24.01.2022 Even in New York City; especially when salvation comes in teal or turquoise. #itprobablyisnt #takeadeepbreath #sayingoftheday #notetoself #thetravelbootcamp #takeastepback #inspiration #colourtherapy #alwaysturquoise

24.01.2022 Some days you just have to create your own sunshine. A pristine reporter's notebook is full of youthful promise. At the end of the journey it's likely feeling its age. Just ask the Swipe Left. Cruising off South Australia, it went overboard twice, endured the world's longest blow-dry, spent time in cold storage with 30 dozen oysters, witnessed its owner reel in the day's biggest King George whiting and shed all its pages with the shock. #havenotebookwilltravel #notebook #journal #creativity #writeitdown #thewrittenword #moleskine #lestweforget #reportersbestfriend #toolsoftrade #thetravelbootcamp

22.01.2022 Swiss photographer Ruedi Haberli (@ruehab) shares Excess All Area's love of deserts and sand dunes. The way they are both soft and graphic. That quiet energy. The wind- carved, architectural desert in Egypt, first up here, got me thinking about an unforgettable visit to a desert camp at Erg Chebbi, near Mergouza, on Morocco’s south-eastern flank, a gateway to the Sahara Desert further south. And those unflappable camel train drivers. #desertsands #sandart #desertdesign #desertsoftheworld #travelnomads #morocco #saharadesert #moergouza #cameltraindrivers #footprintsinthesand

17.01.2022 Heading to the perfume party shelf for a reminder of travels past. Front and centre, a tiny bottle of Cambodian oud sourced from the Kalakasi Oud Factory in the beachside town of Batu Ferringhi in north-eastern Penang. It’s a rich, heady scent that evokes the perfume souks of Dubai. Its wingmen: Naomi Goodsir’s Bois d’Ascese, Clive Christian’s XXI Art Deco and Amouage Imitation. #iloveperfume #oud #oudh #scentofdubai #fragrance #travelsouvenirs #agencedeparfum #nicheperfume #luxuryperfume #canneverhaveenoughperfume #travelmementos #perfumesouks #thetravelbootcamp

17.01.2022 Some people will stop the traffic for cheese. But when you have a car that pops turquoise like this Nissan Figaro, which posed for @remygieling, you can probably get away with it. At the Amsterdam Cheese Company we have our eye on the Big Baby Gouda, which sells for $28, and makes the perfect grilled cheese sandwich. For the non-purists there are cheeses infused with truffles, pesto and jalapeno. And the car awating its parking ticket? Revheads will know that the Nissan Figar...o, launched in 1991 after a debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1989, borrowed its styling from the East German Trabant T70 coupe of the late-1950s. It was one of a handful of cute and interesting models they came out with at around the same time, among them the clever S-Cargo (a tiny delivery van shaped like a snail) and the Be-1. #trafficstopper #dutchcheese #cheese #thenetherlands #cheesesandwich #gouda #coolcar #thecolourturquoise #thetravelbootcamp #itravelforcheese #amsterdam #nissanfigaro #trabant #cutecars #revheads @remygieling

15.01.2022 Enough of this modern mayhem! It’s time to escape to the past. First stop, the picture book village of Montalbano Elicona in Sicily, a labyrinth of beautiful cobblestoned alleyways some 150km east of Palermo and about 50km south-west of Messina. Apart from the medieval artisanry of its streets, Montalbano Elicona is known for its 13th century Swabian-Aragonase Castle, built by the Emperor Frederick II, several beautiful churches, the megaliths of Argimusco sandstone rocks ...that rise more than 1000m above sea level - and the dreamy Malabotta forest whose trees include the Cerro (a type of oak), wild pear, the elder, ash, maple, hazelnut and chestnut. One of the village’s special holiday dishes is a pressed pasta seasoned with veal and mutton ragout, crumbled meatballs, eggplants, eggs and breadcrumbs. It’s also known for its ricotta and hazelnut desserts and traditional aniseed cookies. #montalbanoelicona #messina #sicily #cobblestonestreets #medievalarchitecture #ittakesavillage #thetravelbootcamp #travelin2021 #italiancommune #dreamingofitaly #ciao @didiofederico

12.01.2022 Too many books, too little time! Who else has stockpiled hundreds of books in anticipation of a leisured old age (with good eyesight and inquiring mind intact)? In Moldova, says @valentin.balan.photography who took this shot, books are what get the elderly through difficult times. For people like Ms Emilia who has a large collection of religious tomes, some over 100 years old, he says, books are a daily dose of hope.... #oldbooks #internationalwomensday #turnthepage #inspiration #dailydose #reading #homelibrary #bookcasebonanza

12.01.2022 Sure, Banksy flies the flag for graffiti art in London but the genre is a thriving one. There’s plenty of street art around north London, and colourful artworks in Camden, as well as the graffiti-filled Leake Street Tunnel near Waterloo Station. Street artist Busk celebrates Hackney Wick’s industrial past with this mural on the Echo Building, one in a series of artworks for last year’s London Mural Festival.... A nod to Hackney Wick’s Clarnico Sweet Factory advertisements of the 1900s, the style brings together the two graffiti forms of writing and muralism. It was created in collaboration with Global Street Art for Hackney Bridge (previously known as Clarnico Quay). Corrugated chic. #streetart #londongraffiti #artlovers #paintthetown #itravelforart #busk #murals #thetravelbootcamp #industrialcanvas #thetravelbootcamp

11.01.2022 Rust, wrought iron, flaky paint, ghost signage, and timber that's as soft as marshmallow ... in Sydney's inner west, decay can be an art form. Corrugated chic. Old cottages struggle to stay upright, and once were warehouses parade shiny aspirational facades. The clash of old and new. Which to choose?? #oldhouses #rusty #handymansdream #heritagehomes #restoration #househunting #coatofpaint @chateau.annandale #warwickshood

09.01.2022 Rust never sleeps. It’s busy turning corrosion into an art form. On fences, lacy garden tables and chairs, in car-wreck-strewn fields and on old building facades. For those who lust after rust, there are even YouTube tutorials that explain how to achieve a rusty surface using yes cinnamon. #rust #urbanart #corrosionchic #oldfences #corrugatediron @chateau_annandale_personal #innersydney #annandale #rustcolourpalette
