07.01.2022 This guy Everytime I pigeon hole this horse he makes me think again. I swear he has been retired more times than I can count but he just keeps coming back. Jumbo raced from the age of 2yo, at the top level (I know, I know, a topic for another day!) until he retired the first time at age 9yo. Even though he was in my care during his younger racing years it wasn't until age 9 that he became my sole responsibility, as in I "owned" him. A large horse, standing over 17hh he ca...rries the battle weary bones and arthritis that come with performing at peak level at a tender age when his body just wasn't mature. But on top of that he has torn a hole in his near fore superficial digital tendon not once but twice! He also had a horrific paddock accident at about the age of 11yo by somehow getting both hind limbs stuck in a 12ft farm gate. This accident did damage to his pelvis and sacro-illiac joint plus added a fair few layers of scar tissue up and down both hind limbs and also but a small tear in his hind tendon as well. Believe it or not, the gate came off second best, that's how tough he is. So, in light of his history and body I have always been conscious not to ask too much of this horse physically. However it seems he has other ideas!! The recent reiki journey we have been on has stopped me in my tracks, the version of this horse that has now presented is a totally different one to the horse I have known for the last 15years!!! He has communicated that he is now his true self, a healer and a helper and that is what he wants to do. He is grounded, no longer shying at the wind or the shadows and each day he greets me like this. Joyous and full of energy! It makes my heart sing!!! He is an amazing leader for the herd and is a solid rock for not just myself but my whole family. I guess the take away idea here is, it does no good to judge. Everyone is at the place they are now for a reason and everyone's journey is different.
