24.01.2022 Love this! Well done to all - young and old!! Got us thinking...: What would your 4 year old self say to you when contemplating whether to go for a walk/run/hit/kick/climb/jump etc or stay on the chair and finish off your emails/texts/TV show etc? ... Maybe we should ask our 4 year old selves this a bit more often...

21.01.2022 We all know that exercise is good for our bodies, but did you know that movement is medicine for your brain? Research shows that staying active throughout your... life can significantly impact your brain health! Not only does it reduce your risk of developing conditions like dementia and Alzheimer's disease, but it can improve the function of your brain. Studies have shown that exercise can actually increase the volume of your hippocampus, which is the memory centre of your brain. It's also been found that those who participate in higher levels of physical activity have better cognitive function and learning skills that those who are less active. Moral of the story? Your brain needs MOVEMENT to stay healthy. For tips on living a more active life, head to our website. #MovementisMedicine #ExerciseRightWeek2020

19.01.2022 Hello again! We have some important news on our plans to continue to offer you high quality exercise services during this uncertain time. At the time of this correspondence, the studio remains OPEN. We are NOT a regular gym (but rather, an Allied Health facility), we are maintaining high standards of hygiene and cleaning, and have limited people in our space at one time, so we continue to comply with the latest Federal and NSW Government advice and restrictions. IN ADD...ITION, we are adapting and enhancing what we do by offering the following: 1. Virtual Consults We have the means to hold exercise consultations with you via video link (ie. Zoom, FaceTime, WhatsApp, Skype), or by phone call. Our priority is to ensure you are able to maintain the recommended level of exercise for you and your health condition, and at least sustain the benefits that you have enjoyed to this point through your usual exercise routine. We can assure you that there is plenty to be gained through these means of consultation, and can provide you with the same level of advice, encouragement, monitoring and expertise as we can when we see you in person. 2. Prescribed Home Programming We offer the opportunity to establish a home-based program for you to maintain and keep working towards your health goals. As mentioned, now is as important as ever to ensure you are achieving suitable exercise levels, especially given the current restrictions and uncertainty. We assure you there are plenty of options to meet the recommended activity levels, and are here to help you with a plan! 3. Outdoor Exercise We are in the process of arranging location(s) to hold both 1-1 and small group outdoor exercise sessions. Depending on you and your health condition, these will be determined on suitability and practicality. We will continue to adhere to social distancing advice, and ensure they are conducted in a safe, professional and friendly environment. We believe these services will help ensure you continue to enjoy the right type and level of exercise that provides optimal benefit for your health and indeed, your life. What next? Please register your interest in receiving one or more of the above services BY SENDING US A PRIVATE MESSAGE and we will be in touch to give you more details.

18.01.2022 Often when someone with osteoporosis gets referred to us we hear them talk about a lot of whats mentioned in this article. Some medications for bone density do have side effects. Also, the advice theyve received when it comes to exercising is to be very gentle. These are some of the reasons why we love being able to deliver the Onero Program and our LIMB Approach. The LIFTMOR research mentioned in this article have produced some amazing results in improving bone density... levels in those with osteopaenia and osteoporosis through suitable resistance-training and weight-lifting. This has led to Osteoporosis Australia endorsing Onero. We are Accredited Exercise Physiologists and Onero Coaches, and specifically tailor our programs to each persons level, and love seeing people take control of their bone density! https://mobile.abc.net.au//seniors-ward-off-oste/11763018

17.01.2022 From Brendan: Ahhh #noosa - so much #goodvibes and #gratitude for you! Feeling super refreshed after a brilliant time on the beautiful #sunshinecoast in #queensland Loved our stay at the RACV Noosa Resort - brilliant facilities, amazing pools, fun for the little one, great food/drinks, gym and spa where we snuck in a couple of #massages made for an awesome break. I loved the opportunity to get some good runs in (despite the heat!) as well as a few strength sessions. I fin...d exercising gives me a sense of calm, which means relaxing after the fact becomes easier! Who likes exercising when on holidays? Do you prefer to take the time to fully submerse in relaxing and not doing much at all? Or do you get itchy feet and feel the need to get moving? Ok, so enough about holidays - promise! January is done and from here on, were really back to business. Off to a cracking week this week and looking forward to the year ahead with our crew and clients, new and old! See more

17.01.2022 When there is so much uncertainty, differing information, questioning, and waiting, its hard to know what to do, what to focus on, what action to take. But one thing to be really sure of, and that we cannot recommend highly enough, is to stay active. Exercise is a powerful antidote for many health conditions. But at times like this, its something that provides us something that we can control. It can provide us something we can be certain about. Consider its benefits for th...e following: For your immune system For your cardiovascular health For your strength and fitness For your metabolism For your bone health For your mental health For whatever youre reason for exercising, now is the time to maintain it as much as ever. We are here to help, and you can access our services in a number of ways. Stay tuned for more, but in the meantime, this is a good read! Take care, from us here at EIP. https://exerciseright.com.au/covid19-exercise/

We are delighted to be the first licensed practice in Sydney to be running #Onero, and look forward to furthering our impact on bettering the outlook of those with low bone mineral density. In addition to our very own LIMB approach to the prevention/management of #osteoporosis, we are excited at the prospect of helping many people all over Sydney achieve optimal benefit through s...uitable exercise prescription, and further demonstrate the power of #lifestyle intervention for combatting #chronic #health issues. Our classes are currently being held on Mondays and Wednesdays! Please feel free to drop us an enquiry if interested to know more! See more

08.01.2022 1 in 6 Aussie men are diagnosed with #prostate #cancer before they are 85 years old. Targeted #exercise is a hugely important part of the treatment plan. Weve been helping such men with our exercise advice and prescription for a while now, but we place high importance in keeping our eyes on the latest #evidence and sharpening our craft to ensure our care is of the highest quality. Getting into the latest down here in #Melbourne and looking forward to bringing the learnings back into our practice! #exerciseismedicine #exercisephysiologist #exerciseoncology

07.01.2022 Kicking off #ExerciseRightWeek2020 with a great piece on 10 News First Sydney highlighting the importance of asking the right questions to determine what is right for you when it comes to exercise. There are so many different variables that can be considered in order to figure out whether a particular type, format, frequency etc or exercise will work (or otherwise). The right exercise professional will take the time to understand these variables, which should then be reflected in the delivery of the program. Our advice is to ask questions and seek to understand whether a particular approach is right for you. https://twitter.com/10NewsFirst/status/1264472309093580800

06.01.2022 Happy Monday everyone! Hope you all have a nice week. A great article here that looks at studies related to exercise and its effect on preventing depression. The effect of course is positive, but not only that - it helps enhance the effect of other treatments, and they also note that only a small amount can be beneficial. http://time.com/5511322/exercise-depression-mental-health/

06.01.2022 We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy Easter. We hope you enjoy the next few days, whether its in the company of friends/family, or taking some time for yourself to relax (or get some things done!). Safe travels to those that are spending their time away from home, and we look forward to seeing you all safe and well after the long weekend!

05.01.2022 CORONAVIRUS - reducing risk of spread of infection There is much coverage in the media regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19). We just wanted to assure you that we have soap, hand sanitiser and machine and equipment wipes readily available and on hand for you to use. So what precautions can you take when you come to training?... 1. Wash hands thoroughly before and after your session with soapy water. 2. Be mindful not to rub your hands on your face, wipe brow etc 3. Please use hand sanitizer and wipes throughout your session. Please note that as long as you follow the guidelines issued by NSW Health, you are still safe to come and exercise. If you are experiencing any symptoms, we ask that you exercise caution and do not attend our facility. Here are some FAQ's regarding Coronavirus issued by NSW Health: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au//alerts/Pages/coronavirus-fa

05.01.2022 One from the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP). One third (33%) of death and disability can be attributed to PREVENTABLE lifestyle-related risk factors. In other words, we have significant power to reduce our risk of premature death and disability by improving how we live. 52% of Aussies are still not exercising enough and a staggering 95% arent eating enough fruit and vegetables. Both significant risk factors. Change can be hard. Everyone has barrier...s, but sometimes figuring out the strategies to overcome them can be tricky. We work with with our clients to understand THEM, and in doing so help them finds ways around some of their barriers, to help them find their way towards a healthier life. https://www1.racgp.org.au//unhealthy-lifestyles-placing-bu

03.01.2022 NEWS JUST IN! New legislation was passed today for those referred for Allied Health Services on an eligible plan from their GP, to be able to claim for Exercise Physiology services from Medicare for Telehealth and Phone consultations. This allows us to help those with chronic health conditions through the provision of suitable advice and exercise prescription, which is EXTREMELY important given the restrictions and limitations we are faced with as a result of the curren...t situation. People with a suitable referral will be entitled to up to 5 consultations, and will be bulk-billed. A great initiative, and due recognition for our industry and the benefits of exercise for a variety of health issues. Hugely reassuring to those who have been referred to us on a Chronic Disease Management Plan! If you have an existing plan, please feel free to contact us and we will schedule your appointment! Take care, much love.

03.01.2022 We love opportunities to spread the good word about all things #exerciseismedicine Earlier this week, Brendan was invited to speak to the Nepean/Blue Mountains Prostate Cancer Support Group (NBMPCSG) via Zoom to discuss the importance of #exercise in the management of #prostatecancer. He was warned that there may only be a handful of attendees, but well over a dozen gentlemen tuned in to hear about what safe, suitable exercises can do to help over course of prostate treatm...ent and recovery. A great turn out, and great interest shown by the gents! Thank you NBMPCSG, and wishing you all the best in staying active and well, particularly over the coming weeks and months #essa #exercisephysiology #exercisephysiologists #exerciseathome #prostate #cancer #exerciseoncology #exerciseoncologyprogram #prostatesupport #cancerrecovery #health #wellness #healthymen #awarenessforprostatecancer #resistancetraining #cardio #exerciseright @ Neutral Bay, New South Wales, Australia

03.01.2022 Wow! A huge WELL DONE and THANK YOU to all our amazing clients. In response to COVID-19, we at EIP took to the task of creating online services and programs for our clients with the hope that wed at least be able to offer some support and advice as the situation unfolded. 02.01.2022 Is your glass half empty or half full? asked the mole. I think Im grateful to have a glass, said the boy. - The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse (by Charlie Mackesy) Today is Anzac Day and perhaps this year more than ever, its a day to remember our fallen and their ultimate sacrifice, and to be grateful. There is no doubt that these are challenging times for many of us, however we are here. We have opportunity. And we are here and have opportunity largely because of the sacrifices of our countrys servicemen and servicewomen. We remember those that have lost their lives defending our freedom, and our right for opportunity. Lest we forget.

01.01.2022 COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update 21 March 2020 Here is a link to our latest communications regarding our operations at Exercise In Practice during the Coronavirus outbreak. https://mailchi.mp/52594daa1/eip-covid-19-update-21-03-2020 The main points we would like to highlight are:... Our services remain in full operation at this stage. One of the main recommendations for reducing your risk of contracting COVID-19 coronavirus (aside from hygiene and social distancing etc), is staying fit and healthy through participating in regular physical activity. Social Distancing We never have more than 12 people (6 clients, 6 team members) in the studio at a time, and have limited our classes to no more than 6 people. We remain conscious of maintaining a healthy distance between people on our premises. Travel, Self-Isolation and Symptoms Those who have recently travelled are required to self-isolate for 14 days, and as such will not be attending the studio or PCYC. Furthermore, people do not attend if they meet the criteria for self-isolation, have been diagnosed with COVID-19, have been in contact with someone diagnosed with COVD-19, or are waiting for test results for COVID-19. Anyone who experiences the onset of symptoms of cold/flu is advised to speak with their GP, remain in self-isolation for 7 days since the onset of symptoms, and not return to our services until at least 3 days since the cessation of symptoms. In the interest of our clients and our team, we ask you to please advise us if any of the above applies to you, and do phone us if youre unsure. In the meantime, we ask you to continue to follow the studio precautions with regards to hygiene: Wash your hands with warm soapy water before and after your session. Use hand sanitisers throughout your session as required. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with your hands. Those of us working in the spaces are constantly wiping down equipment before, during and after your sessions, and we have established a daily cleaning roster to ensure we adhere to the highest standards for hygiene. The studio is also professionally cleaned on a weekly basis. We assure you we are taking this very seriously. If you have any doubts or concerns, please feel free to contact us. We are in the process of putting together some alternative options for those that cannot make it to see us on site, and look forward to helping you all maintain your exercise programs. Stay well, and take care. Your EIP Team Image source: Queensland Health
