25.01.2022 A last splash of colour for the day
23.01.2022 Our hens have arrived! We’ve been on a wait list with our local rural store for ages now. Just when we were looking to get more hens, lockdown happened and everyone wanted hens for their backyard. It’s been ages since we’ve had our own, super fresh eggs. Good news for the kids coming to stay in the farmstay- now there will be eggs to collect from the chook shed every day.
23.01.2022 Edit: NOW BOOKED. Last minute cancellation - we now have a vacancy for 21-23 Dec, unfortunately our scheduled guests live on the Northern Beaches and are now unable to come. Please send us a message if you're keen for a short break before Christmas.
23.01.2022 I finally got a decent shot of the brown lamb- here it is in the paddock. It regularly loses mum and has to shout for her. Turn the sound on for full effect. If you look closely, you can spot two of the plover chicks in the long grass.
22.01.2022 Framing of the second cottage is complete
20.01.2022 The pigs came to check out what I was doing.
19.01.2022 The lambs like to gather while they wait for mum to finish eating
18.01.2022 Don’t forget to place your Port Macquarie Food Hub order. We’ve still got some yoghurt, feta and halloumi left but only for another week or two. There’s plenty of other goodies there too.
18.01.2022 No. 2 lamb for the year has arrived. We’re happy to report that this time the Mum has done a much better job of taking on the responsibility.
17.01.2022 The clouds are coming in- time to finish any jobs and head inside
17.01.2022 It looks like there’s a bit of milk sharing happening in the paddock today. Ian spotted this calf having a drink this morning. The cow’s calf is actually just in front of her.
15.01.2022 Don't forget to put your order in for Port Macquarie Food Hub. We still have our yoghurt, feta and halloumi available but stocks are getting lower. Don't miss out!
15.01.2022 We no longer have any produce to sell but there are plenty of other local producers to support by buying through the Port Macquarie Food Hub. Check out the website at www.portmacquariefoodhub.com.au and place on order. Delivery weekly in Port Macquarie area and fortnightly to Newcastle & Sydney.
14.01.2022 So quiet and peaceful at this time of the day.
14.01.2022 It’s a stormy afternoon- this one passed over us
14.01.2022 It looked like another storm was brewing when I headed off on my walk.
13.01.2022 We moved the sheep to a new paddock the other day- the grass is so long that they were hard to see to start with.
12.01.2022 Another lamb arrived last night- we’re off to a slow start but there’s a few ewes out there looking very close
06.01.2022 One of our first jobs this morning was unpacking the flooring that Ian picked up from Tweed Heads yesterday. It will spend some time inside the cabin acclimatising to the conditions before it gets laid. For anyone interested- it’s natural grade Blackbutt.
06.01.2022 We had a surprise early lamb arrival last night. We heard the bleating just as we were going to bed. Poor thing had been abandoned by its mother so she spent the night warming up in front of the fire.
06.01.2022 The last light after a sunny day. If you’re still looking for a summer getaway, we do have a few vacancies left before the end of January.
05.01.2022 This week we had solar panels installed on the cottage. We’re looking forward to lower electricity bills as well as relying more on renewable energy sources.
04.01.2022 It’s been so windy the last few days. At least the clouds have stayed away today to the let sun through.
03.01.2022 All the rain has been great, but it’s been lovely to see the sun again today.
03.01.2022 We’ve started preparing the ground ready to build our second farmstay cottage. This one will be smaller- just one bedroom. Once we’d left, the cows came down to inspect our work.
03.01.2022 We’re on a waiting list to get some chickens soon, but this spotty girl needed a new home, so she gets the whole space to herself for the moment.
02.01.2022 Down to -2 deg today, a thick frost spread everywhere
02.01.2022 We need to share with you a difficult decision that we have made. We will not be milking and making cheese this summer. There are many factors that we have taken into consideration when making this decision, including the impact of coronavirus and the uncertainty that provides to producers. We're also at a point where our family is moving into a new stage and we're looking forward to the chance to have a break and some flexibility to spend time with our children. We appreciate your understanding and are grateful for your support. We’ll keep you updated with where we take things from here. During this time, we will be concentrating on the accommodation side of our business and at the moment are part way through constructing our second farmstay cottage.
02.01.2022 Crisp, cool morning, with first hint of frost for the year.
01.01.2022 We brought the sheep into the shed today for a routine vaccination and drench for the young lambs.
