16.01.2022 Get woozy when you stand? It might surprise you to know that not all dizziness is ‘vertigo’, and not all dizziness is related to the inner ear. Many cases of dizziness relate to the brain, the blood pressure, or to mixed-up signals from the posture muscles, joints, neck, blood vessels and vision. ... ‘Orthostatic’ dizziness is simply a body’s failure to send blood where it is needed, when it is needed. It is caused by the pooling of blood in the lower half of your body when you stand up. The result is a ‘grey out’, a woozy light-headedness that may blur your vision, stop you in your tracks and force you to hold onto the furniture before things return to normal. Why does it happen? Some people are ‘fainters’ their entire lives and are simply prone to orthostatic dizziness. But if the condition is new for you, you should think about the common reversible causes. Heat, hunger, fatigue and dehydration can all cause ‘grey outs’. Blood pressure medications are also notorious for causing orthostatic dizziness, so review your prescription list - is there a new one, too many (they can cause trouble when paired together), or have you recently changed your dose? If the situation doesn’t improve after addressing the common suspects, you should see your local doctor... Rarely, serious neurologic conditions can cause orthostatic dizziness, and an in-person review with your Specialist GP (or if they see fit a Neurologist) may be required. #evolveENT #healthyhappyfamilies

14.01.2022 New research reveals that excess screen time in early development can result in under-development of pre-schoolers brains.

14.01.2022 Thanks to you, COVID numbers on the Sunshine Coast are now very low. Our clinic will be reopening as soon as the Government and surgical colleges permit - with some small changes to keep you, your family and our staff safe. To prepare your little ones for the ‘funny costumes’ they might see on healthcare staff, why not dress up their toys in masks and face shields for fun? ... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KQDC-p7TG0U&feature=youtu.be

05.01.2022 What a great idea for Christmas boxes! Save your boxes, the environment and your ‘holiday boredom’ sanity this festive season.
