2022 Another one of our papers on the highly accessed list It is available open access https://www.liebertpub.com/doi/full/10.1089/lrb.2018.0063 'Comparison of Staging Systems to Assess Lymphedema Caused by Cancer Therapies, Lymphatic Filariasis, and Podoconiosis'

19.01.2022 The online conferences continue. Last night I presented to the NTD NGO Network on a survey I had conducted among NNN members working in the field with people affected by chronic oedema. You can see the presentation at #MovingLymphOnline It is available for free preview in the partially developed course for lymphoedema self-care in low and middle income countries. https://online.movinglymph.com.au/courses/self-care-ll-lmic

19.01.2022 Teaching myself to write online courses in preparation for the NFP.

18.01.2022 Our reliability analysis on the Indurometers as we used them in Bangladesh & Ethiopia is published. Congratulations to all our data collection teams who worked so hard to collect good quality data in often challenging conditions. All intra-rater reliability scores were very high. The article is not open access but it is published online ahead of print and available free for 30 days. http://bit.ly/2QnVifO

17.01.2022 Training in the enhanced self-care protocol has begun in Malawi. Fikre Hailekiros of #NAPAN was essential to the successes achieved during the original study in #Ethiopia, and is now sharing his experience and expertise with central health staff in #Malawi. These health workers will take the training to regional Malawi where the self-care practices will be taught to people affected by #lymphoedema, their caregivers and the local health workers. We are eternally grateful to #C...NTD @LSTM for their vision in supporting development of this program. We also thank GSK and #DFID for the financial support that made it possible. We sincerely hope that World Health Organization (WHO) will take note of this growing body of evidence and update their recommendations to all #LymphaticFilariasis endemic countries who must implement national scale #lymphedema services under their #GPELF obligations. Please help spread the word by sharing this post. See more

16.01.2022 Our paper on enhanced self-care in Ethiopia is published! People who added lymphatic stimulation through deep breathing, self-massage and skin mobilisation had fewer secondary infections than people following the current recommendations alone. We strongly recommend that the WHO update the guidelines given to LF and podoconiosis endemic countries to include these self-care practices. https://www.mdpi.com/2077-0383/9/12/4077#

13.01.2022 Our paper on staging systems in #lymphedema is now available #openaccess via Lymphatic Education & Research Network @LymphaticResearch CNTD @CNTD LSTM @LSTM https://mailchi.mp/lymphaticnetwork/gwx7j4yyew-1045421

12.01.2022 Our presentation on developing a self-care protocol for people affected by lymphoedema in LMIC is on Day 2 of the Australasian Lymphology Association Virtual Conference Developing an Enhanced-care Protocol For People Affected By Lymphoedema In Bangladesh And Ethiopia, ASM Sultan Mahmood, Jan Douglass

09.01.2022 Our first virtual conference starts tomorrow! We have 3 presentations, on the enhanced-care protocol, the indurometer and our proposed not-for-profit.If you are 'attending' please look for our sessions. Thank you Marielle Esplin, Syeed Mahmood and Patricia Graves.

09.01.2022 Writing online courses as fast as I can, and this is the most important one of all. There's not much content loaded yet but most of it is available for free https://online.movinglymph.com.au/courses/self-care-ll-lmic

06.01.2022 The second round of training in enhanced #selfcare for #LymphaticFilariasis related #lymphedema has begun in Lalmonirhat District in #Bangladesh. The first study in late 2018 was only on people affected by moderate to severe #lymphoedema but this time we are including people with mild disease. We are interested to see if it can reverse lymphoedema in these early cases. Syeed (ASM Sultan Mahmood) does a wonderful job of training everyone in the lymphatic stimulating practices ...and really cares about helping people to more effectively manage their lymphedema limbs. In the first study we were comparing the enhanced protocol to the current WHO recommendations and he had a hard time NOT teaching the new techniques to everyone. In this study everyone is being taught the enhanced self-care protocol and we are comparing the effects between stages, so I know he is really enjoying not having to hold anything back! See more

05.01.2022 I was invited to present to the NTD Program Managers meeting for Western Pacific Region last week and you can view the pre-recorded session at #MovingLymphOnline where it is available for free preview. https://online.movinglymph.com.au/courses/self-care-ll-lmic

05.01.2022 Great to see Ben's paper in pre-print. 'Risk factors for Lymphatic Filariasis and Mass Drug Administration non-Participation in Mandalay Region, Myanmar' https://www.researchsquare.com/article/rs-59699/v1

04.01.2022 Our most important publication to date. https://www.mdpi.com/2077-0383/9/8/2444

04.01.2022 Our poster on enhanced self-care in Bangladesh is on display at the virtual ASTMH conference. This is usually a massive 5-day conference with so many posters that you only get to display yours for one day. In the virtual format they are available for viewing for the whole conference with an allocated 1.5 hour window of opportunity for questions via a chat function. Syeed is online ready to answer questions, even though it is after midnight for him in Bangladesh. I hope we get a few views!
