17.01.2022 I don’t advertise, so Google business reviews are crucial for my little business survival. As the year is coming to an end I am reminded of all the lovely projects I worked on this year. If one of them was yours I would LOVE it if you could pop a review on Google for me, this is the link: https://bit.ly/2BCZPGW Online reviews help people feel confident about choosing who to work with. One short sentence and a few stars goes a long way. ... And since I try all my clients products I am happy to reciprocate. 5 star reviews could help your business thrive in 2021 which is just around the corner. Photo by Lina Trochez on Unsplash

16.01.2022 I recently created this website for Hive Haven. I had a lot of joy designing this one. I love taking a fantastic product and making it sing. Check it out, type Hive Haven into any search engine.... For all things 'native Australian bees' Hive Haven is heaven!

15.01.2022 Lot’s of small business owners launching a product ask me about barcoding. There seems to be a lot of misinformation out there but you can avoid confusion by downloading my free Barcode Basics Guide https://www.evolvebranddesign.com/landing-barcodes-basics I’m sure you’ll love the section about avoiding common barcode malfunctions. Plus, I explain (in real person English) the in’s and out’s of barcodes where to get one and where not to get one, the cost and what the numbers mean. I hope you find it useful! https://www.evolvebranddesign.com/landing-barcodes-basics

15.01.2022 Almost all my clients focus on products which are natural or mostly natural. I am very proud of this as I prefer to design for clients whose ethics align with my own. So you can imagine my delight when I was asked to create packaging for natural skincare range Beaucon. ... 14.01.2022 Brilliant idea - washing detergent that uses WAAAYY less packaging. I’ve recently decided to give this product a go mostly because I love that the packaging is plastic free. The detergent is like a piece of wax paper slightly bigger than a business card. I was surprised to find the whole pack (32 washes) came as a thin A5 envelope! No plastic and less cardboard than a box. I’m pleased to report that it’s actually works too! ... I'm loving Tru Earth zero waste, a million high fives.

13.01.2022 I hope this is the beginning of REAL change in the packaging industry in Australia. It's about time. https://www.foodmag.com.au/kitkat-packaging-to-be-australi/

11.01.2022 The plastic crackdown is on its way. Find out how it could impact your approach to product packaging. Hopefully you're all over it. But this is a great article if you need a reminder.

10.01.2022 I’ve recently redesigned the pizza packaging for Brubecks Boutique Foods. The brief was to create a format that could be versatile and to attract customers. That translates to give them reasons to choose Brubecks pizza over the competitor. Jamie settled on a backing board printing 1 colour both sides, a sticker and shrink wrap the lot. As far as design goes, the space was limited. So I proposed we tell the story of Brubecks Jamie was a chef in a past life and the Brubecks ...recipes are miles above expectations + they are a local family owned business. Anyhow the space I had is the 4 corners of the backing board, the reverse side and the variant stickers to work with. The variant stickers needed to be overprinted by the guys at Brubecks with weights, ingredients etc. This is a great way to save money for a small business. It means they can print vastly larger quantities and the label details can be changed at any time. Incidentally this is seriously good pizza look out for them at your local IGA or deli. 09.01.2022 Two bright sparks have identified a way to replace plastic in the food manufacturing world. Associate Professor Jayashree Arcot and Professor Martina Stenzel from the UNSW Sydney, have found a way to convert agricultural banana waste into a biodegradable and recyclable packaging material. This concept has been around for a few years but nobody has found a way to use it for food packaging. Until now. It could also become a value-add product for Australian banana farmers - ni...ce little bonus I am sure the farmers would relish. Farming bananas is a particularly wasteful fruit. To produce one large bunch, it takes a whole tree 6-8 months to grow. Then the rest of the plant is composted or discarded. To be a realistic alternative to plastic bags and food packaging, the researchers said the banana industry could to start to process the banana pseudostems (tree trunks) into powder, which they could then sell to packaging suppliers. When the tree waste is dried and milled it becomes a fine powder that can be made into different types of food packaging. 07.01.2022 Mighty Amino represents a protein powder that can be (secretly) mixed into food perfect for children who are fussy eaters. Before the design process I proposed a range of brand names and ‘Might Amino’ was the winner. I love that it's fun and kid centric. The brief was to reflect these two attributes in the brand design AND also to draw a character inspired by Maria and Waynes grandson. ... 04.01.2022 This is the chosen logo design for lovely new brand Healthy Chicken. Revolutionary products for chickens. These Natural Supplements and Nest & Coop Herbs are created to assist with breeding healthy happy chickens. Label designs are brewing, soon to hatch (haha pun intended).

03.01.2022 Loads of manufacturers say their packaging is environmentally friendly. But is it really? Or is it ‘greenwashing’? Sometimes its clear manufacturers are pulling a woolly one over us but other times it's hard to tell. Even though you want to believe them, you kind of know it’s often not true. Its up to the manufacturer to investigate is your chosen packaging is in fact truely environmentally friendly. ... Does 'biodegradble’ mean that plastic will break down into teeny weeny plastic pieces that will pollute the earth and oceans. Are the label printing ink water soluble or oil based? What about the lubricants and adhesive backing? Will it attract micro oils out of the plastic and into the food? And, remember, ‘recycled' doesn’t mean the substrate will be ‘recyclable'. Keen eyed green consumers can easily spot a fake. Properly investigating your packaging (though it can be quite an undertaking) means you can avoid ‘greenwashing’.
