22.01.2022 It is with mixed emotions that I write this post. After 10 years (2009-2019) of Driving Assessments and assisting with countless cases, I will be closing down Evolution OT and commencing an exciting new work role with Advanced Personnel Management (APM). New challenges ahead!! I still remember my first case at Evolution in January 2009, a farmer who had lost his right leg in an accident. Memories and experiences from all of the wonderful clients that I have worked with ov...er the years will stick with me for a long time, and have shaped my clinical practice. Unfortunately this change means that we will be unable to accept any further referrals for private driving assessments, services to the general community or NDIS services. Fortunately, through APM, I am able to accept driving assessment or vehicle modification referrals that are insurer or employer funded (Such as Workcover). 16.01.2022 31 August 2016 is National Meals of Wheels Day. Meals of Wheels volunteers give so much more than just a hot lunch. Its interesting, when scheduling appointments with my clients, often they will say, "No, I cant do that time as my MOW is delivered then." Its a true reflection on the fact that the service is so much more than just a hot lunch; a friendly smile, a chat about the weather, a nutritious meal and knowing someone will drop by to say hello, even if it is only just for a few minutes. Lets give thanks for work of the organisations, and they 78,700 volunteers at over 740 branches around the country. The community-run organisation delivers meals to people with a wide range of support needs, including seniors, people with disabilities, and those recovering from illness or surgery. http://mealsonwheels.org.au/

12.01.2022 When working with my older clients, Im always extolling the value of pre-planning in relation to your driving. Whether that is pre-planning your trip down to the local shop, a trip away to the coast, or a family dinner at night time. In the same way I also encourage drivers to pre-plan their driving cessation as they get older or unwell. Reducing driving to the local area, avoiding night time driving or heavy traffic are all great ideas - but what about the next step. S...tepping down to not driving at all is one of the hardest changes in life, and like any major life change needs pre-planning, practice and organisation. There are so many wonderful services and community travel opportunities out there, such as public transport, local paid community transport, RSL and local club bus runs, ride share programs, taxi subsidy scheme, family and friends, etc. However - here is the key! Each of these services takes a phone call, a booking or a practice run to ensure that it works for you. I recommend that you try one or more of these services before you really need them, so that if the day comes that you have to cease driving you will be comfortable, safe and prepared!

A Driving OT will be a central part of that process and care is needed to ensure funding isnt delayed unnecessarily. This really is worthwhile advice if driving is part of your NDIS participant plan.
