25.01.2022 Do you eat liver? Sheridan shared her Spiced Liver Pate recipe last week and we thought we would do you all a massive favour and repost it Liver is one of the most nutrient dense organ meats and, per 100g, actually contains over 100x the B12 content compared to beef muscle meat!... Those of you who have tried Sheridan's Spiced Liver Pate know just how DELICIOUS it is, and the fact that it's so nourishing just makes is that much better Find the recipe below! INGREDIENTS 500g organic chicken liver 1 brown onion 3-4 garlic cloves 1/2 cup ghee or butter 2 tsp ground coriander seed 2 tsp dried herbs like thyme or rosemary 1/2 tsp chilli flakes, or to taste 1 tbsp Apple cider vinegar to enhance the flavours Salt and pepper to taste (add lots of pepper!) METHOD Caramelise the onions in a little of the ghee/butter. Rinse the livers under water, add to a medium to high heated pan with the onion along with the garlic, coriander seed and herbs. Saute for 10 or so minutes until the livers have cooked to your liking. Add all of the mixture to a blender along with the remaining ingredients. Blend on high until smooth! Taste it, and add any additional flavour if you please. Give this recipe a try at home, add it to your plattes and let us know what you think Have you tried liver? The most common behavioural difference we see between excellent and average athletes is their ability to take their off-season seriously.... For the average athlete, the off-season means a lazy couple of months filled with a lack of training, over-eating and partying. And while we understand the importance of having a break, we also understand the struggle you go through to regain what you’ve lost over summer . On the other hand, you have the committed athlete who uses the off-season to relax and recover from a big season of competition, but at the same time prepares for an even bigger season to come. Paul Chek talks about why we should all be able to read our poop He says that the optimal poop is light brown in colour, easy to pass and not off-putting, well-formed and floating. 20.01.2022 There are only a few things in life that we have total control over. One of the key things is our ability to be PRESENT. Do you ever find yourself stressing about things that happened in the past, or might happen in the future?... We’re guessing that most of you might be familiar with this But here’s the problem with that: life doesn’t last forever. How will you feel in 50 years when you look back and realise you’ve spent most of your whole life either looking towards the future in anticipation or over-analysing the past, rather than enjoying the moments you were given? Most humans are never fully present in the now, because unconsciously they believe that the next moment must be more important than this one. But then you miss your whole life, which is never not now - Eckhart Tolle (author of The Power of Now). Practices such as meditation and breathwork are incredible ways to exercise being present and enjoying the now If you ever notice that your mind is stopping you from enjoying the present moment, try taking 3 deep breaths, sit down for 5 minutes of meditation (yes, that’s all it can take to reset the mind!!) and watch your whole demeanour change as you enter a state of calm. 19.01.2022 Does "not knowing" make you feel inferior or stupid? How does being not good at something make you feel? Do you steer away from any activities/opportunities/conversations/adventures/people because it might just be a bit too far outside of your comfort zone? There’s a concept in Zen Buddhism that’s known as SHOSHIN, which means the beginner’s mind .... Shoshin is all about letting go of preconceptions and having an attitude of openness. Basically, it means that we should cultivate and aim to take on a beginner’s mind in life, because the beginner’s mind is always open and eager to learn more. Imagine the difference it would make to your life if you were to take on challenges eager to fail, eager to learn and eager to grow Leaving your ego behind, forgetting embarrassment and being okay with being a learner. There are a number of ways to rediscover your beginner’s mind and embrace the concept of shoshin - Let go of the need to add value. Realise that you’re learning and that you don’t need to add value just yet. - Listen, don’t speak. Challenge yourself to stay silent and listen, especially if you’re the person that always has something to say. - Get comfortable with being a novice. If you’re at the bottom of the ladder, there’s only one way to go. If your mind is empty, it is always ready for anything, it is open to everything. Every segment of our programs is designed with purpose:... MINDFLEX. Before we start the physical training, we give our juniors the opportunity to develop their mind's flexibility by discussing the adversities they may face in life [bullying, peer pressure, dealing with other people], their responses and behaviours, their values and passions. BREATHWORK. We help our kids deal with their emotions and regulate their stress by controlling their breath- proven to be the most effective tool to navigate your way through life. SKILLS. Many kids struggle with confidence and self-worth, and we believe this is due to a lack of skill development. 02.01.2022 Are you addicted to sugar? We don’t just mean your typical sugary products like chocolate, lollies, ice-cream Maybe you’re addicted to FRUIT.... Most people significantly underestimate the addictive power of sugar in fruit. And whilst sugar isn’t the enemy, the amount of sugar we’re consuming is. One of the biggest changes we’ve had to make for the Corrective Culture Spring Cleanse was giving up practically all forms of sugar, which includes fruit and natural blood sugar spiking sweeteners such as honey or maple syrup . This has been quite the challenge for a few of our members participating in the cleanse, including our social media coordinator, Okki. Okki says that the first week of the cleanse came as a shock to her as she had no idea just how dependant she was on the sugar from fruits. Before she started the cleanse, fruit was a huge part of Okki’s diet and she was pretty much living off of it for every meal except dinners Brekkie was berries with yoghurt, lunch was a banana smoothie, snacks were blueberries. Okki didn’t expect her body to react so strongly going from eating multiple pieces of fruit each day to just one green apple per day. She experienced a serious withdrawal effect. Okki says that she started experiencing mood swings and became unable to moderate her stress levels, she also experienced a lack of concentration (which was especially hard with a uni assignment due).
