25.01.2022 FITNESS TESTING Were currently taking the @fitzroyfootygirls through baseline fitness testing. Fitness testing helps to identify strengths, areas for improvement and can allow us to track the progression of our athletes. By doing this we can see if our program is working and ensure were tailoring the program specifically for the athlete. We cant wait to see these girls in action this footy season

16.01.2022 RESISTANCE EXERCISE What do the the guidelines say? Strengthening exercise should be completed on 2 days of each week. Are you meeting them? Many Australians arent but doing simple resistance training can improve our functional capacity and decrease the risk of developing many chronic diseases.

16.01.2022 MEET A STUDENT PRACTITIONER Di Crossing (Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology)... Why do you want to be an EP? It satisfies my need to know how things work. I love find solutions that encourage people to be active whenever they can. What do you want to do post-uni? I intend to restructure my business to focus on Return to Work/OHS gaps in the market. However anything may happen as I am learning about other areas that I have enjoyed while doing placement. Then I intend to play more golf! Whats your favourite exercise? Squats as they strengthen your gluteal muscles, quadriceps and hamstrings. Strength in these muscles has been shown to reduce the risk of lower limb injuries. When used in rehab programs this movement can be progressed from a sit-to-stand at a bench to more complex movements that replicate workplace activities.

16.01.2022 Time to fill your prescription!

11.01.2022 #GETONBORD Our student practitioners are providing AFL players with real-time feedback on their nordbord performance at the moment. Why? The nordbord improves both eccentric strength and muscle length in our hamstrings. This means it allows for greater stride length and a longer muscle that can generate greater power. Pretty cool, hey? For up to date research on all things hamstrings make sure to get in touch (details above ). Or even better, come in and try it the #nordbord for yourself. Exercise prescription is only an email away

10.01.2022 STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING FOR AFL An effective strength and conditioning can assist in preventing injury, and can enhance strength, power and local muscular endurance. Here we have the @fitzroyfootygirls working on some lower body strength

10.01.2022 MEET A STUDENT PRACTITIONER Matt Kundevski (Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology)... Why do you want to be an EP? To help people build a healthy relationship and attitude towards functional movement patterns that can be transferred to everyday life. What do you want to do post-uni? I want to work in a hospital-based setting to gain experience across a wide range of pathologies. Ultimately I want to help people regain optimal function to move them towards independence. Whats your favourite exercise? Nordic hamstring curl. It requires minimal equipment and evidence demonstrates it can lower the risk of hamstring injuries for sport-based settings. Because it loads the hamstrings in their lengthened position its directly transferable to activities such as walking, running or kicking.

02.01.2022 OBESITY AND RESISTANCE EXERCISE Obesity occurs when excess kJ or calories are stored in the body as fat following long-term caloric excess. Exercising regularly and eating a healthy diet are ways to combat obesity . Weight-training or resistance training can provide overall health benefits including raising muscle:fat ratio which increases the amount of calories you burn at rest. Additionally, resistance resistance training can reduce the risk of Type 2 Diabetes and dyslipidaemia - both of which are associated with heart disease
