25.01.2022 When our bowel motions become too soft or mushy, it can inhibit our usual closing reflex at the anal sphincter. This may result in a lot of toilet paper being ...needed to feel clean, or even pain or bleeding occurring when wiping. To help trigger your closing reflex, before reaching for the toilet paper, tighten and draw inward at the anal sphincter (as if holding in wind): 1) Do this 5 times quickly 2) Do 1 long hold of approx 5 sec duration 3) Now gently wipe (if tenderness remains, try using a wet wipe) If you are seeking more information or help in managing your bowel habits, please make an appointment by calling reception on 07 4688 5533.

22.01.2022 As a mother of young children, I wished that I had gone into parenthood with greater upper body and general strength - I honestly did not realise how much lifti...ng and carrying happens on a daily basis! By including strength training into your weekly barrage of physical activity, you can build condition and even reserve capacity for the strength elements needed in everyday tasks and functional movements. Strength training is also a great way to load and progress your Pelvic Floor Muscle function if performed well. If you would like a Pelvic Floor Check or guidance in starting or continuing with strength training, make an appointment, I'd love to help you!

17.01.2022 Beyond the physical assessments and clinical reasoning, a HUGE part of my practice as a Physiotherapist is to LISTEN. Yesterday I spent time exploring the top...ic of Pelvic Girdle and Back Pain during pregnancy and beyond. One of the really interesting research papers presented was actually about the emotional and social impact on women who experience pain - impact on body image, identity, ability to attend work or complete other daily tasks - and how so many women feel like they are not heard when talking to medical professionals. What a great reminder on the impact and importance of taking time to stop and listen!
