25.01.2022 With Year 11 and 12 students able to come back to school on the 26th May it looks as if we are headed out of the woods. I hope the return to normal school brings relief from the monotony of home schooling and reinvigorates motivation to study. But this is no time to take our foot off the pedal! With the imminent resumption of face-to-face classes it's tempting to put off any questions or concerns until classes are back. But VCE takes no prisoners and it is so important that we tackle problems promptly so they do not accumulate. Do not procrastinate!! The sooner we acknowledge a problem the faster we can deal with it a find and solution. Good luck for your final week of home schooling and remember, I am always here to lend a helping hand.

15.01.2022 Happy holidays everyone!! Time to reward a hard term with a well deserved break. This term has been a bumpy road, to say the least, but all students should be proud of how you handled the test of online schooling. A heartfelt thank you to all the teachers who worked so hard this term to make the transition to virtual schooling as smooth as possible. It is a credit to you all that a surprising number of students actually preferred the virtual classroom!! Now it's time to start thinking about one of the biggest oxymorons school has to offer: holiday homework. Please, for your own sanity, do not leave it until the last day of holidays!! Just think, if you get it done in the first week you can have the rest of the holidays off without unfinished homework haunting you. And remember, I am always to here to lend a helping hand.

14.01.2022 Congratulations on finishing the first week back to school! It is so refreshing to see a smile on everyone's faces as year 11 and 12 get to see their friends and teachers again after a trialling couple of months. This term didn't have a smooth start and many students are feeling overwhelmed as the reality of VCE hits hard after months of home learning. But never forget I am always here to lend a helping hand and get you back on track. It is never too late to ask for help!

03.01.2022 Holiday homework can be overwhelming, particularly for year 12 students. To prevent undue pressure and stress, here are some simple steps you can take to deal with your homework with maximum efficiency and minimum stress. - Make a list of tasks you need to complete before the end of the holidays. Include any extra work that you personally think you need to do to establish understanding or prepare for SACs or end of year exams. - Of the tasks you need to complete, place t...hem in three categories of decreasing importance; 'must do', 'should do', 'could do'. Tackle the 'must do' items first, then get onto the 'should do', and finally the 'could do'. For example, questions set by your teacher will be in the 'must do' category and should be done first. But you may decide that you need to spend time addressing your personal weaknesses through extra questions, so this would fall in the 'should do' category. If you are really determined to set yourself up for the best year 12 possible, you may also choose to some exam prep for the end of year, which would fall into the 'could do' category. Depending on how ambitious you are, be prepared to not finish all your 'could do' items. - Create ‘chunks’, and each day set a goal of which chunks of homework you are going to do. With a clear goal in mind you are more likely to be productive when at your desk rather than spending as much time on your phone as with a pen in hand (yep, we’ve all been there). - Work to your strengths. If you work best in the mornings, get all your ‘chunks’ done in the morning and give yourself the afternoon off. If you prefer to get it all done as early as possible, give yourself as many chunks each day as you think you can handle and once you’ve finished all your tasks enjoy relaxing for the rest of the holidays. If you find yourself really unmotivated, you are best to assign yourself just a few chunks each day, but then work almost every day of the holidays to get everything done. - TAKE A BREAK!! No matter how much you have to get done, you need to spend some time doing the things you love. Long term, spending all day everyday at your desk is not sustainable. So get out, go for a run, or a swim, or play some music, or watch Netflix. Whatever you find relaxing and revitalising. Holidays are a great chance to catch up on missed work or get ahead of the pack for next term. But it is important to keep everything in perspective or the overload of work can feel a bit like drowning (been there, done that, lost the T-shirt to the next victim of holiday homework). Write a list, create chunks, set yourself goals. And before you know it you’ll be back next term feeling good because you are totally up to date with your work and have prepared yourself for the coming term .
