25.01.2022 This month we have been planting seeds and our kiddos have been taking them home to nurture them. Gardening is such a lovely opportunity to build lots of different skills! I spot a cute little green sprout and one very proud little girl!

21.01.2022 Cotton ball races are one of our favourite games here at Excel and it's super easy to re-create at home! If you would like to give it a go, all you need is a straw, masking tape and a cotton ball. The Game:... Place 2 lines of masking tape on the ground, with a large gap in between each line Have your child lay on their stomach, propping themselves up on their elbows. Have your child take in a big breath, and blow out through the straw to make the cotton ball move through the maze. Hint: If your child likes a challenge, add some twists and turns, or make the gap between the 2 lines smaller to make it tricker for them to stay in their track! Cotton ball races are a great way to help your child learn how to take large relaxing breaths which can help to calm down their bodies when they are experiencing big feelings. It also helps to work on core strength, directionality and using both sides of the body at the same time bonus!

16.01.2022 From all of us at Excel, we hope your day is merry and bright, full of lots of happy smiles and special family time.

15.01.2022 Ever wondered why our OT sessions look like play? Play is a child’s primary ‘job’. Our challenge as OT’s is to make the therapy session as fun and engaging as we can. A favourite at the Excel clinic is making a ‘Ninja Warrior’ obstacle course. Our kids have a ball whist working on planning and organisational skills, motor skills, sensory processing and social skills just to name a few!

12.01.2022 Bubbles are such a simple yet effective activity we use here at Excel, and are a huge hit with our kiddos! Playing with bubbles helps kids work on a variety of skills, such as: Oral motor skills: by having your child blow the bubble from the wand Fine motor skills: by grasping the wand and using a single finger to pop the bubble in the air... Visual tracking: by watching the bubble closely so it doesn’t fly away Body awareness: by helping your body understand how far it needs to reach the bubble, as well as drawing attention to different body parts, such as stomp on the bubble with your foot! or clap the bubble with your hands Self-regulation: playing with bubbles helps your child feel the calming effects of deep breathing Sensory processing: by touching the bubbles helps the body process a new or unfamiliar sensation on their skin See more

08.01.2022 Happy New Year! May your year be full of good health and happiness! We hope you have a lovely long weekend and look forward to seeing you when we return from break on the 4th January.

02.01.2022 Meet Charlotte! The friendly face (and voice) behind all the bookings and office administration here at Excel Occupational Therapy! Charlotte loves working with others who take genuine pride in their work and are team players. When Charlotte isn’t here welcoming all our clients and kids and managing our OT’s busy schedules, you’ll find her out and about exploring our beautiful coastline here in Coffs!
