If accessing up to $20,000 of your superannuation between now and 30 September 2020 would be helpful, follow the link to the information we have published about eligibility and the application process. 25.01.2022 Could your small business use $10,000 to help recover from economic hardship imposed by the Covid-19 outbreak? 24.01.2022 A quick shout out to Heads of Noosa Brewing Co. who recently won Best Craft Beer on the Sunshine Coast. Lance and Craig are brothers and co-founders of the business and are seriously dedicated to producing fantastic local beer. Check out their website headsofnoosa.com.au and if you’re looking for chilled out venue to relax over a meal and sample the range of beers on offer, head over to the Taproom at the brewery in Noosaville. Keep up the great work guys.
24.01.2022 Excellent news for small businesses with the Treasurer announcing that the $150,000 Instant Asset Write-off will be extended for 6 months until 31 December 2020. If you are in the position of needing replacement or new equipment, this measure allows you to claim an immediate tax deduction for the purchase price up to $150,000. This has provided a window for businesses that are hesitant to commit to asset purchases in the immediate aftermath of the Covid-19 outbreak. They will now have some breathing space to assess trading conditions over the next 6 months.
23.01.2022 The Evolve family has grown again, with our Gympie Senior Accountant and technical whiz Cameron Tompkins and his lovely wife Sarah celebrating the arrival of baby Eleanor Rose. We are all so happy for them and are sending wishes for continued good health, clean nappy changes and a decent night's sleep.
22.01.2022 What do accountants do once they have survived the end of financial year rush? Have a competition to see who can make the best beer, obviously! Massive shout out to Jason from ONF Surveyors who did a fantastic job blind tasting all the beers and carefully judging them. He shall be henceforth known as the man with the golden taste buds. Turns out James from the Gympie office makes a delicious brew and was crowned the Beer King. All hail James the 1st. Long live the King.
22.01.2022 Here’s a small pat on the back for the Evolve Team. Each year the ATO sets a benchmark for Tax Agents to have 85% of their tax returns lodged on time. This sounds like an easy target to meet, but there is always a portion of returns out of our control and these can only be completed when our clients give us the information we need. Many accountants struggle to reach 85%. This year we achieved 92%. This is a fantastic result and means all our clients are at a lower risk of ...audit selection and we generally have a better standing with the ATO. This is reflective of our commitment to constantly improve how we operate and as part of that approach we always welcome input and feedback from all clients, suppliers and others who deal with our practice. Congratulations to our hard-working team and keep up the amazing job.
22.01.2022 Does your family struggle to stick to your budget? Our Director, Cameron Klupfel, shared his top budgeting tips with Kids on the Coast Magazine. Check out the article below: https://bit.ly/3i2QUOU
22.01.2022 From all the Team at Evolve, we extend our warmest wishes for a safe and enjoyable Easter break. Our hearts go out to those who are sick or have sick family and we hope they have a speedy recovery. Stay safe and stay home everyone.
21.01.2022 - STEP CHALLENGE UPDATE - It is week 4 of our challenge and we are chipping away at our 5 million step goal. We are all trying our best to squeeze in extra steps every chance we get! Collectively, our team has made the outstanding effort to log 2,347,607 steps so far. That is all the way from Byron Bay, NSW to Coober Pedy, SA!... A special mention to Senior Accountant (aka Step Superstar) Kate Everett who has contributed a huge 451,281 steps. That's averaging 15,000 steps a day! Despite our efforts, we are a little behind schedule and could use some extra motivation. Drop a comment below to support our team and help us finish the challenge with a bang!

21.01.2022 Did you know that there are still a couple of Covid related Queensland Government grants and programs open to small business. Most notably the $10,000 Business Adaption grant is still open to regional businesses. It has been closed to businesses in South East Queensland, but there are still funds available in regional areas. We've created a quick summary page with links to the programs that are still open. Act now, before all the funds are allocated.... https://www.evolveaa.com.au/queensland-government-grants-s/
21.01.2022 Welcome to Accountants in Pajamas, a behind the scenes snapshot into some of our home office set ups and a chance for us to share some ideas about staying productive while you are working at home. To get things started, let's take a quick look at the home office of our director, Cameron Klupfel. Cam is widely known for his amazing productivity, so we are hoping that his office set up gives away some hints about how he maintains his almost super-human workload. Minimalist design. Clutter free. Tastefully decorated. Comfortable attire. Wait, are those slippers?
21.01.2022 We've just published an interesting read about pricing strategies. If want to improve your business skills it's definitely worth a read. https://www.evolveaa.com.au/3-simple-and-effective-pricing/
20.01.2022 Our Senior Accountant Cam Tompkins is spending the day soaking up the latest changes and updates to Fringe Benefits Tax. How he can fit more of this technical knowledge in his head is a genuine mystery. This seminar is typical of the sort of pain and torture we're willing to endure for the benefit of our clients.
19.01.2022 From Cameron and the team at Evolve Accounting & Advice, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. A reminder that our office will be closed from 5pm Friday the 18th of December and will re-open on the 4th of January 2021. Best wishes for a happy holiday season and our sincere thanks for your continued support.

18.01.2022 - 2020 BUDGET UPDATE - Last night Josh Frydenberg delivered, what has been described as, the most important Federal Budget since World War 2. The budget provided an insight on how the Morrison Government plans to navigate Australia and support both businesses and individuals through these testing and unprecedented times. We have summarised the key points you need to take away from the 2020 Federal Budget below:
18.01.2022 Is your business registered for Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT)? If yes, deadline day is coming up! Your FBT return might look a little different this year due to COVID-19. Check out all the details in the link below. If you need any assistance in meeting your compliance obligations, our team can help! Give our office a call on 5319 0010 to find out more.
17.01.2022 Here is the Evolve team taking its own medicine. Strategic planning and review is very applicable for small businesses and it's something we recommend you do regularly. We took half a day out of the office and the whole team spent time reviewing what is working, what isn't working, how we can improve and setting action plans for implementing those changes. A very worthwhile activity and a chance for all team members to have some input.
17.01.2022 Senior Accountant, Cameron Tompkins, recently spent the day visiting his client’s farm. Not the typical ‘day in the life of an accountant’ you would expect! Here at Evolve, we believe our role as your accountant extends beyond preparing your tax returns. Our team of accountants have a wealth of experience and share a passion for small business. We want to see our clients succeed and seize every opportunity to grow and improve their business. To do this, we can’t take a ‘one size fits all’ approach. We make an effort to understand you. Understand your business, your circumstances and your goals. We want to know our clients inside out to offer tailored advice and solutions all year round, not just at tax time.
16.01.2022 A friendly reminder that our offices will be closed on Monday the 5th of October for the Queen's Birthday Public Holiday. Our team will be back and ready to assist you from 8:30am, Tuesday the 6th of October. We hope you all make the most of the beautiful Spring weather and enjoy the long weekend!
16.01.2022 I would walk 500 miles, and I would walk 500 more Well actually the Evolve team plans to walk 3.7 million miles. That is approximately 5 million steps and the distance between Byron Bay, NSW and Carnarvon, WA. Why are we doing this? We are sure you can relate, but our team have found that it has been difficult to keep up with our healthy habits throughout 2020. Getting back on track can be hard, but one of our accountants started posting their daily steps, motivation and ac...tivity ideas. This energy spread throughout our workplace and suddenly everyone was more aware of their activity and trying to better themselves each day. Now, even though most of our office is still working from home, we are engaging with each other daily, kicking our activity goals and motivating each other on the days where we would rather sit on the couch. We have 6 weeks to reach our 5 million step goal. Do you think we will make it? Who do you think will contribute the most steps? We will keep you updated with our progress throughout the challenge so stay tuned! And if you, yes you reading this, are looking for sign to increase your activity or try something new, then this is it! We can’t wait to see how far our team progress during the next 6 weeks, and the healthy habits that stick well after.
15.01.2022 In this continuation of Accountants in Pajamas we want to discuss basic ergonomics. This week a physiotherapist was telling us that over the past month, her business has boomed, due mainly to various neck, back, arm and wrist problems brought about by bad ergonomics in work from home situations. These people work all day every day in an office without a problem, but within a month of working in a sub-optimal ergonomic set up, their bodies start to suffer from chronic sorene...ss and pain and Repetitive Strain Injuries. There have been many studies done on the health implications of a sedentary working scenario and the news isn't good. The all cause mortality rates of those sitting down all day are significantly higher than those who are active, or even just standing. Our office offers sit/stand desks that many of our team choose to use. Our Mooloolaba based accountant Larisa has taken this a step further and installed one in her home office. Following photos show her work space with a regular desk and then with her sit/stand desk. Her preference for standing for periods of time will provide her with both short and long term benefits. Are you and your team making smart choices?

15.01.2022 The first round of the $10,000 Business Adaption Grant was so popular that it closed within just a few days of starting. The Queensland Government has announced that a second round will now be opening from 1 July 2020. Small business owners who are interested in accessing this money, you need to act now so that your application is ready to submit as soon as the grant is opened. Follow the link to the Business Queensland page and read through the How to Apply section. https://www.business.qld.gov.au//advice-su/grants/adaption
15.01.2022 At Evolve Accounting & Advice we feel it is always important to give back to the community that supports us. Last night it was great to attend a celebration of this at the University of the Sunshine Coast, where along with other donors we enjoyed the hospitality of the Vice Chancellor and Staff. Every year we provide a $1500 Prize to the most outstanding student in the field of Entrepreneurship. We feel as business accountants and advisors that this is an area that should be supported at a tertiary level.
15.01.2022 Congratulations!! To all the small business owners who have battled through this crazy financial year and are still standing, take a bow. There's still a lot of uncertainty on the horizon, but let's hope for a better financial year ahead of us. Don't forget that you need to complete your annual STP reporting. If you have 20 or more employees, you need to report by 14 July 2020 and if you have fewer than 20 employees, the deadline is 31 July 2020.... June quarter superannuation is also due for lodgement and payment by 28 July 2020. Check out the ATO website for more information on your STP reporting. https://www.ato.gov.au//end-of-year-finalisation-through-/
15.01.2022 As we approach the final deadline to implement Single Touch Payroll (STP), it has been reported that 60% of small businesses are yet to comply with this new legislation. This is worrying because at some point the ATO will start issuing penalties. In our opinion this figure represents business owners who either aren’t aware of their obligations, don’t know how to meet their obligations or haven’t had the time to get it done. If you are a small business with employees, you ha...ve no choice, you must comply. If you have more than 4 employees, your deadline is 30 September 2019. If you have fewer than 4 employees you must still comply, but you have a couple of concessions around how your report and how often you report. If you don’t have an STP solution in place, now is the time to act. Contact us for help and we can help you with the best solution for your business.
14.01.2022 If you're an employer registered for the JobKeeper program, don't forget that your May wages need to be reported via the Business Portal on or before the 14th June, so you only have a few days to get this done.
13.01.2022 I spy with my little eye Did you see the Evolve team in the Autumn edition of Matters Magazine? Thanks for the mention Matters Magazine Sunshine Coast!
13.01.2022 Thank you to all the dads out there. You're such an important part of your children's lives and you deserve to be recognised and appreciated this weekend. Have a great fathers day.
12.01.2022 With less than 2 days until the end of the financial year, you still have time to make sure you are in the best tax position possible. A number of the steps in our "10 things to do before 30 June 2020" are still actionable and useful. Take a few minutes to check out the list and make sure you have done everything you can. https://www.evolveaa.com.au/tax-planning-tips/
12.01.2022 Thank you to Deirdre Wilson and the team at Hope Reins for the beautiful Christmas Gift. We are always happy to support such wonderful organisations like Hope Reins..
10.01.2022 The federal government has extended the Coronavirus SME Guarantee Scheme into Phase 2 which will run from 1 October 2020 until 28 March 2021. Under Phase 2 of the scheme, the government will continue to guarantee 50% of a new business related loan undertaken with an approved lender. The available time frame of the loan has been increased to 5 years and the maximum loan is a whopping $1million, up from $250,000 under Phase 1. The 6-month repayment free period currently avail...able under Phase 1 will be at the discretion of the lender. If you are a business with a turnover under $50million, this may be an opportunity to secure funding to help survive and prosper through these challenging times. Visit the treasury website for more information. https://treasury.gov.au/coronavirus/sme-guarantee-scheme
09.01.2022 Fantastic news for small business owners. The ATO have announced an extension of time to enrol for the JobKeeper payment. You now have until 31 May 2020 to enrol and lodge your application. If you wish to claim for April, you must have still paid wages in April, it is only the application date that has been extended. Read more on the ATO website. https://www.ato.gov.au/general/jobkeeper-payment/
09.01.2022 As a small business you currently have access to the $150,000 instant asset write off. This means that most assets you purchase and install before 30 June 2020, can be treated as a tax deduction in the current financial year. This covers both new and used assets. However, from 1 July 2020 onwards, the instant asset write-off will be reduced to $1,000. The recently announced Investment Incentive scheme will give you a 50% deduction on new assets purchased after 1 July 2020, but not used assets. You need to think about how this can benefit you and take action before 30 June 2020. Please talk to a tax advisor before making any decisions to make sure you are meeting all the requirements.
08.01.2022 On Friday, we took the day off from accounting for our staff Christmas party. The party was kept top secret, so our team had no idea what they were in for! This was no relaxing Christmas party Split into two teams, and sent off on the Evolve Accounting Amazing Race. The race found our staff completing arcade games at Timezone, eating challenges (don’t worry, it was only churros!), racing through Sunshine Plaza and Mooloolaba completing tasks and breaking out of an Escape Roo...m, all to be awarded clues from race masters, Cameron and Rachelle. Once free from the Escape Room, we met back at our office and decode a secret message to win the race. Congratulations Steph, James, Jess and Ky who won the race! The day wasn’t all competition, our team also exchanged Secret Santa presents and enjoyed a delicious seafood lunch. It was great to spend some time together having fun after a huge year.
08.01.2022 Congrats to Sunshine Coast Business Associates for making a positive difference in our community. Our director Cameron Klupfel is a part of the group and we probably should offer a prize for anyone who can spot him in this photo. Well done to everyone involved.
08.01.2022 The Evolve team recently enjoyed a fantastic lunch, including sampling a few brews, at Heads of Noosa Brewing Co. The afternoon included a tour of the brewery and an insight into their manufacturing process. Our team always enjoys getting to know our clients and supporting their business. A huge thank you to Craig and the Heads of Noosa team for your hospitality. The food and drink were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

05.01.2022 If you employ casuals, here's an article you really need to read. There is now legal precedent that casuals who are employed on a regular basis are entitled to be paid leave, effectively making them permanent part-time employees. This could have some significant effects for small business and you may need to take action to make sure you are treating employees correctly. https://www.smartcompany.com.au//casual-leave-entitlements/
05.01.2022 The Evolve team recently had a fun night out enjoying a group cooking class with Spirit House at Yandina. We learnt some Thai cooking skills and recipes, then relaxed with a wine or beer and devoured our delicious creations. A great way to spend some quality time as a group of friends and workmates.
